    700r4 transgo shift kit tips

I'm also a fan of Transgel. It's cheap enough. Joe

Timing retards on its own but distributor stays put, WTF ???

Check to make sure the top of the distributor shaft is not slipping on the shaft. They are pressed on and can get loose. Wandering timing is the symptom. As far as getting the distributor to drop back in place, have you ever tried moving the pump a bit with a screwdriver until the...

    WTF did I break now?

Easy fix. Pop the driveshaft out. Knock the seal out. Drive the new one in. Make sure you have a way of driving the new seal in squarely before removing the old one. Joe

    New th700 installation

If your shift points are good then your TV cable is most likely good. I've got no idea which way you adjust the vacuum switch. If it came with directions, give them a shot. You are correct on the purpose of it. Joe

    New th700 installation

It could be a couple of things. If you have really tall gears in the diff, shifting into OD at 40-50 will bring the RPMs too low and it will lug. If that's the case, I'd do exactly what you are doing. Keep it in 3rd unless you're on open highway. The converter is locking too soon(less...

    6.0 LS into 86 C10

Yup. Waukesha XA Engine. Top speed for it is around 1600 RPMs. Runs like a Swiss watch. Rides really rough. I have no idea how someone spend a day in the fields with one. They must have been a lot tougher than I am. Joe

    6.0 LS into 86 C10

It does. It's a 1927 Rumely Do-All. Took a long time to do a mechanical restoration on it. There aren't any parts available, so I had to make it all. Drive gears on the wheels, and the clutch pressure plate were the hardest. Joe

    6.0 LS into 86 C10

Here's the final pic of the engine. I used an OEM air cleaner setup. Original setup came with the 85 mm MAF and plumbing. This one is the 100 mm (really only 93 mm) setup. I had to re-scale the MAF in the tune but I like the way it works. I like running a paper air filter instead of a K&N...

    6.0 LS into 86 C10

You'll probably need a spacer and different flexplate at the very least if you want to connect the 5.3 to the older drivetrain. There's a lot of info already out there on doing 4WD swaps, but I'm not educated on it. Mine is a 2WD. It doesn't look like the 5.3 was running in that truck. Did...

    6.0 LS into 86 C10

I had to get s driveshaft built for it. Not a big deal. I used the original radiator that is in the C10, and installed a separate trans cooler. Gauges are still not decided on though. I believe I'm going to use an Ultragauge. They look cool.

TH350 aftermarket oil pan will not stop leaking bad

Any chance it's the shifter seal, or maybe pass-thru for the lockup converter, if it has one? Joe

Trans is finished. Gotta install it on Saturday.

    700r4 install

A 700R4 has no vacuum modulator. Its sole source of engine load is the TV cable. You have to have one, and get it properly adjusted. Joe

85 C20 AT suddenly backfires; now runs crappy

If your timing changed, make sure the top of the distributor shaft didn't come loose on the splines. Your symptom matches that problem. Joe

fuel vent issue stumped need help

I don't see how a bad selector valve could cause dieseling, but I suppose most anything is possible. If it still diesels after this, check to make sure it's not running a little hot, and check the timing. If it's not either of those try some higher octane gas for one tank. Joe

    6.0 LS into 86 C10

Finally some forward progress on the C10. I installed a Brian Tooley Truck Cam and Flat Top Pistons. I also bought an HP Tuner so I can tune it myself. This week I pulled the old 4.3L and TH400. Dropped in the 6.0 and associated wiring. Yanked the bed and installed all new fuel lines, tank...

    72 javelin

Cool car. My buddy had one in high school. Put 12:1 slugs in it, then a 3000 stall converter. It sure would burn a tire! His was red with a white side stripe. Joe

    Dead short with IGN off.

Any chance you have a multimeter capable of measuring amps? The pulsing test light is common on newer vehicles. For example, say a cmputer on the vehicle is trying to power up through the test light. The test light provides enough power to the circuit to power it up only briefly. Then it...

    Head gasket on the cheap

Here is some good reading on this: http://www.holmanparts.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/06_GasketSurface-Cleaning_V2.pdf Their recommendations are kinda extreme, recommending only wooden or plastic removal tools on aluminum. The problem with the abrasive disks is that the oil filter doesn't...

    Head gasket on the cheap

I don't recall any SBC using stretch bolts for the heads, so it should be safe to use the head bolts again. The wire brush and/or razor blade is great for cleaning the block and head. I'd avoid abrasives like the plague for cleaning the block. There's no stopping the grit from making it into...

    4l80e leaking and draining

You need to fix your leak, but the reason it drips after sitting is that it's not uncommon for the converters on a 4L80E to drain back into the pan when they sit. The pump bushings get worn and they don't hold fluid like they should. It's harmless, unless you have a leak! By the way, if it...

    Truck tilts when steering

I'm not certain of what this mechanic is talking about, but if it is what I suspect, then he should know this is normal. Any vehicle that has a caster setting other than 0 degrees will tilt when you turn the wheel. It has to, because as you turn the steering wheel one wheel gets forced down...

Need Help, ECT 3 Modules, no cure ?

This is a long shot, but a simple check. In the early days of EST, the PCMs were pretty susceptible to outside noise. On occasion we would find a car or truck setting random Code 42s and it was because the 4 wire harness coming out of the distributor was run too close to the plug wires. It...

    Spongy brake pedal

Hi mojo, It's way more likely you have air in the master cylinder, brake lines, wheel cylinders or calipers. The master cylinder probably didn't fail at the same moment you opened the brake lines. It's not impossible, but unlikely. Bleed the master cylinder. Re-bleed the brakes. Joe
