    Height difference

It sounds to me that something was damaged and replaced on only one side. Figure out what happened(a good body man can tell in 30 seconds) and replace the parts on both sides, unless it is the frame and then you are on your own.

Thoughts on running 10 year old tires?

I would use them around town or in the dirt. I would not run them at highway speeds, especially when it is hot. I have peeled treads from tires and they can do body damage as well as damage power steering. Good luck on getting them balanced or having a flat fixed. The tire stores around me...

I could choke a GM engineer!

Or have some yo yo in accounting think that converting fractional dims over the decimal dims(for parts designed for WWII through the 70s would work). The way the tolerance worked ended up with a 5/8" + or - 1/16" having to be an over/under callout (.6125/.6375). There is a tolerance difference...

You can put those ground lights under the running boards - for a interesting look.

    longbed to a medium bed

Longhorn trucks had wood beds and were 8'-6". They were da bomb, you could build a gas tank to fit in the bed, in front of the camper.

    Security Systems

I put a blinking red LED in the dash that came on when the ignition was off. Even with the doors unlocked, I watched people look in and just walk away. Did I mention I hate alarms, especially when they go off at 5:30 am when the neighbor or my son is leaving for work?

    Groooooooovy

Driving a pickup empty most of the time and the rears hardly get use, it is 90% stopping power on the front - especially with front disc brakes. I have seen many trucks with(what I assume) the original rear brakes at 70-90K mi.

In search of opinions on gear change.

Gas in 70-71 was 19.9(regular) at the cheap station when the gas war was on(2-3 weeks before a 3 day weekend). In 74, gas was mostly under 50.9 at the cheap places, at least here in SoCal

Will a sb Chevy interchange with a Buick?

All you need is a BOP bell housing to mate a manual trans up. The clutch pedal may work and may not, the frame needs the ball on it. But, it can be done - I had a friend who had a Rivera who put a 4 speed in it and he tried to race it(The 5 piece driveshaft is not a racer's friend). I have seen...

    Body mounts......

If you can hit it with a hammer, that will allow the PB Blaster to soak in a little more. Then add more PB and some more hammer time to help break the rust.

    Locating odd sized bolts

If you do modify a bolt(especially one that threads into a different alloy, be sure to use a bolt dressing(never seize or even locktite). The coating on the threads will help keep it from galling.

    Let's entertain something for a moment...big block in a c10 + lifted/lowered hate lol

I think if you check, Chevelles and Camaros had different springs up front for BBs. I can not imagine a Chevette using stock springs with a BB in it(or even a SBC). I remember putting BB springs into Chevelles with SBCs in them for a stiffer suspension(and it worked well).

    TH400 gurus, direction needed.

If this is a local truck, I would take it to the trans shop known for beefing transmissions. These guys all know each other and someone(the older guy at the shop) will be familiar with the work done and maybe who did it.

It has just started, the problems will only get worse. It is time to sell that lemon(to me) cheap and buy a new truck.

Better keep it in the garage, you don't want your friends to see you driving it. Kind of like dating a fat girl.....

    Tuning Advice Needed

That reminds me about John Muir's book on VWs for the complete idiot. He had people ask him how long they should warm up the engine before driving - he said that he starts the car, takes out his tobacco bag and rolls a cigarette, lights it and then he drives away. It is not rocket science, kids.

    Broken bolt = square paperweight

Working around steam and hot piping in my early years taught me that graphite grease is a good thing. Never seize, copper coat, even lead coat are great dressings to keep bolts from galling and coating gaskets means they come off when you need them to.

    Best tire on a budget

If you are buying for the street on a stock truck, it is hard to beat commercial tires. These could cost $150 apiece + m&b, but they will drive more miles than any other tires. They will drive on dirt roads, but are not offroad tires.
