    Griffin Radiator

I'm having to replace my plastic tank radiator in my 85 C30 454 for towing. I don't want to do another plastic rad and I can't afford an OEM copper/brass $500 one. This leads me to aluminum, sorry RanchWelder. I thought Griffin was the way to go, american made is preferred by me, but so many...

    C20 for towing

I see a lot of people on here saying not to do a Square for this project. I tow a 9,000 lb travel trailer with my 1985 C30 non dually, if you keep it running well it will serve you well. You can spend less than 10k on a good truck with no rust and less than another 5k on an upgraded trans...

    Crew cab exhaust

I also have a crew cab 454. I'm installing hedman longtube headers with my new engine build. I have a shop in town I'm going to take it to for exhaust work. Planning on 2.5 inch with either flowmasters or Borla. Does anyone know if flowmaster 40s are still made in USA?

Absolutely. I decided to go with a crate long block from S&J since I have not yet rebuilt my own engine. Dan at S&J has been very helpful and he is helping me pick parts for the build. Does anyone have any opinion on cams ie lift and duration or flat tappet vs roller tappet for a stock 1985...

That's great. The S&J option is right around 2,200 balanced.

    LED headlights

I have an 85 Silverado and I'm wanting to do LED as well. I like the ones you see on ebay with amber rectangle running halos but I'm sure they're all made in China. I'm curious what you did.

    1989 Jimmy led headlights

Do you happen to have the packaging and can tell me where they're made?

I plan to diagnose in September. Summit has only steel timing sprockets for Mark IV 454 but I guess that doesn't mean they didn't come with nylon in 1985. A second opinion mechanic told me he thinks it could have just been a stuck valve from carbon buildup and it rebounded into the piston and...

Agreed. 1 good shop in my area and I can't imagine I can build a machined longblock with new parts for less than the S&J option. I also can't afford to wait for that right now. Thanks.

Thanks for these threads. When I have more time after moving and vacation in September I will pull the covers and check it out and let you know what I find.

Thanks for all this info. I'm likely ordering the S&J longblock but keeping my engine to rebuild maybe next year. I will look into these heads. Maybe the crate build will be mostly stock and the original motor rebuild can be more HP where I can get it. I had already ordered RPM Air-Gap intake...

I think this is what I've settled on. We are also in the middle of a move so time is limited or I would have already started pulling parts. The S&J long block is built in Spokane with American parts and is only $2,250 with the 7 year warranty. The mechanic I talked to on the phone recommended...

I was leaning this direction but it seems that there are only two machine shops in my county and only one comes recommended. It also could be a 2 month wait once I get the block to them. I do plan to pay the $800 core to keep the original engine and rebuild it when I have more time and knowledge...

    New member, blown motor!

Hey all, I'm a new member. I have owned my 1985 C30 3+3 Silverado since March 2021. Found her online, fell in love, flew to LA, drove to the top of the NW with no problems besides a flat in Crapremento. It carries my camper in the winter and hauls our travel trailer and 3 boys in the summer. I...
