Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

Huh, well maybe I was wrong. I'll have to do some more reading myself. Doesn't a 400 have larger mains than a 350?

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

I think the 377 would be more similar to the 383 than most people would expect within a reasonable rpm range. I wish I could find an all else equal comparison between the two, kinda tricky because anyone who builds a 377 is planning to rev the shit out of it from the gate and builds it accordingly.

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

Do you know what the reasoning behind square dimensions being best is? I've heard it several times but never with the logic behind it.

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

Very true, I was mainly wondering if all else was equal are they as different as conventional wisdom says. My example isn't very useful for real world, really just a hypothetical in my head that I found the results interesting. I'm an engineering student so when I see a way to apply alittle of...

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

I think you're looking for ke=1/2mv^2 for kinetic energy. e=mc^2 relates mass directly to energy, c is the speed of light. I'ts what accounts for the loss of mass in nuclear reactions, it's atomic energy rather than kinetic. But back to kinetic, the mass of the crank would be some stored energy...

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

Yeah, in the real world I'll take all the cubes I can get regardless if it's from bore or stroke. I do think in an all else equal scenario they'd behave more similar than most people would guess. (That is as long as you aren't revving until stuff breaks)

Realized the spreadsheet had been broken. So i fixed, should be good to go again.

Bore vs. Stroke, a little math

So this morning I got to thinking about bore vs. stroke. I'd always heard that the longer stroke gives more torque due to the leverage, made sense to me so I never thought past that. But this morning I was thinking about how at the same displacement and compression engines with different...

How much does a Stepside bed weigh?

My dad and I could move my long bed stepper without too much trouble. I think a short bed would be no problem. Though hoisting it up on top of a truck bed could be tricky.

    My 454 build

Sir you insult me! Looking at a ford for reference?!?! JK, to be honest the only engines I have experience with are bbc and alittle jeep 4.0. Good to know, I may have to try a 4/7 swap next time I change my cam. I'll have to look around for some clips of how they sound.

Would a firing order swap play well with a dual plane manifold?

    Installing valve springs.....question????

Far as whether you need a valve job I think you should do a compression test or leakdown test like chengny suggested to get an idea of how your valves are doing.

14 bolt 10.5" rear disc conversion

I really like that solution, I'll have to see if I can make room in my budget sooner than later for a disc conversion. The parking brake has been making me hold off for some time now.

Stock jet size on a quadrajet for my 454

We did the same when my engine shattered a piston. Told them we were hauling a 1/2 ton instead of a 3/4 ton. Also had to rent a uhaul truck to pull it, only thing they had was a 34 foot moving truck, that thing was gutless. Think the 8.1 was pretty tired.

    Interesting blower stuff

I've always wanted to try a twin screw supercharger on a street machine. Supposed to be more efficient and still give that brutal low end torque. I know turbos have allot going for them but I just can't get into them. One of the schemes in the back of my head is to build a jeep Cherokee or...

Best Set-up for plowing, Dream rig

I think the trailering special got you the heavier frame. My truck is an 81 c2500 trailering special and it's frame is beefier than our 1/2 suburban. Also on my option sticker it says heavy duty chassis, and on the title it's actually listed as a 1 ton.

My trucks an 81 and an earlier tach cluster plugged right in, just had to add power, ground, and signal for the tach. I think the two main things to consider are electric vs mechanical speedo and amp vs volt gauge when swapping clusters.

    TBI exhaust

I don't think back pressure itself helps, the more gas you get out of the chamber the better the the next combustion will be. However if the tune isn't adjusted to take advantage of the change it can have adverse affects. I imagine TBI would be more finciy than a carb. I suggest an aggressive...
