Edelbrock carbs on a 350 sm blk

Love Edelbrock carbs on SBCs! Simple enough that even an idiot like me can use one reliably! Granted, my current 350 has a Q-jet on it, but I'm also kind of partial to those.

need some help with door rod clip

That's no joke, I had to do that a couple weeks ago while I was working on my door locks. It's dang heard to see in there, for sure, but the other door helped. Thank God I didn't take them both apart at the same time. Do these clips from the 1978 manual help at all?

Engine Block Heater for SBC 350

Back in high school, when I drove my 64 Chevelle every day, I put a Massey-Ferguson diesel tractor battery in it. I don't remember how many CCAs that thing had, but it was made to crank a cold diesel equipment engine to life in the dead of winter, and it would spin that poor 283 like it was a...

Engine Block Heater for SBC 350

As far as I know, the newer style pads are totally magnetic, high temp silicone. Clean off a spot on your oil pan and stick it, then run your cord and leave it alone, but I have not tried one of those. I the one I had was many years ago was the type pictured below, by Handi-Heat. It worked well...

I just looked those up - very cool! Just very pricy, too. Anyone have any experience with them?

Engine Block Heater for SBC 350

I live in the Yakima area, and have tried a few on my SBCs over the years. The ones that worked the best was the one that tied into one of my heater hoses and circulated warm water through the system, BUT it didn't last, rusted out really fast, and got rust in my radiator. I've also tried the...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Based on all of your really useful info, opinions, and experience (thanks, that's what I wanted), here's where I've landed for now. My original plan was to do nothing for at least 6 months, and I'm staying with that. I definitely like it the way it is, so driving it with 4:56s isn't breaking my...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Hell ya! I'd like to get up there during daylight hours, which makes it tough during the week, and I was sick last weekend. Maybe this weekend? I feel a little odd just popping in without setting a time first though.

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

I'm right there with you, but mine is 4wd, obviously. Mine is a daily, and primarily used for short distance road driving with small or no loads, for which the current setup is not really a problem. It's also excellent for the occasional off road use. However, I do sometimes (1-3x per year) need...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Thanks! I didn't know 700R4 had O/D too. Never had either 4L80E or 700 before. Every SBC I've ever driven until now had a manual behind it...

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

Thanks all for the comments, much appreciated! @DoubleDingo - The overdrive in the 4L80E would be nice, but the folks at Auburn gears told me that a 700R4 would actually bring the RPMs down even further (about 400 RPMs lower than the 4L80 @ 60 MPH) and would be an easier/more direct swap (so...

So tell me more about the tranny swap options - 4L80E or 700R4? Is that less work/cost than swapping gears and carriers?

    Changing gear ratios: opinions/suggestions wanted!!

My 78 K20 4x4 has factory 4:56 gears in it and a TH400 transmission. These are great when off-road or pulling something, but poor on the highway. I grew up with a 75 half ton 4x4 with 3:73 gears and a 4 speed manual, which was very versatile for both off-road and highway, but that was partly due...

'78 K20 wiper and headlight switch selection help needed!

Yep, the spare bezel that I have is definitely a 73-74, and I think the one in the truck (earlier photo) is too, as it looks like someone cut off the conical base around the headlight switch so it would work with the 78 style switch. I would tend to agree. It seems likely that someone would...

'78 K20 wiper and headlight switch selection help needed!

I'm pretty sure one of the previous owners of my truck installed the wrong gauge bezel from an earlier truck, because they modified both holes in the bezel for the wiper switch and the headlight switch. I can get a new bezel at some point, but I need to figure out if I have the correct switches...

    Bare Hands

I don't mind a little grease, dirt, oil, whatever, BUT I wear gloves a lot because I'm a huge clumsy oaf and I'm always cutting myself or skinning my knuckles on something when I don't wear them. I've been working on my truck a lot lately, sometimes without gloves, and I can count six injuries...
