What have you done to your square lately??

It has been a productive night to say the least. My new carb is on the truck and now the truck runs and idles........ Considering that the carb that the truck came with was missing pieces this is a great upgrade. Even the choke works. After messing with the carb the pin holes on the driver's...

    where should the clutch catch?

Greetings all! Does anyone know where the clutch should catch on an 81 3 speed saginaw? I am used to clutches catching right off of the floor (for a manual clutch) and right in the middle (hydraulic clutch) but my square catches at the very top of the pedal. I was told that this truck has a...

What is the best oil viscosity to run in a 292 Inline-six with high miles?

When I had my Buick Regal I used to run Valvoline 20-50 high milage oil in it. Now the way that i drove that car is criminal and i did go through 2 engines (i hated the #1 main cap) but the 20-50 seemed to work fine in San Antonio with the cold, hot, and miserable days that we have down here...

What have you done to your square lately??

as much as i HATE to say this I haven't done anything to the basket case due to the weather and a death in the family. My uncle, who was a giant car nut, passed away and he never got to see my square. At the end he kept asking for pictures and i never had the time to send him any. I hope that...

    1? 2? 4?

amost forgot...... while removing the carb those vacuume check valves "accidentally" fell off. I also find it funny that the carb has isc motor on it considering that the vehicle doesn't have ac. i don't think that the isc has ever been hooked up and it's fried to begin with so........ weight...

What have you done to your square lately??

i hosed everything down 3 times with penetrating oil tht i got from work. when teh fittings started to move i started to work the fitting (loose, tighten, repeat) until the fittings came out. having a rotted wood bed floor did make it easy to get to the main fitting on the line that you are...

    1? 2? 4?

Yep, it's me again. Still working on the basket case (1981 250 I6) and for the life of me i can't figure out what carb should be on this thing. RIGHT NOW it has a 2 bbl varijet 2 that doesn't look like it belongs on the intake since it seems that someone made an adaptor out of sheet metal to...

ok, i'll bite. where is the reverse light switch

While i was working on the basket case today (1981 c10 250 I6 3 speed saginaw on the tree) i decided to fix the reverse lights. I pulled the bulbs and tested them and they are good but there is no electricity getting to the bulb sockets. normally there is a switch on the side of the...

What have you done to your square lately??

WOW! i' glad that i decided to replace all of the soft brake lines! When I got the basket case i noticed that the passenger's side front brake line was in two pieces so I replaced it. Today I finally replaced the driver's side line and the back lines. When I pulled the line from the driver's...

What have you done to your square lately??

I was up late last night and the basket case (1981 C10) now has a new fuel pump and the broken front brake line is now brand new. I hope to have all of the soft brake lines replaced by the end of the weekend. Next up is to rebuild the 2bbl carb. I think that it is full of junk and the...

Catalytic converters: does your square have them?

I once wondered about the lack of an air pump and a cat on the basket case and i found out something interesting. My particular 1981 square was built in Canada (vin starts 2g) and for some reason was exempt from all of that crap. i do kind of have an egr (it's fried) and an evap canister and...

    it's stupid question time

well i figured out why that fitting was fighting me. the nut was originally cross threaded onto the fitting. this extraction involved the use of: a crow bar a screw driver a hammer a cordless drill a crap load of swearing I WIN! (and i didn't even come close to damaging the steel fuel lines...
