    Please help paint code/color

Only thing I know is it's blue. Seems like a decision that should have been hammered out before any body work even began. Best bet would be to go through all the paint companies websites you can find and choose one that matches the best. Start with Summit's line and branch out from there. GL

    Engine build

If you are working on a budget, use the heads. Porting will help these along more than most realize. I have seen a couple of flow charts on 416's that are better than Vortecs. Yeah they require work, but it is possible. Being they are on a 350 you can reshape the combustion chamber and...

    3.5" exhaust

I absolutely agree. I think the first four or five feet of the system is the most important, and the majority of that is headers, assuming long tube. In theory as exhaust gas cools it compresses, so as it travels down the system a smaller diameter exhaust is technically needed. In a perfect...

    3.5" exhaust

I completely agree. I think people use the term back pressure when they should use scavenging. When people think smaller exhaust diameter they think they are adding back pressure. In reality, what they are doing is slowing down the exhaust pulses, and consecutive exhaust pulses begin to...

    3.5" exhaust

Single or dual? Single... too big but usable. Dual... waaay to big. Others opinions may vary.

    WTB: tach cluster carrier

Finding one with all the mounting tabs intact is almost impossible it seems.

    Steel 8 bolt Wheel Vintiques?

Can you do a 3/4 rear shot so we can see how they fit width wise? I have been thinking about those for my truck also.

    Soldering equipment....one better than another?

Great info! I have been researching soldering equipment also for the small R/C kick I am on right now. It is something that can be applied many places.

Rear choke pull off vacuum connection?

IIRC, it is to a port on the carb baseplate on my truck. I don't have any pics or my truck to verify however.

    choosing mirrors

  I was on a self-imposed ban from forums for a while to spend more free time with the family. And now that the weather is warming up, the truck while be coming out of hibernation so I thought I would see what was happening around here.

    choosing mirrors

Dude, think about it... Why are going to waste your time and money on temp ones? Simply run without mirrors for a year or two. If you don't like that idea, figure out what you want for permanent ones and do those the first time. You are wasting money it sounds like you don't have on...

    Tach and printed circuit

It's been a while since I bought my new one. Didn't realize new ones are around $70. Sorry, I don't have one. Hopefully someone here might.

    Tach and printed circuit

 Yeah, you want the printed circuit for a cluster with gauges, but no tach. I have two printed circuits for clusters with a voltmeter and electric oil pressure gauge. Here is a link that has good information on the clusters. It is geared toward the tach clusters, which I know...

    Tach and printed circuit

Ammeter or Voltmeter? Mechanical or electric oil pressure? I have a couple of them. One is from my '79 before I put the tach in.

    Tach and printed circuit

What year printed circuit are you looking for? There are differences so you need to make sure you get the right one for the cluster. Any specs you are looking for with the tach?

    fitech install om 77 c10

I am with bluex on this issue. Obviously you guys stay as far away from modern vehicles as you can. You are going to carry a carb and fuel pump and all the tools to do this fix, in your truck at all times? Do you carry extra springs/retainers/valves just in case something goes wrong with...

    Tach options

I am pretty sure the tach wires do not go into the cluster harness. Everything I have ever seen has the tach wires being separate, including where it goes through the firewall. They did this to reduce the possibility of electrical noise from from other components.

    TPI on a 73 350

I am still leaning towards a Microsquirt system to run mine. For ~$400 you get a new harness, which admittedly you need to run and attach your own ends, and the tuning software is free and on-the-fly-programmable. You are also dealing with new components.

    Timing is way off...

Did the '86 trucks run the CCC (computer controlled carb) system? Did a proper non-CCC dist. get installed when the non-CCC Holley got put on? That can cause problems if the conversion is not done correctly. I could be talking out my arse too.

Choosing a small block for my truck

I agree mostly with what all the others say. If you are pulling it out of the truck, yank the heads so you know exactly what you have. Then your parts selection can be that much better. And if you are changing the pan and all that, look into a one piece oil pan gasket. I have heard good...

Choosing a small block for my truck

Put a different cam in the 400 and go! Call up your favorite cam manufacturer and get their recommendation. Aluminum heads will be fine. If you have a 400 there is no reason to even think about a 377, imo, at least for a truck.

    TPI on a 73 350

I have a TPI intake I am going to try to gey on my 400 this year. I just love how they look! The whole head/intake issue isn't that bad. You have three options. Grind and clearance your late -intake to match your early heads. Get later heads to match the intake. Or get a Corvette/85-86...
