    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

So to be clear 255/70’s are on the step side in the picture? But the master crafts are staggered at 255/60 and 275/60 ? Are the wheels on the step side 7” wide or 8” wide? I just don’t want to have tires that are too small looking on my burban Thanks Ben

    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

What sizes are on the step side? I’m going to switch to a set of Rally wheels on my 2wd suburban. 7” in the front and 8” in the rear. Was looking at 275/60r15 for the rear and 234/70r15 for the fronts. My truck is stock height with probably a little sag from age. I’m now going to look at the...

Stalling TBI when braking & warmed up

Does it stall immediately when stepping on the brakes or like you forget to step on the clutch if it was a manual when almost coming to a stop? I’m wondering if your brake switch for the torque converter isn’t working and the converter isn’t unlocking and the engine stalls before the trans...

Glow plug relay? Or controller? Short cycle

I can answer a few questions now. First No, the glow plugs should not cycle after the first minute or so from a cold start. The screeching sound you’re hearing when they come on is the alternator belt slipping. The glow plugs are a huge amperage draw and an instant draw too. It’s causing the...

700r4 locking up in 2nd also locking too fast. Vac switch?

Not trying to sound like a know it all….,, BUT,, 700’s came out in ‘82 for the trucks. I’ve got an 82, rebuilt the transmission. It had 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. I’ve rebuilt an 85 700r4. Had 3rd and 4th pressure switches. Had my 87 700 rebuilt same deal. Swapped an 88 700 in the...

700r4 locking up in 2nd also locking too fast. Vac switch?

Youre forgetting that there are pressure switches on the valve body. They have final say on when converter locks. Converter should never lock in 2nd. Ben

700r4 locking up in 2nd also locking too fast. Vac switch?

I’m not saying the converter solenoid is bad. We’ve diagnosed its not bad by stepping on the brake pedal and having it unlock. I’m saying there are pressure switches on the valve body itself inside the transmission that are supposed to prevent voltage from getting to the converter solenoid (also...

700r4 locking up in 2nd also locking too fast. Vac switch?

Actually now that I think of it. I told you wrong information. You’ve got a stuck pressure switch on the valve body itself. On the truck side you have ignition power that goes through the brake light switch (closed with brake releases) that then goes through the vacuum switch (closed with high...

700r4 locking up in 2nd also locking too fast. Vac switch?

Guarantee that you’ve got constant power being sent to the 4 pin connector at the transmission. I’ve got a manual over ride switch on my 82 so I can let the factory switches do their thing, I can manually unlock the converter and I can manually lock the converter as well. If I forget the switch...

    Diesel won’t start

Wrong. The injection pump has an electric solenoid mounted in the housing that shuts fuel off. Like all solenoids, heat is the enemy and can fail when hot. Cool down and work again. Now that we know it dies like shutting the key off and not running out of fuel, my money is on an electrical...

    Diesel won’t start

Why has no one asked if when it dies while driving, does it die like you turned the key off? Or like you’re running out of fuel? If it dies like you shut the key off, I’d be looking at the power wire to the fuel shut off or the shut off solenoid itself. I can’t see how a worn/tired pump will not...

What have you done to your square lately??

I was putting the 3rd seat in my suburban and went to roll the tailgate window up and no go. I’ve had an issue with the latch safety switch a time or two. So I took the panel off and just bypassed the switch. I know enough to not roll the window up with the tailgate open so I’m all set. Works...

    NP203 PSA

So, little story about what I did today that could have been disastrous. I’m going to start off with the fact that this is my first truck with the 203 transfer case. I do know the workings of a 203 and how they do what they do. I’m also ASE master certified and been a mechanic professionally for...

More quadrajet help please! Won’t run

I was wondering how long until someone noticed. I just flat out ran out of time fiddle f@cking around with the old quadrabog. I literally couldn’t get it to even run around the yard after that first day of it running decently. Took it apart again, removed idle transfer tubes to find they were...

More quadrajet help please! Won’t run

Been meaning to update this thread. I’ve been driving this truck now for a few hundred miles and it’s been running great. Starts right up and runs smooth down the road. Finally got it all dialed in and I’m happy with it… Ben

    More Problems with Brakes

I literally just replaced my master cylinder last night with one from Napa. Took probably 10 minutes to bench bleed. You need to screw the plastic plugs in that come with master. And pump it by hand until there are no more bubbles in the reservoir. I left the cover off so I could see the...

I call BS on wire size!

Yeah, I agree. Size needs to increase with length. Still think it’s cheesy for the pump to have that small of wire attached to it but I’d run bigger wire from there to the power source for sure. Ben

You’re Doing it Wrong !! Two tone Paint

I had an 89 blazer with the two tone paint. Always bothered me that the bottom of the front fender was the secondary’s color while the rear of the front fender was the primary color. Just looked half assed to me. They guys who do the straight across tape job not following the body line curve...

1976 windshield washer pump rebuild kit

Please tell me there’s a kit to rebuild these washer pumps. For some reason I’m just fascinated with the design of it and hate the idea of just replacing it with an electric pump. The solenoid and cam all work perfectly, just the rubber check valves are so stiff that it won’t work. Just figured...
