Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Thanks. I keep hearing that, seems like there is a joke hidden somewhere in that statement? Hopefully I have at least 25 years years before that happens. I'll swap out the power steering pump. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I'll pull the hydroboost I just installed and swap it out too...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

I did not retain or measure the old plunger rod. I also cannot recall what the stamping number was on the old rod (I’m a new dad, I’m happy to make it through each day at this point). I want to say it was the same as the new one but am not 100% sure. However, I did confirm that the rod on the...

Dual tank switch kills the engine

For what it’s worth, my truck does not have electric pumps and would slowly die, as a result of being starved of fuel, when switched to the passenger tank. The issue ended up being a shorted out diverted valve. Your issue seems to be different though.

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Rusty nail, It is my understanding that the rear axles need to be pulled in order to remove the rear drums(14 bolt FF) For this reason, when I take things apart it will be to replace everything. My rear brakes have not been hanging, making odd noises and my braking performance is more than...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Pedal did not stick prior to replacing hydroboost unit. Just confirmed that the brake pedal return spring is in place. I guess I was able to replace the hydroboost without removing it, which would explain why I didn't recall seeing it. Perhaps a useful piece of information is that the pedal...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Also, the pedal "sticks" regardless of how far/hard I push on the pedal. It will stay depressed with even the slightest amount of pressure

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Front brakes are not overly worn. Rear brakes could be-I've never pulled the drums because the brakes had always worked and never made any strange noises of hung up. Due to the need to pull the axles, I figure I'll just changes the drums, wheel cylinders, bearings, shoes and hardware when I do...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Thanks for responding. I'll probably go ahead and change out the PS pump then and see what happens.

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

My power steering pump seems to groan and the belt squeals occasionally. Is it possible that my power steering pump is on the way out and not producing enough pressure to reset the pedal? I may go ahead and replace the pump since I am not sure how old/how many hours the unit is/has on it. If...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Hello, I recently changed out a leaking hydroboost unit in my 84 K30. After doing so, I noticed that the brakes seemed to remain engaged after releasing the pedal. After driving the truck a while, I discovered that the brake pedal is not fully returning to the "up" position after being...

    Steering shaft...leak?

Finally got around to changing out the hydroboost unit today with a remanufactured (NAPA) one Drained as much as the old fluid out of the system beforehand. I also replaced both power steering pressure hoses with new AC Delco ones. Filled with AC Delco 10-5073 PS fluid. Took the truck...

    Steering shaft...leak?

Changed the seal and all was good until I bled the system with the engine running. I now have a large puddle under my driver's side frame rail again. It is definitely the coming from the weep hole on the hydroboost unit. I matched the old seal up to the new one prior to installing it and...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Up and running again. The ignition coil was bad. Thankfully it is under warranty. Ran it for 30 minutes in the driveway the put it back in the garage until spring. Plan to start it every weekend until then. Thanks to everyone, especially @Ricko1966, for all of your assistance. -Eric

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Fuel line is pinched off. Spark seems more regular with the new ICM but still weak. Going to change the ignition coil tomorrow to see if that does anything. If not, I’ll put the “old” one back in. All these parts are ACDelco. Not that that means anything since they’re now made in Mexico and...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

I have 12v at the cap. Rotor and cap are new this year. I did not see any cracks in the cap and the contacts appeared clean. Picture of rotor is attached. Changed the ICM but still not starting. Pickup coil will be here tomorrow. I REALLY don't want to pull the distributor but if that is...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Tested spark using the method you prescribed on cylinder 2 since I have factory AC which makes the #1 plug harder to get to. As you know, I am no expert but the spark seemed weak and irregular. Its difficult to make out, orange in color and only fired 11 times in 20 seconds. During that 20...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

I drove this truck 2500 miles between March 2020 and November 2020. I last started the truck in early December. I let it run in my driveway until it got up to temp (approximately 20 minutes) at that time. Fresh 92 octane without ethanol from a can. Fuel line is pinched off with hose pinch...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Gapped and changed spark plugs...still just cranking. I went ahead and checked all of my fuses and changed the ones that I had not already changed since buying the truck. Still nothing. Ordered a new ignition control module, it will be here tomorrow. After that, idk what else to try. Eric

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Bought new plugs. Will gap and change them tonight. Have to wait until tomorrow to try it again-baby is sleeping. Should I do everything else the same, fuel line pinched off, choke open, tablespoon of fuel down each primary, 1/2 throttle and crank for 20 seconds? Thanks @Ricko1966.

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

I confirmed that I have spark to the #1 cylinder via an in-line spark tester. I suppose this method wouldn’t rule out a bad plug(s)though? To clarify, I cranked it for 20 seconds & waited a minute before cranking again for 20 seconds. I followed this sequence 5-7 times. So several minutes of...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Still just cranking; not even trying to turn over. Probably did 5-7 twenty second volleys. Prior to trying it again, I: -confirmed the distributor hold down bolt was tight -removed all 8 plugs and cleaned them again (some were wet but better than last time) -confirmed plug wires were in...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Sorry for the delay, I have been working everyday since my last post. Definitely will have some time tomorrow to work on the truck. I’ll recheck the plugs (and clean if necessary) beforehand. Dumb question but should I work the throttle linkage to open the primary throttle blades when adding...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Picked up some canned 92 ethanol free fuel today. Then life got in the way. Hoping to try what you, Ricko1966, suggested tomorrow. When I get around to it, hopefully tomorrow, should I work the throttle linkage to open the primary throttle blades when adding fuel or add it with the throttle...

    Edelbrock 1406 Fuel leak

Fuel that I’ve been putting down the primaries is from a plastic tank that I filled about a month ago. It also has Stabil in it. I’ll pick up a can of ethanol free fuel from Ace tomorrow to rule the out. The fuel line is clamped as well as I can with the tools I have on hand. I’ll pick up a pair...
