    Hood ornaments

My 82 Silverado doesn’t have one. Neither does my buddy’s 84 diesel. Must’ve been an option?

To 6.2, or not to 6.2

Went and dig through the yard more today. Found another Chevy 1 ton van. This one is an 86 6.2 diesel and I believe it is a j code from the vin. Correct me if I’m wrong. This engine looks pretty clean but is in unknown condition. $300 for the whole thing. If it is a J code is it worth the...

Well nothing went as planned yesterday. We couldn’t find the hitch for the truck I was going to take, since the truck is set up for gooseneck pulling it didn’t have the bumper pull package installed at the moment. So we went and started unloading a tractor off of my buddy’s gooseneck and blew...

To 6.2, or not to 6.2

I have already missed the getting it running by winter deadline. We are getting snowed in in town today. I just went and dig through the wrecking yard yesterday and they have a running 165k mile 6.5td that they want $400 for with accessories. Considering that swap now. Would cut out the rebuild...

To 6.2, or not to 6.2

I’ll have to look at it again then. It has military markings on it, stenciled numbers under the hood and the whole thing is od green.

To 6.2, or not to 6.2

Thanks for the info. I would go with the cucv motor since it would be a J code but it’s missing a head intake and exhaust, it has been pretty well robbed for parts. But the cucv motor is in a military van, so it would be the same deal. I will do some more digging on the compatibility.

To 6.2, or not to 6.2

Forgot to add. If I stick with the 350 I need to get as close to 20 mpg as I can. I often drive a 400 mile round trip to the coast and back to visit family, 2-3 times a month. Is that even possible to achieve? I would not be able to afford the fuel bill at 12 mpg.

To 6.2, or not to 6.2

Okay I’ve been reading a lot, and I mean A LOT, on this topic and I am growing more conflicted and would like to weigh in on the opinions of others and get a general idea of any extras I will need to buy. My truck is a 82 k10 with a SM465 and a weather seized 350. I love the idea of the 6.2...

    Impact wrenches

I have the top of the line Milwaukee Fuel 1/2” impact gun and I gotta say it is a beast. I’ve never found a bolt it won’t break, even working on heavy equipment. It’s rated for 1400lbs nut busting and I think that is and understatement. Will you even use it’s full potential on a pickup? Probably...

Rebuild an engine in the truck

I knew that but the bills this month are making things tight and I couldn’t afford getting a hoist and stand yet. Getting the truck running is more important until I can find a deal on a stand and hoist.

Rebuild an engine in the truck

I’ve don’t that before with a VW engine. Totally forgot about that trick! Just makes one hell of a mess! And I’m not sure how it would work on an engine with multiple stuck pistons. On the VW I got lucky and only had one stuck piston. Busted loose easily

Rebuild an engine in the truck

Well I’ll try pulling the heads and beating the engine free and see how it runs. If it’s horrible I’ll go for rings. I’ve seen guys do main and rod bearings with the engine in so I know if I have to I can do those lol. Thanks for the info

Rebuild an engine in the truck

So I can’t find info in this. I want to know if anyone has ever done a re-ring kit with the engine still in the truck. I know big diesels are rebuild in frame all the time but I’ve never seen a light truck engine done. I ask because I don’t have an engine stand or hoist and don’t want to buy one...

    Proper spark plug gap?

I just make sure there is actually a gap on the plug and I call it good. Lol. No noticeable performance difference in properly gapped plugs so what’s the point. That’s how I do it on all my rigs. Learned that trick from a vw engine builder of 40+ years.

I ended up getting that tow bar from face book, the bumper pull type. I paid $80 for it and I think it will work out fine. I’m planning on going to get the truck Saturday so I will let you guys know how it goes!

Are 7 inch LED headlights good?

https://vintagecarleds.com I have these in a few rigs and they are great quality. The owner Thomas is a really nice dude and will answer any questions you have if you call him. I just had a bulb burn out and he next day shipped me a new set of better headlights than I previously had. They also...

Well I got a wild hair today and went and questioned the guy at United rentals about that trailer they have. I specially asked why the online price is different. “Well we can give you that price you just have to ask for it,” I get a $200 discount if I ask??? What kind of mess is that. I...

It says online that you have to have your load inspected at a Uhaul center before traveling. Is this true?

So should I try to get my hands on brackets or drill holes in the frame then? Both of those scare me as brackets probably don’t exist pre made and I have never like drilling frame holes, even for a trailer package.

Anyone ever pull a truck with a tow bar? That might be my most economical option. A 5k pound tow bar is around $100.
