    Running Rich?

Slow progress: I tried timing the engine, and I could not see the timing mark at all. Tried again today and never saw a timing mark - I started to suspect that (1) I had no idea what the timing mark looked like (I didn't - I expected a notch) or (2) there was no timing mark. Spent a lot of...

What have you done to your square lately??

A while ago, I crossed some wires when reconnecting cables to the battery (starter cable is black with red ends - lots of nice sparks hooking that up wrong). Messed up the alternator and I could have sworn that I heard an electrical "snap" from it. Sent it to Mechman for repair, which they did...

Post a pic of your first car or restoration!

First car was a 53 Mercury with a flat head V8 and 3 on the tree. Great car - got me across the country in the winter but then threw a rod on the way to work. Next was ac 54 country squire wagon. I bought someone else's project but was too young and distracted to finish it. I miss this one the...

I'm thinking you got hit worse by the same storm we got - any luck on the buckle?

    Metal Seat Belt Buckle

@AuroraGirl: Here's exactly what I need, don't care about the webbing color: If you have one of these in whatever color, DM me and we can work out the details The buckle in your picture of the 80 Silverado won't work for me. The plastic buckle is too small

Thanks for the help identifying exactly what I need, but that circles me back: Does anyone have one for sale?

Recommendations For Original/After Market Parts Companies

I can't really tell you which place is better, but I will tell you to order from one place and not mix it up. I got a dash pad from one place and then realized I needed the trim and got that from somewhere else and a couple of stray pieces from a third place. All nice quality, but nothing...

What have you done to your square lately??

Technically this was yesterday and today: Put the power steering spacers on the correct side of the frame rail so that I could get the fender liner in and then put the splash shields on. Only took two trips to the hardware store and one trip to Advance Auto. I also steam cleaned my seat belts...

    Metal Seat Belt Buckle

@AuroraGirl: Sorry - I knew a picture would be better but didn't take one first I need the the entire female side - metal buckle with the webbing, preferably in brown. So little of the webbing will show through that the color won't matter much. @FireTruck1984: I saw similar vendors selling...

    Metal Seat Belt Buckle

I need one seat belt buckle for an '84 K10. Brown is preferable, but not much of this will show so it doesn't really matter what color it is. I have good belts but the button on this buckle feels like the spring is gone. FWIW, the plastic covered buckles are too narrow to accept the metal...

Can't Get Driver's Inner Fender Back In

Found the problem: put the spacers for the power steering pump on the wrong side when I changed the box. I'll swap them around tomorrow if the weather is good

    Running Rich?

Last tank was down to 7.6 again but there was a lot of local driving and a breakdown so that might have had an affect. Breakdown was from a loose power feed into the distributor which I have fixed along with replacing the cap and rotor When I re-did the plug wires, I started from scratch...

    Frustrated 87 GMC owner!

Electrical gremlins are tough. I have a carb'ed 350 with HEI ignition and it has cut out on my twice with a sudden stumble and die like it ran out of fuel quickly. Nice strong crank but no spark. Turns out it was the battery connector to the distributor that was very loose - it fell off when...

    Eastwood Roll-On Primer

Never used it, but I did look into rolling on rustoleum for another project. You can get it to look OK but not great. I think the roll on products are really for people without access to a good compressor because the work involved seems to be greater than a spray job. FYI - hunt around...

    Running Rich?

Connecting the torque converter lock up vacuum switch and less idling in the driveway brought mileage up to 9.3 mpg. This weekend I will change the plugs and try to adjust the timing (assuming I can get to the distributor lockdown nut)

Can't Get Driver's Inner Fender Back In

Thanks All! Going to attack this again this weekend and see what I can do. So does it go straight up, or should I start with the front or rear?

    Running Rich?

Thanks @SirRobyn0 . I have not progressed much except to connect the torque converter lock up vacuum switch but I haven't driven enough to see if this helps. My first measured MPG was 7.6, but that was with a lot of idling and short shake down trips around the block. Right now, since it...

Can't Get Driver's Inner Fender Back In

1984 K10 stock height. I got the passenger side in with a little finesse, but the driver's side has me stumped. I tried with and without the wheel on (but less with the wheel removed - I had had it by then). It seems to hang up on the steering gear box (replaced while the inner fender was...

HOW CAN I MAKE IT GO FASTER?

Might sound stupid, but make sure the gas pedal can go all the way to the floor. No bunched up carpet etc. And is the accelerator cable long enough?

    Little tips and tricks

I've kept a jar of copper antisieze in my toolbox ever since I started working on airhead BMW's. Pretty much every fastener going in gets a dab.

    700R4 Vacuum Switch

I have a 1984 K10 with a crate 350 and 700R4. I believe the truck originally had a 305. Most of the emissions and vacuum lines have been clipped or removed. I have the vacuum switch on the firewall with two wires running to the transmission. I'm assuming that this is the vacuum switch which...

    Running Rich?

I think my truck is running rich. I'm just starting to track down this problem, so I don't have too many hard facts yet (or - I'm starting to think about fixing this now). Truck is an 84 K10 with a replacement 350 running a Quadrajet style carb. What I know: 1) Starts like a champ - quick...
