are quadrajet baseplates the same flavor?

basically wondering if rochester calibrated their baseplates like they do bodies on the qjets. i went to swap idle mixture screws from a qjet from 72 model carb to my 84 model carb and the thread size and pitch is very different. wanted to swap due to the fact that my 84 model has the odd head...

Thick black/red tint sticky stuff on fuel line

Lol I've had pretty good luck with it as far as not leaking. It is oozing that out of each clamp point. And the hose is rated for ethanol. Not sure the quality it was from o'reilly's. Their individual packaged chunks of 2 foot hose

Thick black/red tint sticky stuff on fuel line

As the title says I've got this blackish with a red tint substance on the inlet and outlet of my fuel filter. It's super sticky and doesn't smell like anything. It's thicker and stickier than anything I've seen in a tank. I don't have any sediment in my fuel filter but the fuel is somewhat...

    Idling and starting issue

The carb is a rochester quadrajet, awesome carb. Variable cfm up to 800cfm. Uses what the engine needs with the air flaps above the secondary throttle blades. The idle mixture screws are on the front of the baseplate on each side. The driver side one is right under your small vacuum line coming...

    Idling and starting issue

I'd recommend you get a vacuum gauge and do your fine tuning. For now you can just bump up your idle speed slightly to get to where you want it. Basically on the mixture screws I start by bottoming the mixtures screws out and then backing them off 2.5 turns. Start the engine and get it to...

    Idling and starting issue

The arrow is pointing to around the area where that pcv hose should hook up, as I'm sure you know. Make sure that is capped since there isn't anything running to it

    Idling and starting issue

If you left the pcv port or hose open that is a major vacuum leak

    Idling and starting issue

Oh sorry I read that wrong, you replaced it with a breather. I personally recommend you put the pcv back in. And make sure you capped the port or plugged the hose that went to the old pcv

    Idling and starting issue

Just make sure the pcv hose isn't dry rotted or anything and that pcv, although new, works like it should. Also make sure the grommet that the pcv goes in is still sealing as it should. If you're concerned about that just cap off that port and run it. If it runs fine that's your issue, if not...

    Idling and starting issue

Sounds like you may have developed a vacuum leak. Big enough to need idle mixture screws adjusted. It's firing off the accelerator pump shot and once that runs out it leans out so bad that it dies. If your timing is right start by turning the idle mixture screws out a half turn then see how it...

    1991 cfi 454 runs at 210,

210 may be just a little spicy, not too hot by any means but I'd think you could be more around 200° especially with an electric fan. I'm not aware of factory electric fans on a truck setup so it's probably aftermarket and SHOULD come on mostly by temp. I think some harnesses may turn them in...

    comp 12-671-4 nostalgia?

Just an update.. probably notgnot with that cam, they want a 2500 stall. Looking at probably just a summit 1103 cam

    comp 12-671-4 nostalgia?

Anyone running this cam in their trucks? Have a chance to pick up a whole kit (cam, lifters, springs, timing chain set) for little to nothing. Would be going in a 350 with stock 487x heads. Flat top pistons. I maybe work the heads a bit but nothing major. Duration @ .050 is 229 on the intake...

El Camino headers on a C10?

I know it's easier to fit car headers on trucks but just seeing if anyone has taken long tubes meant for an el Camino (mid 70's) and put them on their square? Can get a brand new set from a buddy for a case of beer. Might just get them and see anyway. My welder and I do get along so it shouldn't...

84 C10 charcoal canister line question

Nothing is currently running off of manifold vacuum other than the trans metal line, pcv (which still rattles) and brake booster, all of which I've blocked off to test at one point but are hooked back up now. When it's idling fine it's pulling 18hg of vacuum. When I'm done driving it and put it...

84 C10 charcoal canister line question

Ya this carb came from a divorced choke setup. I should just cut the mixture screw caps out of the original carb and be done with it.

84 C10 charcoal canister line question

Seeing as I have some qjet knowledge in this thread I may as well ask my other question. Am I able to easily adapt the electric choke from my original carb to this carb? Beings the choke pull off is on the primary side rather than the secondary side like the original 84 carb is set up? I...

84 C10 charcoal canister line question

I wonder if having this hose open is causing a vacuum leak? When I bought this pickup it would not idle. Would hold any rpm above 1000 fine but nothing less. The spaghetti mess of vacuum lines were rotted so I removed everything that didn't have to do with essential engine function. That line...

84 C10 charcoal canister line question

Sorry I should have added more. I do have the small ported line hooked up to ported, also have the bigger hose Tee'd to the pcv valve. But my original carb had a larger port on the front, top portion of the carb that came out at a 45° I assume went to the fuel bowl. This carb off the 72 350...

84 C10 charcoal canister line question

Replaced the current qjet with a good older rebuilt one I had due to not having to hack up the baseplate to get to the idle mixture screws. Older one does not have a front port coming off the fuel bowl. I'm guessing the older pickups had that line running to the air cleaner? If they even had...

    Gas tank cleaning

What we did with an old Studebaker pickup tank was jack up the back of an old tractor, strap the tank filled with nuts, bolts and what I think was acetone to one of the wheels and put the tractor in gear. Spun the tank at a slow speed and it did an awesome job of cleaning that tank out!

    gm big block v6?

We built a 305v6 for a 63 GMC pickup. Complete restoration. Awesome engine, we had an adapter plate made to fit a tbi system on in. Custom dual exhaust sounded really good. Very interesting with the spark plugs poking up under the intake manifold. Made for a cool spider like plug wire routing.
