    Body work on my '86

Then came the body filler and sanding. I can't believe how many hours I sanded, filled, sanded again, filled again....I now know why body work is as expensive as it is. By the time I finished working my way around the truck I was way better at it. that made me unsatisfied with my previous...

    Body work on my '86

I was pretty crummy at it at first, and it took me a long time to accomplish anything. I got faster as I did more of it though. I ended up welding in 2 cab corners, one piece behind the RR wheel, and lots of holes that were in the door. Apparently it had had plenty of different mirrors on it...

    Body work on my '86

A buddy of mine that is a body guy offered to help me fix my truck up enough to repaint it. At first I didn't think I'd ever take him up on it, but then this Coronavirus hit and I was left with a bunch of spare time on my hands. I'd stop over to his shop with the truck during the day. He'd...

    79 C10 4.8 4L60 Swapped But No Acceleration

When it isn't accelerating, are the O2s reading rich or lean? Are you sure you're getting 1st gear on launch? Joe

    TBI pods are leaking!

I don't think I'd trust ATF to install those injectors. I'd use motor oil or grease to do it. They need to stay slippery until the bolts are tightened. I have used motor oil successfully, but I'd probably go with grease if I had to go back in there as many times as you've had to. Joe

LMC Mirrors Chome VS Stainless Whats the difference?

Thanks for the replies. I ordered stainless mirrors wit the brackets, along with some window channel etc, from LMC. I will post back how it went. Joe

LMC Mirrors Chome VS Stainless Whats the difference?

Sorry to be reviving an old thread, but I suppose it's better than opening a new one to rehash some of that is said here. I have an 86 C10 that was pretty rust free, but had more dents in it than straight metal. I have taken advantage of being home for the virus outbreak, and also taken a...

    Painting inside of bed

Thanks everyone for the advice. I appreciate it. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but leaning towards the do-it-yourself bed lining. Joe

    Painting inside of bed

I have started trading work with a local body shop (I do automotive electronic diagnostics for local shops) and he agreed to help me do all the body work on my truck. I'm about done with the metal work and think it is straight enough for paint. The truck is dark brown, but I'm going to spray...

    4L80 or OK with 4L60

There's no shortage of strong opinions on this subject. A search here will turn up more reading than you could get through in a weekend! For my 2 cents I'll say for a daily driver, the 4L60E is a great trans and it will last a good, long time. If you're going to tow a lot, or beat on it at...

Are the Jolly Ranchers the wanna-be ranchers? If so, that's pretty funny.

    Frame swap

Welcome WildWilly! There is a ton of info on this subject posted here and most any truck forum. No shortage of youtube videos. They are easy to find. On a smart-aleky note: It's nice of you to build a truck for your wife. It seems the gals have trouble parking long beds. :):D:Big Laugh...

TBI tune after installing headers and dual exhaust

Ideally you could put your O2 in back of a crossover pipe, but only if it was close to the engine. A good compromise if to put it in either header, but definitely put it back in. No, you don't need the Cat for it to work.

    350 tbi timing

I agree with this. I have always set these trucks at 8 degrees with no trouble. The couple of extra degrees you might get out of it by running 92 octane would not be worth it, unless for some reason you needed to squeeze every singe HP hour of it. So set it at 8 degrees and run 87 octane...

    77 K10 LS Swap

Funny that you chimed in with this. I worked at a big multi franchise dealer in the 80s. All the A bodies did that for as long as that body style lasted. You could reduce the symptom by baking the shoes a bit. A few consecutive stops from 60 MPH using only the parking brake would usually...

    5.3 LM7 going in my 87

I hate to contradict a fellow member here, but I think Fried Daddy meant to say he had his truck unprofessionally tuned! Professional technician? Sure. Professional tuner? ....more like a youtube tuner! ;) Either way, the fuel trims came out great, and the PE tuning happened without any...

    Options for engine swap

As others have stated already, sticking with a SBC would be less expensive and still be completely reliable. The LS upgrade could be even more reliable if you did it right, and add the benefits of better HP, torque and fuel mileage. Add a new electronic overdrive trans and you'd have even...

SOLD 1987 k10 suburban for Parts *All Gone*

Any chance you have a set of working front seat belts? I've got a set, but they don't ratchet or lock. They wouldn't lock if I crashed. Thanks, Joe

    5.3 LS Swapped Computer Program

i bought an HP Tuner. I use it quite a bit. I just swapped gears in the diff and added electric cooling fans to my 6.0 swap. I've tuned a couple of other vehicles as well. The learning curve is steep in the beginning, but it's worth learning. Joe

Starts but quickly dies, any low tech tips for diagnosis?

Check your spark when it won't run. If it's not there, then check the distributor. You've probably got an HEI distributor in there with vacuum advance, right? If so, it wasn't uncommon that the wires from the pickup coil to the module would eventually break. They move with changes in engine...

    4l80e Speedometer Options

For driving the speedometer there are a couple of choices. This is one: https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/41800/10002/-1?gclid=Cj0KCQiA89zvBRDoARIsAOIePbC-HmLsJocdutvMXUsT2HHErlEs_JPb8VRRFkW8iMjx0kzJ4yOXx4EaAkxLEALw_wcB Of this one...

    Is my transmission going out?

It's certainly possible that it stuck in 2nd or 3rd, but it's not likely. It's also possible that the converter failed, but it's almost impossible for it to fail intermittently. My money is on an engine problem. Not trans. Joe

    Is my transmission going out?

When the gas was floored, was the engine revving up like it was in neutral? If so, it sounds like the trans is slipping. If the engine is bogging, and not revving way up with it floored, it's pretty unlikely it's unlikely that there's a problem with the trans. Joe

    Th400 Governor Weights

I've never tried it, but it makes sense that will will lower governor pressure. Maybe try drilling holes instead of grinding. It's free to try, so give it a go. i'd be extra careful to not introduce any shavings or grinding materials into the trans. Joe

    5.3 or 6.0 ?

Donor truck will make your life easier. Lots of little crap you can use from it. You can also save/use the harness as you see fit. I did a 6.0 in mine. Put flat top pistons and a Brian Tooley Stage 2 Truck Cam. 4L80E Trans. Did my own tuning. With the stock 2.73 gears I got 18 MPG...
