Hood release cable
The wire in the housing is an inch shorter than my original. The latch works smoothly- my original cable housing is splitting open (due to being 44 years old) I’ve tried to lube the old cable and put it back in. I really don’t want to convert it to an outside latch.- Scotty D

Hood release cable
I am having trouble finding the correct hood release cable for my ‘79 C10 I got a Dorman 912-020 and it is 1” shorter than my original, and won’t come close to fitting. Dorman swears it is the correct cable, anyone ran into this? I bought this truck new in 79 and it was getting hard to pull.- Scotty D

Help! Horn not working.
I can’t get my horn to work- with the horn button on the steering wheel. If I take a screwdriver and jump from the horn contact in the column to the steering shaft, it works - so there is something wrong in the steering wheel itself. Anybody else have that happen?- Scotty D

Exhaust smoke on startup
Most likely the valve seals are the culprit. It could come out of it the more you run it. If the smoke goes away after it starts is a good sign- Scotty D

How far to go?
I bought mine brand new in ‘79, I took it away from my kids in 2003 when the cab mounts collapsed. It sat behind my barn until last year when I decided to save it rather than scrap it. I got it running, ordered floor pans and cab mounts, rockers and corners. That’s when I took a good look at... -

Fan shroud clips
Where can I find the fan shroud clips that fasten the shroud to bottom of the core support? I’m not finding them at any of the parts houses, and the dealer tells me my ‘79 C10 is too old. Any ideas? Or start wandering the pic-a-part yards?- Scotty D

Has anyone done the $50 Rustoleum Paint Job on their Square???
A few years ago I got a deal on an F250 Superduty but it didn’t come with a bed, built a flatbed for it, and painted the bed with gloss black Rustoleum enamel, cut it 3:1 with reducer and added hardener from Rural King. Cab replacement Experiences?
Did this on a ‘91 F150 Ford a few years ago, replaced it with a year newer cab. I purchased the entire truck, so I got a title with it so the serial number wasn’t an issue. Replacing rubber brake lines, i'm about to lose it
I tried everything on mine, soak, heat, soak, vice grips, I ended up replacing the lines, and the proportioning valve- (that was worse) it’s not that expensive and you have piece of mind, not to mention how much trouble you’re going to have getting those old lines to reseal if you do get them...- Scotty D

U-joint replacement recomendations
Those numbers are that driveline companies go by. The numbers have to do with the style and size of cap, width of the yoke. Usually can’t go wrong with a name brand (spicer, Dana, Lipe, etc.) if you get one with a grease fitting, just be sure to index it so the torque of the driveshaft is...- Scotty D

Ok, 2 wheel drive small block, turbo 350 guys, I’m putting headers on my c10. My’79 once had a y-pipe and a catalytic converter, the transmission crossmember interferes with the driver side header. Are you using an aftermarket crossmember? Not sure what to do about this.- Scotty D

Maybe try a new bolt? Possibly a couple threads longer to get some fresh threads? Someone may have just grabbed what filled the hole and snugged it to ‘oh shit’ and left it for the next guy.- Scotty D

What have you done to your square lately??
I’d check the u-joints, they can make you crazy. Mine made the “airplane “ sound, and then change pitch when you back out the pedal, squeak at low speeds. Got very hot to the touch.
