    Greasing column shift indicator

That piece that acts like a fairlead is evidently broken/missing on mine.. This brings up a question, when I switch out the tranny to a 700r4 and I replace the existing column with one that has OD, will I still be able to use the same bezel? Or does it require a bezel with a wider opening? The...

Tune up specs for the frankenstein truck...

No point at all in trying to pin this truck to any one year... No smog, 327, TH350, Holley 4bbl, brand new skip white HEI distributor, 4200' elevation.. it's running, but a little rough.. When I open the throttle it hesitates and I can hear a very slight backfire (through the intake)...

In the home stretch.. Then disaster strikes...

YESSSSS!!!!! Hallelujah! (Insert Heavenly Choir Here) :gm: Got it out! Using my trusty rubber gripped Klien brass tubing extractor... Tapped it in there with a pair of side cutters and then carefully put some force to turn it, and then.... and then... and then... IT BROKE FREE...

In the home stretch.. Then disaster strikes...

I know I have a set of small screw extractors somewhere.. I'm picturing the vinyl package in my head right now, but can't think of where they are.. Looked everywhere I would expect them to be, but no luck.. Found a tap for 1/8" pipe, which is what this is, but drilling out the brass would...

In the home stretch.. Then disaster strikes...

Put the enine at TDC compression stroke.. Pulled the wires and distributor cap.. Marked where everything is pointing... Yanked the distributor... Noted where rotor is pointing after the pull.. Pulled the coil and mount... Excellent, ready to put new HEI in... Went to change out oil pressure...

    Greasing column shift indicator

As I am setting up this new digital gauge set, I am cleaning up all the parts before I reinstall them... The shift indicator mechanism is kinda cruddy, so I'd like to soak it in some degreaser and then reinstall it, nice and shiny like new... But it obviously has some sort of grease on it...

    Intellitronix digital dash

So, got my digital gauge set last night, and have been digging in.. if you get one of these, be prepared to do some modifications.. Both to your cluster backing plate, and to their stuff... You're gonna need a dremel tool with a abrasive cutting disc, some small allen wrenches, some...

I live in Commiefornya... Guvna Brown was upset that some people were cheating and not putting the right converters for the vehicle in when they needed replacing (read: some smog mechanics lobby or environmental lobby contributed to his campaign), so he created a new regulation a few years ago...

VIN number discrepency on my frankenstein c10

Thanks for that! Was cleaning the truck, and the rivets on that ID tag were not really doing anything, someone had stuck it on with silicone.. When I ran the sponge across it, the thing practically came off... It is whatever it is... Does anyone know who the moderator is in this...

Anyone know how to get to this switch?

It was in the rec room, sitting on the bar, right out in the open... I found it later when I went to pour myself a beer after I was all through for the day..... Was looking in the parts boxes on the floor.. lol I installed it, and the male connector on the wire that I used to replace the...

    Looking for speaker recommendations

I'm really trying to do something where the driver and the passenger each have a pair of speakers on either side of the head... Trying to stay away from kick panels, door bottoms, etc, where half the sound is absorbed by legs clothing, carpeting, seats, etc... Probably have to make...

I just thought of another reason why a surge tank is a great idea.. With in-tank EFI pumps, you have to keep them submerged in gasoline or they will overheat and fail, requiring replacement.. They are NOT cheap... This happened to me twice on my 2001 Chevy express G1500 (currently sitting up...

Any way to speed up my wipers?

I've heard good things about THESE.. Just put it in line with the power lead to the wiper motor... Speeds up the whole truck if you do it right at the battery... Hey, thanks for the tip about rain X washer fluid guys.. Will 'definitely' check that out! :rockit:

Anyone know how to get to this switch?

I bought a switch from NAPA a couple weeks ago as I was about 80% sure the switch was bad... If I can only find where I put it.. Things are getting kinda spread out by now... I'm sure it will immediately show up as soon as I put everything up, wash my hands, etc.. lol

Anyone know how to get to this switch?

Okay, it just screws out... I was afraid to do that, thinking it was a nut on the switch put in from the back, I feared it would just fall into the cab innards never to be seen again... or once loosened never being able to be tightened again without being able to hold the back while doing so...

Anyone know how to get to this switch?

Thought maybe there would be access once the kick panel was removed.. Not so! It's solid sheet metal there.. Looked in the jamb.. Crawled underneath the truck to see if there was any access from underneath... Nope.. Is there some trick I'm missing, or are we expected to fish it through...

    Looking for speaker recommendations

Looking for some fairly cheap but decent sounding surface mount speakers... I like the concept of the driver and the passenger having a pair of speakers for each. mounted on the ceiling on either side of the head, but the packages for that are ridiculously expensive... I don't like the...

    How To Refurbish Your Dashpad

I was thinking maybe 'gorilla glue' instead of the epoxy? You'd have to sand it down again though... It expands, but not near as much as the foam gap filler..

    Testing sending units

Well, I finished prewiring under the truck for when I install the selector valve and second tank.. I hooked up the fuel gauge to the existing tank and then when in the cab and measured the wire to ground and it said 60 ohms.. I then put 5 gallons more gas and measured 90 ohns.. So I guess...

The electronic stuff is more efficient, starts easier, economical, etc... But it's electronic stuff.. There is no hillbilly hack when it fails.. So, yes, I plan to carry the hillbilly hack with me... within reason.. We're talking a small box of stuff here... Having such an attitude has...

    fitech install om 77 c10

But that doesn't help me much 25 miles in on a remote dirt road when the pump or EFI quits and I need to slap on the old carb and that cheap electric fuel pump to get me home.. Dropping the tank is kinda beyond a roadside fix...

What do you mean by floats? In the surge tank? I think I'm following you.. Just using a return line and letting the can completely fill up and then run back into the supply tank as opposed to using a float in the can to shut off the input flow from the low pressure pump? I think this answers...
