The time has come for some color! I had ordered a DIY roll-on bed liner for the interior from Monstaliner and got the bright orange tint called "Road Rash". I took a color sample to my guys at FinishMasters in Stafford (Thanks Mark and John!) and they mixed me some custom PPG single stage...

Lots of wet sanding been happening on the Wagon this past week. Its alot of real estate to tackle alone. Been all over the beast several times, including each separate door. I have NO fingerprints left. Also got back the front bench from my guys at CoachCraft Upholstery. Then I sanded the roll...

Finally about a week ago the body work starts! I had a sanding party at my garage and invited my friends over for food and beer! We got a TON of work done and its getting close to primer now. Found a few more places I need to weld up to help her become somewhat water tight. Check out my roll...

Have you ever seen such a cheezy aux cooling fan? If you look closely its a factory installed unit! I've never seen one on a square body. Have you?

LR Qtr panel patches. I used a flanging tool to mate the patches to the original sheet metal. Note, don't go as high as I did on the wheel well patch. I didn't leave myself a lot of area to flange.

For some reason the driver side of the wagon was much rustier than the passenger side. After fixing the rear door I tackled the LR quarter. Rust had bubbled out almost the entire length of the upper wheel well, So we decided to put a patch there. Also the area behind the wheel well was rusted...

The LR door was rusted pretty bad. I looked for a used one, but all I found were bad too. I didn't want to spend $250 on a new shell, so I bought patches for a full size door, cut them down and rebuilt the bottom of the door. I replaced the inner door shell first and used the outer skin as a my...

Past few months we've been busy trying to finish up the metal work. Patches on both quarter panels, rockers, welding up holes in door jambs, etc.

On the tailgate, it looked really ugly at the gate ends on top when the gate was shut. So I fabricated some "caps" to clean up that area.

Here are shots where we closed up the top of the pillars. We also gutted the doors and tailgate, then welded them shut.

Greeting guys! So sorry for the previous posts that didn't display the pics properly. I've been busy working on the "Wagon" so haven't had much time to update this blog. Here are some of the pics from my previous posts. Had to cut out a few spots on the windshield frame and refinish them. PS I...

Greetings everyone! Long time, no see. Life has been preventing me from working on my convertible over the past 6 months or so. Finally I've made time to work on it. I started by fixing some rust issues in the windshield frame. Had to R&R some metal here.

Hey Bucket, Did you ever get to replace that rear cross member yet? Yes, there is some internal bracing on the C and D pillars, ALOT more on the D. Here are 2 shots for you. If you'd like I'll take some more detailed pics and post them.

Today I finished up the B pillar and the 2 doors that meet there. Still will fill in the rest of the door tops. Then I welded in the pass side of the dash that I cut out so I could get the halo support close to the A pillar. Had to do a lil trimming to make it fit, but looks great I think.

Yesterday I took out the pass vent window to replace the rusted frame that holds the glass. Its both rusted and the stud that it rotates on was broken. While those blasted and painted parts dried I started capping the B pillar and the doors on the pass side. Transfered some paper templates to...

The other day I fabricated some pieces to cap the top of the A pillars. After some cutting and grinding I first tacked them into place. Next I welded them up, followed by some smooth grinding and a fresh coat of primer.

Me too Old77, very anxious to get her on the road. Hey I read your thread on your '87 and I am very interested in your lowering kit. I saw that you dropped 5/5" with the Western Chassis pieces. I went to their website and didn't see that option. Did you have something done special with them?

Today I worked on tying the roof panel to the halo bar. I had planned to drill and dimple this piece but I didnt have anything strong enough to press the dimple die while it was still on the truck. So I punted and decided to wrap the old roof panel around the inner structure and weld it to the...

Yesterday I spent time grinding down some of my ugly welds on the roll cage. I also welded the top of the windshield frame to the front halo bar using 2 pieces of angle iron. After that I got to work on trimming up the A pillar. I wanted to cut it flush with the top of the doors where the vent...

Here are the initial pics with the top off. Obviously I still need to chop the door tops off, finish cutting towards the windshield then capping the body where the roof used to reside. Still a ways to go before shes ready for the road. A few more rust repairs, bed-lining or using lizard skin...

On Sunday we added a few gussets to tie some hoops to the rear body panels. Once done we pulled the wagon out of the garage so that we could attack it from all angles. Using cut off wheels, saws all and a plasma cutter my boys and I started to surgically remove the roof. We made cut lines above...

Yesterday I fabricated and welded in the pass side mounting pad for the rear most hoop. Then I tried to put a fancy bend on the first hoop. It doesn't look too bad. I hope to make the second rear hoop tomorrow and cut this roof off over the holiday weekend/ Happy 4th everyone!
