Need help with a vibration issue.

The output shaft will be loose with the slip yoke out. It fits in the slip yoke which then fits in a bearing in the tail of the transmission. In other words, no slip yoke no bearing. With the yoke in place there will be up and down play but not excessive. You have to firmly shake it up and down...

    85 c10 shocks

I have the stock shocks....yes they are old but only have 24000 miles on them. They seem soft but pass the old bounce test. Did the 85 Siverados have a very soft ride or do I need to look at new shocks? My only other comparison is an F250 or a Sport Trac and they are riding on new shocks and are...

    Bouncy speedometer

Mine is a 85 bone stock with the 305 700r4 and was noisy and bouncy like yours. I backed the cable off where it connects to the speedometer as much as I could and all the noise and bounce disappeared. It's almost as though it was pressing too tight on the back of the speedo.

    Engine Fire - 87 Chevy R30

I roasted one years ago. A 66 Pontiac. I bought a harness back then and it was worth it. This engine is much more complicated. I'd buy a harness and do it right.

    Soldering equipment....one better than another?

I've got a Weller soldering gun from the 50s my dad had. Works well, had to replace the cord once. They have a high and low for most jobs and I have a couple of irons like yours with much smaller tips for fine work. The guns are great but they do eat tips so keep a spare. I have used both rosin...

    Electrical Help

Don't leave the battery hooked up until you find the problem. Sounds like you have a short in a switch or the wiring or possibly wired wrong and have by passed fuses. You didn't mention blowing any fuses. Are they in and the right size? They should have blown before you melted wiring. Also, you...

    RESOLVED - Rear Speaker Plugs/Pigtails

I know its your thread, but what are you using for speakers and where are you getting them? I'd like to put better ones than factory in my '85 but I have read there is a clearance problem with a bigger magnet.

    Noise Coming From TC/Flexplate

I don't know how well you can see it, but it sure sounds like a cracked flex plate from what you have described. It will most likely crack where it bolts to the crank.

Can't get idle down AFTER re-activating choke:

With the idle screw completely backed off, I'd shine a light down the carb and see if the butterflies are completely closed when the choke is off. If this started when you hooked the choke back up, its bound to not be pulling completely off when warm and one of the fast idle steps is catching it.

    Interior paint

Local independent auto parts store had SEM here in Birmingham. Good paint, covered well, stayed put for years so far. Follow directions and clean the vinyl well first. If you can't find it, Amazon has SEM but might be harder to match colors on line. bedwards

    Speedo Hairspring

You will prob need to get a replacement speedo from a junk yard. I have worked on older speedos and if you accidentally mess the spring up it is not repairable. There are repair shops for antique and vintage speedos if you google them, they might fix yours. bedwards

Hi guys, new to Chevy trucks new to forum. Just bought an 85 Silverado with 305. Very low mileage but has been sitting for years. Owner says cranked and drove at least once a month. Driving home seemed like it wouldn't take smooth acceleration. It either cruised ok or you had to floor it to...
