I guess I give up on the windows

@PhotonFanatic I replaced the passenger side window motor a few months ago. At the same time I replaced all the window felt/weatherstripping. Like you, I was extremely disappointed. The d***ed thing barely worked, still needed to be helped by hand. After a few drives, some exposure to...

What have you done to your square lately??

Cleaned it, tightened a couple of belts, adjusted the sleeve for my steering (again) and started loading it for our trip to Cruisin the Coast. Supposed to pull out today after lunch. It's already got a Carolina Squat thing going and it's only half of what Mrs. Redfish has to put in the back...

    Need Some Help Here

If this is the truck in your avatar pic, it is going to be worth the effort to get it running right. That is a good looking truck. These early TBI systems are very simple by today's standards. When I was reviving my '87 I eventually replaced most of the components you listed and quite a few...

    Need Some Help Here

Your 1987 does have a way to read the codes in the ECM. A decent shop should be able to do this, you can do it at home if you need to. Hopefully someone will come along that can tell you the procedure but it involves jumping across two pins on the diagnostic port. That is located in the same...

What have you done to your square lately??

Lots of little nitpicking things. New PCV valve, cleaning... One thing that has bothered me since I bought The Truck has been the rust and faded black paint on the rear bumper, the hitch and the ball mount. So I unbolted the hitch, grabbed an old ball mount, got a wire wheel on my drill and...

What have you done to your square lately??

@hoagster I know it is not even close to the right year but my '87 has a plastic "grommet" around the shaft of the release handle.

What have you done to your square lately??

In the ongoing drama of The Leaking Radiator... apparently it was NOT the radiator itself. The heater hose that attaches just below the filler neck was leaking. Because it is a brand new shiny, slick, plastic radiator there was no trace of the anti-freeze anywhere on the radiator itself, just...

What have you done to your square lately??

Drove The '87 about 20 miles with the new radiator. Last night found a substantial puddle of anti-freeze under the passenger front. It may be coming from the bottom hose...but it doesn't look like it. I will be digging into this issue this evening after work. Tomorrow morning I will...

Cruisin the Coast ‘23 - show pics added!

Belongs to my favorite ex-brother-in-law. 1979, 3 speed auto, 403 Olds. Sitting on 14,720 original miles right now. Not fast but really cool. Some pics from last year at Cruisin the Coast:

    Changing brake fluid

Mitey Vac. I love this thing. I wasted my money on a cheap Harbor Freight pneumatic brake bleeder and ended up buying the Mitey Vac to replace it. It works, it's clean, and you don't need two people to bleed the brakes.

Cruisin the Coast ‘23 - show pics added!

Arriving at my rental house just east of Pass Christian late Saturday Sept. 30th and staying through Sunday morning October 8th. Bringing The '87, the gold '79 Trans Am and a black on black Foxbody GT Convertible for the first half of the week.

What have you done to your square lately??

@Camar068 @Soundmound @nvrenuf I really appreciate your advice. I admit you guys surprised me, I didn't expect y'all to advise keeping and rebuilding the original. While I don't really like the plastic tanks, all modern vehicles have them and they seem to hold up just fine. So I wasn't...

What have you done to your square lately??

I have been dealing with a minor leak at the top radiator hose since I bought The Truck. Was pretty sure there was a leak on the other side as well. I KNEW I should not mess with it... I messed with it. Found the top nozzle deformed and flattened. While gently working it back into a round...

What have you done to your square lately??

Getting it ready for Cruisin the Coast which begins October 1st. Changed the oil, all the little things that aren't worth talking about but we have to do. Since I have an Antique license plate I am not required to have a state Inspection Sticker. So I ordered a vintage 1987 Louisiana State...

Do I need different gears with 33” tires and 4” lift

What 4 speed Muncie do you have? I am running 33s with 3.42 gears with an SM465 4 speed. I am fairly happy with it but it was never a dragster before the mud grips. If I were going from the ridiculously tall gears you have I would suggest going to 3.73s.

    Wrong brake calipers?

Are they installed on the correct side? They are a Right and Left fitment.

Whats you gas mileage on your squarebody truck?

Look, I am usually aligned with you but you have definitely crossed a line here. You cannot be telling people that your Cummins diesel isn't getting 20+mpg. It's an absolute fact that whatever diesel truck you have, Ford, Dodge, GM, you MUST tell everyone you are getting 20+mpg at 80mph. It...

    Beauty rings questions

The rings on my '87 4wd have a flat edge on the outside. I recall that the rings on Mom's '84 K10 were exactly the same.

    Narrowing down vibration - questions

Might just be my angle but it almost looks like that may be in the wheel or tire. Have you verified that it is in the drivetrain and not just a wheel/tire balance issue?

    Issues with seatbelts

No, messing with the weight won't help. You have to get your finger above the weight. On top of whatever that weight is hanging from is a small "button". Pressing that button straight down toward the top of that weight always restores my belt to normal operation. Of course you may have other...

    Issues with seatbelts

For some reason Mrs. Redfish manages to mess up the operation of the passenger side seat belt in The '87 every d**n time she rides in it. I first assumed it was because she had to stretch it all the way out to get it around her oversized body... But I think she pulls it so rapidly that she...

Bolts holding power window to regulator miss matched

I think you need to use pop rivets for that. You can use screws if you don't have a rivet gun. I bought a rivet gun since I needed one anyway, they are not expensive.

    4.1 mpg?

Really? A 350 that is able to turn 7K with no issues sounds pretty peppy to me. @Ricko 1966 says " Lets quit arquing about what his milage REALLY IS or couldn't be etc. and help him fix his problems." I don't think we have enough solid, real information to work with here. Is this engine...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Actually...no. That is not what it is for. It provides power to the fuel pump if the primary electrical circuit fails. I thought exactly what you said, but the electrical schematic plainly shows it in parallel, not in series. paging @bucket for an amen...

Cruise control works for a while then starts to lose speed

Y'all are starting to hurt my feelings. I am following this thread because my Cruise Control won't hold unless I am above 50mph and then it won't last very long. And my truck isn't exactly a "city slicker" truck. It does get used but it is a lot nicer truck inside than I expected to find.
