replacement sheet metal
Where are you all finding your replacement body panels? What kind of prices are doors, fenders, ect... running? The local body supply house is now quoting me $169 for aftermarket doors and $120 for fenders. Seems kind of high when last I bought were $89 and $74 few years ago -
6.2 mpg
I had a 86 with 31" tires, 3:42 gears and a 4 speed that got 22-24mpg depending on how I drove it. I have a M1028 6.2 with 400 turbo and the 4:56 gears that does 16mpg just for some comparision- towjoe

Opinions: Newer bed on older truck...
I think it would be about as easy to switch out the fuel tanks and use the newer tank that goes with the bed and has correct fill. they should all interchange -

Opinions: Newer bed on older truck...
There is one important thing to remember if you swap the beds. Is yours a single tank or dual tank? is the bed your buying single or dual tank? if both are single the fill will be on the wrong side. factory single tanks were passenger fill on 80 back and drivers fill 81 up. May have to relocate tank -

Death wobble
my old V3500 wrecker is starting to get the death wobble when I slow down and stop. I know front axle joints are in need of replaced soon, could they be problem? I got a dana 60 dually front for $300, a 91 sububan complete core support with a good grile for $75, and a 4 speed with 205 for $150 other day all pulled for me. does that count as to a score at a pick a part yard? -

My closest pick a part yard is 50 miles away. Of course I haul in there 3-4 loads a week. Don't forget to bring a trailer so if you buy to much you can haul it home or the truck you catch outside the gate before they haul it in lol -

Factory Tach...
I installed a similar digital clock in a 78 chevy I had years ago. I took it out of a 86 or 87 tempo dash. Dremel tool to cut the dash out about the same spot and looked factory for the truck. You should be able to hear the pumps run. I know on my fuel injected trucks I can. You check for power through relay? Jims86 hopefully will stop in after awhile. He's real sharp on the fuel injected trucks- towjoe

1978-1979 gauge question
I've seen a few with 140 km speedometer in them. Kinda different for being down in Indiana. Anyone remember what year they started the unleaded fuel only on fuel gage? I remember a friend getting in trouble at a gas station filling his 76 up with leaded fuel and the attendant going off on him...- towjoe

swapping out a th400 to a 700r4
Steering colum is the same on all automatic trucks. Just the tin indicator on dash is different. What all do you use the truck for the big question. If you do a lot of heavy hauling the 700 may not hold up. Also what ratio rear axle do you have? For strength and durability may be best have your...- towjoe

Cab swap?
I had a salvage yard and the state cited me for having a frame that was cut in half with no title to it. they pointed out the vin # is stamped in the frame about where the drives floorboard is. cost me a $500 fine and about cost me my scrap licence. I'm glad I'm just a hobby truck collector now.
