What have you done to your square lately??

I believe GM recommends changing at 5 year intervals. My 04, with around 55k had an overheating issue hauling my travel trailer so I drained and refilled. I also did some other maintenance like cleaning the cooling stack, it definitely runs cooler after the needed maintenance.

How would you make this truck less ugly??

It’s a Minnesota truck that will continue to see salt and it looks pretty good, actually. I’d fix the bent bumper and the dent around the turn signal area. Perhaps, you could add some fender flares to hide the rust around the wheels. Hang some used chrome trim on the two tone.

What have you done to your square lately??

Thank you for the words of confidence. Gonna spray it with bed liner so it won’t be shiny since it will continue to be a working truck. I am thinking a modernized older camper could be nice to put on the back. I have some air bags for the rear as well and some camper support mounts that fit...

What have you done to your square lately??

Citristrip the tailgate supports, another round still to go. Surprised to see some factory orange, was that common practice during production? These look galvanized under the seven coats of paint and primer, I assumed these didn’t get painted?

What new tools have you got lately?

Got some better 3/8” impact sockets that came in a fancy case, 6 pt are the best strip prevention.

    Red Oxide Primer

When I was going that direction, I purchased this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S9782W3/ It was my understanding it would make the coating harder and less prone to washing off if you over filled your fuel tank and it spilled on your paint. It was recommended in a paint thread and had...

What have you done to your square lately??

And….the fun hasn’t stopped. I was delirious that I could spray the box inside this weekend, probably in a month or so, this was definitely a Frankenstein working truck which I believe hauled a gorilla that hungered for Swiss cheese. The bed is pretty hammered and a lot more holes to weld. I...

What have you done to your square lately??

I removed the inside bed side spare tire carrier, two bolts were stubborn so I had to get creative with a drill, side cutter, chisel and hammer…..more welding now needed for the mounting holes.

Thank you Todd, I'm trying to figure out what the top of the rocker panel looks like and the inside lip of the fender where it mates up to the door.

What have you done to your square lately??

Citristrip the door and kick panels, arm rests, door straps and trim. Also, the drip rails. I now have to figure out the path forward for refurbishing and what I am gonna buy new, hopefully not much because it’s crazy expensive and I’m a cheap SOB. I’m looking forward to getting some of this...

    Terrible gap

You need to make sure everything is square on the front starting with the core support, from there match up the other panels. Be sure to have body shims to make slight adjustments, take your time and take a break if you get frustrated. Square it up by confirming the corner to corner measurements...

What new tools have you got lately?

The tire bead breaker worked well for the trailer tires, super easy. It’s constructed well and mounted on the stump solidly with 6” x 1/2” screws. What I didn’t like was the tire iron doesn’t mount to the top piece, you leverage it around the top pole in a circular motion which I felt was...
