    It is a good idea to do the test. I was assuming the heads were off due to the pictures. If the heads are not off then the leak down would be one of the test he could run.

    The white shit is contamination in the combustion process. The pattern on the block is the reason for suspecting a problem. It should have the same gasket pattern as the other cylinders do.

    You can check the block surface and heads if you have a certified straight edge and feeler gauges.     I wanted to use wheels like that but can not find them in 17" for a reasonable amount. The truck looks nice, consider keeping it. Everyone I know that sells their square ends up regretting it.

    Fuel tank help

    Yeah smurph, the vent goes to the canister. The other lines route through the switching valve. The return only going to one side will not prevent it from working, however, it can cause problems if the right side happens to be full and is getting the return from the left.
