    1982 shifter chage for 700R4?

With the 700R4 VSS wiring it's $350. Could be worth looking into. FIS, no prices up front. Usually means high prices. What about the park position switch for the ECM? Doesn't the shifter detent need changed? This piece. LMC's website is sooo 90's, when companies tried to use the WWW *exactly*...

    1982 shifter chage for 700R4?

1982 shifter change for 700R4? Been doing some research while working on transplanting a TBI 350 from a 1991 into my 1982 GMC, along with the 700R4. Original transmission was a TH400. What all do I need to / should change on the shifter, neutral safety switch for the computer and 4 speed...

Transmission crossmember for 700R4 swap into an 82?

Nope, it didn't. It's a 1982 one ton that had a TH400. The crossmember for that transmission lifts quite a ways above the bottom of the frame and has an arch at each end for dual exhaust. The two ends that rest on top of the bottom of the frame are the lowest points. Has to go that high due to...

Transmission crossmember for 700R4 swap into an 82?

No dice on using the original crossmember. It's top side is up too high. The 3 speed's mount was on the tailhousing. The 700R4 mount is on the case, right behind the pan. There are holes in the frame for three different locations for the crossmember. The original one is raised up in the middle...

Transmission crossmember for 700R4 swap into an 82?

Pulled the old engine and trans out of the 82 GMC today. Found it's a Hecho en Mexico casting 10066036. Might be a 4 bolt, might not. Not pulling the pan to find out. Did some measuring on the dud 3-speed VS the rebuilt 700R4 and found that the mount holes for the 4-speed need to be farther...

    Small cap HEI, #1 terminal?

My old one has a top plate of sheet aluminum attached to a cast body. No numbers or any markings on the top side. Where in relation to the module is the terminal you're using for #1?

    Small cap HEI, #1 terminal?

Where in relation to the ignition module plugs is #1 terminal on the cap? There are no markings on my shiny new red cap and billet distributor. All the diagrams I find just show a round circle with nothing to indicate where the module is, just that #1 is roughly aimed towards the left front...

Piston rings for shallow oil grooves?

What all brands make rings that will interchange with Hastings 5615 or Sealed Power E-377X? My 91 engine needs the oil rings for shallow grooves and for some reason those ring sets cost 2 to 3+ times the $$$ as the sets for the deep oil grooves. That offends my sense of value, charging...

    New rings are too tight.

Federal Mogul says I should need set E377X. The ones I bought are what every online vendor I checked said was the right rings. Yet another piece of wrong information that comes from a single source that *everyone copies* then is #%%#@ing near impossible to get corrected.

    New rings are too tight.

#3 main bearing was bad on the 1991 350 so I bought a new Eagle cast steel crank and King bearings. No problems there. Also decided it may as well get new rings too. Bought a set of Sealed Power E-251X standard 4" rings. Put them in the bores and squared up, plenty of end gap. Put them on...

Looking for 1991 factory AC delete parts.

Went trudging around CBASS* today and found a compressor bracket and belt tensioner for $25 from a 1990. Found another one of the same era with the engine still in and with the belt routing diagram. There's a fixed idler pulley that's not used without AC so the belt is a bit shorter. Went to...

Looking for 1991 factory AC delete parts.

That's what I'm talkin' about. The no-AC bracket and tensioner from the 1988 to whenever standard cab.

Looking for 1991 factory AC delete parts.

Autozone shows different belts with and without AC. Those aftermarket delete pulleys use the standard AC belt.

Looking for 1991 factory AC delete parts.

My 1982 doesn't have AC and I don't have any of the AC parts from the 1991 donor. (The guy I bought the engine from kept it all.) I know those were available without air conditioning but I cannot find anything but a simple belt diagram showing there's a tensioner instead of the compressor and...

    1991 EGR delete?

Since my 82 GMC 1 ton has zero emissions controls and the 91 Chevy the engine is out of had only an EGR valve... What would I need to do beyond just capping the vacuum line and installing a block off plate? Would I need to have the computer chip reprogrammed? The valve is just vacuum operated...

1982 GMC Sierra 3500 in Idaho

Decided it'd be best to apply preventive action and spring the $ for a rebuilt 700R4 and at the same time have the rebuilder fit it with mechanical speedometer drive gears, calculated by various means to hopefully be right for the rear axle ratio and tire size. Got it for $725 shipped from that...

    1991 drivetrain into a 1982

The transmission only has a 2 wire connection for the speed sensor and the 4 wire plug. I've found instructions on converting the various electronic speedo setups to a mechanical type. Looks like it mostly involves pulling the reluctor off the shaft, installing the drive gear and replacing the...

    1991 drivetrain into a 1982

I've found these http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/SpeedSensors_Speedometer.html The 1991 TBI should have the two pulse per revolution type. Smog systems on this truck are not a problem due to 1. I'm not in California. 2. It's a one ton and even in California it was exempt from all the CARB...

    1991 drivetrain into a 1982

I have a 1982 GMC Sierra 3500 https://www.flickr.com/photos/27748767@N08/sets/72157644959205217/ 350, 4.56 rear gears, no AC, no cruise, no dome light, no nothing but power steering, power brakes and automatic transmission. (But it does have an AM/FM radio, such luxury!) I've pulled a...

1982 GMC Sierra 3500 in Idaho

I recently bought a 1982 1 ton GMC Sierra 3500 flatbed for my machine tool business. 5 digit odometer shows 27K and a thick folder of maintenance records shows it to have 127K miles. The intention was to gather the parts needed to upgrade it with a 700R4 and TBI. Then I saw a Craigslist ad...
