Ready to swap heads and cam
Shouldn't be any real lope, but even with a slight lope I think MPG is only affected in a negative fashion if it idles full time :) it's a very mild cam that I chose along with stock Vortec heads and Q-Jet for all around good truck duty. I definitely don't need to be racing this heavy old...- SmashBack

New vortecs, New Valve train?
I'd look for a new set, or at least a good used set. For peace of mind you'll want comp springs/retainers/keepers. I've got a set (google for this, I can't remember the numbers) that allows you to run around .500 lift without machining. I wouldn't risk the use of z28 springs although they may...- SmashBack

Ok here goes. Just wanted to run this by everybody and make sure I'm not missing anything. No matter how many times I work on my cars, something either goes wrong or I forget something! This is a 79 pickup with a stock rebuilt (probably a few years back) 350, approx 3000 miles on it...- SmashBack

Just bought an 87 with 59K... think I know why it has so few miles on it.
Sounds like a few of the many things that can go wrong with any older car, no big deal. Any time I get one I check the fuel system, brakes, steering, suspension, ignition, fluids...- SmashBack

Hey all, I've searched everywhere and can't figure it out. This is an 79 truck with AC if that makes a difference. Do I need to pull out all that ducting? If so, it's hard to see how it comes out.
