TH400 Vs 700R4 Vs 4L80e Vs gear vendor

Project is currently stalled. I can't get the truck in my shop (IF I remove the mirrors I have 2" to spare) and it is too damn cold and wet out there to play in this muck. Also, I took a big pay cut when I took this job so the funds aren't there right now. Fortunately, momma's about to start...

    TBI 454 Complete. Western NC

I'll do some more research on this then. I like the idea of going to TBI but don't have the pockets to support an off the shelf aftermarket solution.

    TBI 454 Complete. Western NC

On second thought this may not work for me. TBI requires a crank and cam sensor, right? Or is there a way to fake that?

    TBI 454 Complete. Western NC

Obviously you'd like this sold sooner rather than later but how long are you willing to hold on to this? I'm hoping to come up with enough scratch for that this spring. It would make a nice upgrade to my C30.

Did you drill it before you put it in?

Head gasket, water pump, or ?

Drilling an 1/8" hole in the housing will let air through so it will burp better. It will also help prevent an air lock at the thermostat that may keep it from opening.

Did you drill a hole in the T-stat prior to installation?

This may be a stupid thought but what kind of fuses are used on an 87? If they are glass fuses could you have a loose fuse? Tight enough to carry voltage but not tight enough to carry the amperage. Just a thought and I may be way off base.

    Motor Mounts?

I don't disagree about the ability to drill the frame. I also agree about the difference between a PROPERLY drilled hole vs a torch cut hole. My point was that the flanges (as I was taught) are an absolute no drill zone. The frame wall is drillable and I know people who have drilled the frame...

    Motor Mounts?

I thought you were never supposed to drill the flanges on a frame rail. That is where your frame strength lies and drilling there causes a potential failure point for the frame down the road. Am I wrong?

    Cab roof lights...

Actually, they are required for a commercial vehicle. The three in the middle are your clearance lights and the outer two are your marker lights. The clustering of them is spelled out in DOT regs. Technically if you are running any kind of commercial rig you are supposed to have those lights...

    HRPC--Skip White Distributor

OK, that helps. Hopefully I can do this soon. I probably would have ordered one today if it weren't for the fact I've been home with the flu for the last 3 days. Granted, others are doing worse but I do have to watch dollars and cents.

OK, I guess I misunderstood when they said you just needed to add a fresh coil.

    HRPC--Skip White Distributor

So is there an economical option for a coil to go with it or do you just bite the bullet and get the ACDelco from Rockauto? I see where there are cheaper options but are they more trouble then they are worth?

    HRPC--Skip White Distributor

The other question was about the one you suggested. Would that one work with a 454? I don't know it would work or not. My guess is the variable would be with the distributor gear, but I don't even pretend I understand the ignition system...yet.

    HRPC--Skip White Distributor

I thought that one was actually for an upgrade from a points system. That would have predated TBI by a month or two by my math. I didn't know if the upgrade model would work the same as a replacement for an HEI original. The one you listed would be fine even though it doesn't list...
