Fuel spitting out spark plug hole?!?

There's some serious merit to the cracked head (or blown head gasket) idea. The plugs look a bit yellow/orangey. And I do lose a little bit of coolant over the course of a couple months. It's just that the liquid being spat out during this exercise was gas and not coolant. This 305 would...

Fuel spitting out spark plug hole?!?

I pulled the valve cover and everything looked hunky-dory underneath. I checked the rockers and they all seemed fine. Nothing looked to be out of adjustment. I watched as my wife turned it over and everything seemed to be functioning just fine. For this test, I unplugged the injector pods...

Fuel spitting out spark plug hole?!?

Maybe? But since this isn't port/individual injectors, I'd think I'd be getting fuel out of more than just one cylinder on that bank if that was the issue. (I gasket-rebuilt the TBI about 4 months ago. Seemed to be doing its thing just fine afterwards.)

Fuel spitting out spark plug hole?!?

It runs really smooth. It sure sounds like it's firing on all cylinders. But she GUZZLES gas like nobody's business - way more than a little (mostly stock) 305TBI should. So I need to figure out why. So I'll act on your suggestion and see if I see something there.

Fuel spitting out spark plug hole?!?

Hey y'all, I was doing a compression check on my 87 305 TBI engine this evening and was getting fuel spitting out of the #8 spark plug hole while spinning the engine over to check pressures on the other cylinders. Any idea why that'd be happening?? All the other cylinders were bone dry while I...

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Wow, lot of posts since I last checked in on this one. Thanks for all the info, guys! I bought a "GM" pump off RockAuto a few days ago that comes with new in-tank fuel hose and such. I hope to get around to dropping the tank and installing it here in the next week or two.

    A/C only works when driving!?

While I can't declare it official at this time, I think a new blower motor may have fixed this issue. The problem was intermittent, and I haven't driven the truck and used the A/C enough to feel I've worked it out. But I've used it about 3 trips in the last week or so on pretty hot days and...

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Assuming you're tapping your fingers waiting on me  The truck runs okay-ish as-is, and it's my daily, and I've got other things going on in life that are more urgent. So I'm not in a big hurry to mess with having to drop the tank to replace the FP right away. It may be a week or 3 months...

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

This would be an interesting test. But I returned the fuel pressure test kit to Auto Zone yesterday - having already made up my mind that I should get a new fuel pump. If I'm still having issues after the new FP is installed, I'll circle back to this post and try your test.

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Thanks for the video, John. That's exactly how I'd imagine most any healthy FP (stock or Walbro) should act. I'd pretty much already made my mind up that I should get a new FP (I have no idea how old my current one is). But your video pretty much seals the deal.

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Put a brand new one on it just before I put it on the road about 6 months back.

    A/C only works when driving!?

Sorry I'm so dense guys. (Really appreciate you stickin' with me and trying to help this very A/C-ignorant fella out!) The blower motor is attached to the "squirrel cage" fan thing that's bolted into the big housing on the firewall just behind my pass. side inner fender? Since it's fully...

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Anyone??? Please! Is fuel pressure supposed to dip to zero right after key on? And it's falling quickly to zero after shut off normal? (Or a sign of a weak FP?)

    Tbi hesitation/stall from stop *solved*

Pete??? (Or maybe someone else in the know?) Can you give me a P/N for that fuel pump, please?

    A/C only works when driving!?

On the last time it stopped working, I flipped through all the fan speed settings and was getting absolutely nothing out of the vents, no warm air, nothing. Maybe that means I have a blower motor on the way out?

    A/C only works when driving!?

@Ricko1966 I just ran through the fan settings to check. A/C mode: Works in high. Works one notch below high. Vent mode: Works in high. Works one notch below high. Heat mode: Nothing out of the dash vents at all on high or one notch below (or any notch below that). But good, strong airflow...

    A/C only works when driving!?

Everything stops. I moved the fan speed through all the ranges when it happened and nothing worked. Radiohead: A friend riding with me just this past weekend mentioned alternator deficiency as a possible cause. So I'll see if I can figure out how to test its output in operating conditions.

    A/C only works when driving!?

I think it's manifold? (See photo attached. The line from the firewall eventually ends up at that vacuum port tree in the manifold.) And now that you mention vacuum to this system, this is an area where I had to "guess" when I (sort of) restored the engine bay a couple years ago. So maybe...

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

I would think the same thing, thus my query to the TBI brain trust here. A friend into LS's told me their fuel system does the same thing: 58psi key on, then drops to 0 and pumps quickly back up to 58 upon hitting the key.

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Hi all. I've got a mostly-original TBI system atop the mostly-original 305 in my '87 SWB. It seems to be working fairly decent other than I feel it should be starting a bit quicker than it does (takes about 3ish seconds of cranking to light off when cold 2ish when warm) and should definitely be...

Can you share the manufacturer and P/N of the new 454 pump, please?

A/C blower always running when key on

Hmm... so my 87 shouldn't be doing that? (Which it does.)

    A/C only works when driving!?

Sorry for posting and ghosting. But I couldn't replicate the problem until yesterday. It was the first really hot day since that day in May when it first happened that I had a chance to drive it. I turned the A/C on as I left my driveway. Got down to the end of the street and it's like I flipped...

    A/C only works when driving!?

There's zero air coming out of the vents when stopped. And then the air flow starts happening and builds as I get up to speed. I did reach up and found no air flow at the defrost vents. But I didn't think to reach down to see if anything was coming out of the under dash vents. I'll try that next...
