    Possible score?

I should know in a day or two if this is going to happen but I may have just scored big on a 96 Tahoe. Mechanically it went in today for an alternator, but the owners are loosing faith in it. I may be able to pick it up for as little as $500, and I won't even need a gun to do it. The really...

    Show Us Your Man Cave

Nice shop. Mine is smaller than I would like (1+ car) and the guy who built it was in to rice burners so the door is too small to get my square in. I like the idea of a nice finished floor. If I can get one for cheap, I want to get an old electric furnace and just mount it to the ceiling...

Ok, I guess it's my turn. My son was filming last night as I grabbed 2 cars for a dealership from a brokerage. He was a bit slow getting started but all you missed was me rolling back the deck. He also paused while I walked over to bring the second car over. The whole thing took 12 minutes...

I don't know what the other companies in the area pay (Other than one that is paying $10/hour and drivers are on 24/5.) but I don't know that I could get on with more than maybe one other due to how far out I live. For now I just keep on keeping on.

Tow Trucks, Wreckers and Car Hauler Discussion

The reason I postponed it Friday night is I had no backup. That is a 6-7 hour tow with noone else in the area to cover what comes up. We have 4 drivers, 2 were on vacation and the other one had some personal business to take care of Friday night. I like the long tows, it's pretty much hassle...

Tow Trucks, Wreckers and Car Hauler Discussion

Well, I'm day 14 into a 26 day week. At least it's over half way through that. Yesterday was a 34 hour day and the boss got his monies worth on that one. Yesterday was one of the busiest days I have done. I have had more calls in a day but this had the right mix of service and tows and...

Tow Trucks, Wreckers and Car Hauler Discussion

Well shit. Today was crap. Got called out to load an H2 for an 8 mile tow. Had a goofy angle to get at it and had to load it backwards as it was parked in front of the garage. I got it up on my deck and retracted the deck a bit so I had room to throw some chains on the front of the H2 before...

    Engine break in

If you really want to know if you are using too much or not enough zinc for your engine start doing regular Oil analysis. The numbers you get back won't point to something specific you can compare to any other engine. What it will do is give you a baseline for your specific engine and when...

Tow Trucks, Wreckers and Car Hauler Discussion

I've been doing commercial driving of some sort or another for about 15 years. I've driven brand new equipment and I've driven old stuff. New is nice but I'm more concerned with how it is kept up. Older equipment is fine if it is well maintained. Where I am now, we have 2 rollbacks. One is...

Tow Trucks, Wreckers and Car Hauler Discussion

Passing on a LEO call isn't something we want to do, but it isn't always something we can get around. Even stopping to unload and scoot to the call I have situations where I would be over an hour out. Our coverage area is just that big. We don't always have someone available to back us up...

Problem with the tribe is how they handle it. LEO calls are a crap shoot, no doubt. But when they can impound out of your driveway with no consequence to the owner that just makes it too easy to make the crap someone else's problem. On your murder car, I would have thought there would have...

Tow Trucks, Wreckers and Car Hauler Discussion

Red letter day in the tow business. Local tribal police called for an impound on a boat and trailer. Rules on this Reservation are that the tribe owns the driveways for the various homes. When they decide that a vehicle is no longer serviceable they can call for an impound right out of...

    Engine break in

If you're asking me if they will work together, I don't have an answer for you. I know there are those who swear by Lucas products. I know there are others who swear that a good oil is all you need. I am not an expert and offer no opinion on the combination. Lucas overall has a good...

Did they use it as an additive or as an oil replacement? Seems a bit excessive if it set up like that. And no, I have no experience there, just an observation.

Why did you use your wife's water? I understand using distilled water but most bottled drinking water is nothing more than tap water that "MAY" have been filtered.

Legally, we are limited to 60 MPH here. That isn't to say we never go faster than that, but there is no way we are going to be hitting 84. :D Many of our calls are 20+ miles away on country roads so we don't have many stops and we get 45-60 MPH roads. Easier to get good mileage that way.

    Need halp

I'll be back tomorrow to tow the one I broke last night. She is still trying to decide where to take it. She told me one shop (not a bad choice) but she was under the impression that he would also do the body work. She didn't like hearing that wasn't the case and so she needs to do her...

Our medium duty wrecker gets around 12 as well. I did a 15k bus with it and averaged 11 with it and that had about 90 minutes on site idling (don't ask). Our Medium duty rollback is lucky to get 10. That was one of the reasons we got the Dodge which gets about 13.

    1986 K1500 Starting Problem After Cleaning Q-Jet

Not a bad place to start your trouble shooting. Too many guys start throwing parts at problems and $800 later it comes out that I started by adjusting ____ but that "shouldn't" have done anything, right??? I like to start with what I have touched most recently and rule that out first.
