74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

That I do not know for sure as this is my first round eye and it’s a gmc. I’m going to say from looking at brackets and grills lately that that is a true statement. Only the deep 73-74 Chevy and GMC grills take the special brackets. I have no clue as to the 1980 where they had the different...

74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

110% sure. Just look at the grills and you see the 73-74 are recessed in. 75-76 are basically flush Mount. Mine had factory brackets still and broken grill. Couldn’t find a 75-76 GMC grill for less than $400 and I like the 73-74 the best anyway so it was a no brainer. Ben

74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

Necro thread but 110% the grills from 73-74 and 75-76 GMC’s WILL NOT interchange without new brackets and technically a core support. The 73-74 are deep dish and will hit the factory brackets on a 75 and later truck. I just put a 73-74 grill in my 76 knowing of this issue and bought the brackets...

    73/74 grill in a 76 truck

Came out great. Very happy with the look. I ordered the center and outer brackets new from lmc. The center bracket is just swap out old install new type deal. The outer brackets I needed to drill mounting holes in the core support. But there were dimples in the core support that were the exact...

New coolant temp sending unit showing maxed out

Yeah, I’m dealing with the same problem. I tested the new sender and it’s defective. It’s a direct short when it should have 650 ohms at 70 degrees. Ben

1976 coolant temp sensor part number needed

I would think that 190 degrees should be more to the middle rather than 1/4 way. I may try another sensor as that would bug me thinking it was cold still Ben.

1976 coolant temp sensor part number needed

So I’m sure it’s a bad sensor. I found a chart with the temperature and resistance relation, and at 70*F the sensor should read roughly 650 ohms. Mine reads 1.8 ohms. Yup. Garbage. I’ll be bringing a multimeter with me to get the next one for sure. Ben

1976 coolant temp sensor part number needed

John, do you have a part number and brand/store of the one that has your gauge working correctly? Ben

1976 coolant temp sensor part number needed

Thank you. That number crosses to the Napa number I got. I’m going to test the resistance and go from there. I found a chart online that shows the resistance throughout the temperature range so I can compare. Ben

1976 coolant temp sensor part number needed

The part number I got was listed for a gauge. Totally understand how it can be confused. Not saying that the part isn’t listed incorrectly. I’ll ohm it out tomorrow to see if it’s a dead short or not. But, if I were to put a switch in there instead of the sending unit, it wouldn’t peg the...

1976 coolant temp sensor part number needed

Hey guys. I need a known correct number for the temperature sensor for my 76 gmc. It’s for the gauge. I looked it up on maps, bought it and installed it only to find out it pegs the gauge to hot when it’s cold. Unplug the sensor and gauge returns back to to wherever the gauge wants to. I know my...

    TBI Off Idle Transition Problem

Your throttle plates are binding in dirty throttle bores. Or your throttle shaft has enough wear that the throttle blades can cock just enough to bind in the bore. I know exactly the jump off idle you’re talking about. start out by just taking fine scotch brite and some carb cleaner spray. Wire...

    Wipers run backwards

Ok that’s what I wanted to know. Yes for sure your linkage is out of time. You need to make sure the motor is in the park position, the. Set the linkage to get the wipers in the correct park position. That’ll get things straightened out for ya. Ben

    Wipers run backwards

Did you literally just replace the wiring and not touch ANYTHING with the wiper motor or linkage? You should have a constant 12volt ignition power to the motor for the park circuit. I forget which wire it is but there’s only a few wires at the motor. Ben.

1976 vin number. How many digits is your vin?

I have a guy that can make me a vin plate that is correct enough for any One around here. Already in the plans so if I ever do get stopped for anything, there is at least a visible vin. Ben

1976 vin number. How many digits is your vin?

Ok, so I thought I made an update but apparently not. I have the complete and correct vin for this truck. Just took a little research and help and I was able to get the complete VIN. No funny business, no swapping parts midnight auto style. did I get a little lax with the bill of sale at time...

1976 vin number. How many digits is your vin?

1996 and newer you needs title. I’ve nerve bought something that’s older than that and needed financing. I’m not sure you’d be able to or it would even make sense to get an auto loan loan for something that old. Probably have to get a personal or recreational loan at that point. I’m pretty sure...

How long does your Q-jet hold fuel in the bowl?

Yeah I totally agree with the gas evaporation. Just wondering how long others are getting before extended cranking. I do believe my Holley lasts longer because the bowl is significantly larger than the Q-jet’s. I’m probably going to add a clickety clackity pump so I can fill the bowl before...

    K5 Tailgate Closing Assist

My 87 the torsion rods were broken the day I bought it and I never replaced them. I did remove the hinges and free’d them up and made a world of difference. In all seriousness, the tailgates are heavy, but even with no torsion bar help, they’re not bad to lift with good hinges. Check your...

    Time for a Radiator Upgrade...?

That radiator core is F@cked. See how just the few rows we can see are almost completely plugged with deposits? Every row looks the same. You aren’t getting shit for flow through the radiator and therefore very little heat transfer. also, unless you drained water out to see the inside of the...
