    700R4 TV Cable (and Carb....)

Hah! Thanks! I just like the help when I can. This is a topic I'm well versed in and not too much specific info out there or just hard to find. I did years of homework on the 700R4 to get to where I'm at, and few like to share. Lol Hoping karma continues to go around, 1 way or another. Merry...

    700R4 TV Cable (and Carb....)

I just hope all the info I provided helps you out. Pictures are a 1000 words, so I'm crossing my fingers that they're as clear as can be for a useful reference. I'm ecstatic that it was in time for your install too! :D:D

1987 TBI wont start, no spark, but has fuel

To be 100% sure about the fuel on a TBI system, you'll need to install an in line gauge. Once in, you can leave it there. Disregard the yellow jumper wire, I was doing some testing.

    700R4 TV Cable (and Carb....)

This is what it looks at the throttle body... at least on my truck. Cable location will vary from passenger to driver's side, depending on setup. TV Cable bracket will also look different dependent on throttle body or carb setup.

    700R4 TV Cable (and Carb....)

If you rebuild it, don't permanently install the pan with the gasket... which I don't think you can because of the TV link. You'll have to link through the pan... (most people don't remove the whole cable with trans -speaking aloud). Hold the pan on temporarily with 4 bolts or so while...

    Ground Issue

Try this.... open the door, leave it open. .. then test radio, cig lighter etc Correction: Hmm.... I was thinking you may have wired into the courtesy wiring. ..but that prob. isn't the case if you have no interior lights working, even with door open anymore. Plus that wouldn't affect the horn...

    700R4 help

True...but as I stated above not all of these units have solenoids, and not all have the same ones. If they're anything like other trannys, they vary in resistance depending on the clutch pack or job they perform.

    700R4 help

Problem is I have no listing as to what these should measure, so far. I'll have to post tmrw since I have an early day. Maybe by the time I'm off wrk others have given there feedback or thoughts. I'm no tranny pro. ;)

    700R4 help

It's very possible you have type 1 then... especially if it's the original to the truck one. Here's its diagram: I'm trying to see if I can find way to test those solenoids. In other trannys, they give you 2 ways to test them by 1st jumping them with 12v and listen for function. Then to check...

    700R4 help

I'm leaning so but before you do.... There should be a stamped code towards the rear of the passenger side just above the pan. It's a number then letters... 1st number is for the year, the 2nd two digits should be the model. In fact sometimes the camera can see the digits better than our eyes...

    700R4 help

Sorry I had to edit that post. I was wrong, I think. Lol They made at least 15 different type VB setups..which include the wiring as well (from 82-86). I have at least 12 of those diagrams..but hard to say what you have inside without knowing the model # at least or removing the pan, even...

    700R4 help

Well.. he can just unplug the trans connector to test that theory. At least up until 87, the only connections were the 2 wires for the TCC, I believe. Easy to verify by counting the wires to tranny. ***CORRECTION*** I went and looked it up. It seems that there were trannys that did have...

    700R4 help

Well since it's done this the entire time, you really don't know how it was treated or how it was driven. It's possible internal damage at this point then. It's very possible the 3rd gear clutches are burnt or maybe the accumulator spring(s) is(are) broke. I'm leaning towards the that clutch...

How is 700r4 lock up controlled in a 1984?

It does have a lockup on 80 and up... what it doesn't have is overdrive. It's not like the TCC on a 700R4 though. It's a pressure type switch near the governor, I wanna say... but don't quote me on that part.

    Lost Most of My Lights

Maybe try unplugging the rear harness? Just to pinpoint where to focus. I don't know if GMs have that like the Fords. You can unplug & replace the entire rear tag, brake, and parking light harness. It's even separate from the trailer harness just an add on on its own connector.

Engine turns over but wont start, ignition?

I doubt it's your timing at all due to the fact that it runs normal intermittently. It's either timed or not, unless Dizzy base bolt is loose and you'd have other symptoms of farting and back firing, etc.

Engine turns over but wont start, ignition?

Unfortunately the most accurate time to test it is when it doesn't start. You need to verify if you have spark or not. You can test for coil spark using an Incandescent Test light connected to ground to verify spark out of the coil. NEEDS an AIR GAP, as in don't touch the tip of the test...
