What have you done to your square lately??

Unfortunately she sits down a little in the rear. I HATE it! I will be fixing that when funds become available. It had a pieced together "lift" when I got it so I ordered a set of softride 2.5 inch lift springs from Skyjacker. Unfortunately they lifted it about 3.25 inches over stock which...

    Worst week so far!!

I am thinking that either your new 6 port switching valve is messed up or that you connected the tubing back to it incorrectly. It's almost like your fuel return is going where it shouldn't and that your suction line may be wrong. I would start with how you re-connected to that valve. If you...

What have you done to your square lately??

Which is why I have put the re-paint for mine on the back burner for now. I would like a fresh paint job but it's only "all original" once.

    Exhaust opinions and discussion

I don't think that 6.2 needs to have anything bigger than a 3 inch pipe. That motor didn't have a turbo, it's an economy rather than a power motor. If you put a 6 inch pipe on it, it wouldn't help it, they just don't need the volume. As an unfair comparison my '07 LBZ 6.6 was pushing 24 to 25...

What have you done to your square lately??

Even though it is now hotter than 2 fat fish flapping in a frying pan, I let my favorite-ex-brother-in-law talk me into attending another car show. He said it was important, it was a benefit for a local guy... It starts at 10. We get there at 9:30. All the good spots were taken, they stuck...

What have you done to your square lately??

In my ongoing quest for perfection from the TBI 350 I decided to change the Knock Sensor. Just being honest, I didn't even know my engine had a knock sensor until a few days ago. I have been digging through this forum researching and reading and studying and while reading some stuff by @Vbb199...

    Tachometer replacement thoughts

I am very interested in this as I have been considering this myself. I would love to have a factory looking setup, just buy the small fuel gauge and move it down to the left. Of course I would have to remove the QUARTZ!!! clock...I have no idea why they made such a big deal about that Quartz...

1987 Chevrolet 350 tbi high idle

No. The slave cylinder was new when I bought the truck one year ago. I replaced the master cylinder early October of last year because the original was dripping occasionally. I am positive it was the original. I wonder if there is a compatibility issue with whatever pressure plate/throwout...

The sensor. You may be able to screw it directly into the block or you may need the offset piping like I have on my truck. You can go back and look at my earlier pics for an example. Can you see that allen head plug in your pic? That's where it should go. Look in the end of the plug on your...

1987 Chevrolet 350 tbi high idle

That allen head plug just above the oil filter is in the hole where the brass pipe is supposed to screw in for the sensor. I can see it clearly in your first pic. It looks like someone removed your sensor and plugged it off leaving your wire tucked away. I am guessing you never saw a good oil...

    Picking a color

A co-worker has a Toyota Tacoma that darker tan color. He has customized it for off-road use so it sits about the same height as my '87. Since my truck is The Real Thing when it comes to 4WDs he often parks it next to mine and the color difference is obvious. Honestly, I never cared for...

1987 Chevrolet 350 tbi high idle

@iamtherealJayy where is that orange wire in the second pic going? That sort of looks like the wire that should be going to the sensor that I do not see in your pics. I just crawled back under the truck and got some more pics using the flash this time. Yes, I know I have oil leaks.

1987 Chevrolet 350 tbi high idle

Jacob, the oil pressure switch that is under the distributor is actually a back up and not a permissive. I also thought like you, I even misinterpreted the wiring diagram. It will complete the circuit when it senses oil pressure even if the primary side of that system were to fail. Not sure...

1987 Chevrolet 350 tbi high idle

This truck has more drama than Days of Our Lives and As the World Turns put together. First, the oil pressure is probably but not definitely the sensor. If you have a multimeter you can test it pretty easily. The sensor should be close to your oil filter. The one that is right under and...

    Holy Grail of Squarebodys

Aww hell, I surely didn't mean to derail this thread with this diesel vs. diesel BS. I once worked on a 27 foot Lafitte Skiff that started its life with a 4-71 Detroit and we later swapped it for 5.9 Cummins. At no point did we ever call it a GMC or a Dodge. I used to operate a 38 foot Chris...

    Picking a color

I don't think the color gets accurately displayed somewhere between the digital camera and the computer screen. My '87 GMC is actually darker than any of the pics I have and is definitely not yellow but the pics sometimes give it a yellowish look. Anyway, this is the OE "tan" for 1987. It is...

@SirRobyn0 does the TBI distributor actually have advance springs and weights? The TBI setup looks entirely different from the earlier distributors and if it does have them they are concealed from view. My new and old distributor for my '87 TBI 350:

    SOLVED:Truck boggs down when accelerating

I don't understand how it even ran with "the firing order backwards". I also don't see how an exhaust leak would cause the issue you describe. My '87 TBI 350 required a new distributor, new Ignition Control Module, and new plug wires to get rid of a full throttle weakness. Truth be told, it...

I know you know a lot and you are in the business of customizing things but I have to respectfully disagree with you on one point here. I don't like seeing Chevy engines in Ford Model A Roadsters and I won't even entertain the idea of a Cummins in a GM anything. You do know that GM has a...

Thank you. I was trying to somewhat duplicate the 1977 Sierra Grande that I grew up driving and that manual transmission was a huge part of that. Sadly, most '77s rusted away. The SM465 manual was part of my purchase criteria. I wanted it and wasn't going to spend money no matter how nice...

    Holy Grail of Squarebodys

I dunno... if a fellow had a 1987 with a TBI 350 would he really be satisfied? He might want a V1500 short bed. He would probably want it to be fully loaded, power windows and locks, the whole 9 yards. Then he might get picky and insist on the SM465 and 4WD. A Sierra Classic maybe...and with...

    Can we be honest people?

My high school car was a brand new 1988 Beretta GT, solid black with a gray interior and a 5 speed. I got it brand new my senior year and I loved that car. The computer shut it down at 121mph but it would run 120 all day long. I always heard those cars were just junk but that one wasn't. It...
