What new tools have you got lately?

Only new to me. Kinda funny how I ran across it though. My church has a thrift store where we sell clothing and housewares super cheap for the needy in the community. The community is pretty good about donating their good, and not so good items so there is a lot of sorting and throwing away...

    1st TBI Conversion Help Needed

@Dougnsalem didn't see your post and it's been a while. I haven't given up but took a little break as it was so dang cold up here it was tough for me to work on it. Still the same symptoms, it will start and run but is almost not driveable due to a severe cut out at around 1000-1500 rpms...

(Seems Like) A Good Price for a Lift

That's an interesting article. That must have really gotten someone at Bendpak wound up.

(Seems Like) A Good Price for a Lift

Here's what we get to stand under for 5 hours on Sunday. I believe its 15k capacity. The small one to the left is a 10k, 2 post asymmetrical Rotary lift.

fair enough. I'll await your post-work dissertation. :)

(Seems Like) A Good Price for a Lift

Agree - I would never install a lift in a "typical" garage floor. I'd cut it out and pour a 24" cubed pylon.

(Seems Like) A Good Price for a Lift

What's that mean? Junk now? What is a good lift? I'm pressing you a bit cause I have a good friend who is a regional Rotary installer and I could probably get a deal on one if I wanted. Are they ok for casual shop use?

@Honky Kong jr what do you think of Atlas and Rotary? Just curious.

    I need a timing light

I did that with a set of Tekton impact sockets. I've had them for three years now. I'm money way ahead.

    I need a timing light

I'm going to advance my timing to see if it will help my horrible stumble. If you've checked out my TBI conversion thread you will know what a disaster this project has been. I was reluctant to change base timing because a lot of resources say to not touch it. I can always put it back if it...

    I need a timing light

I'm far from an expert in running one of these. The flashlight came in really handy when I was checking base timing on my TBI engine...in the dark. I would use the adjustable advance if necessary, but on this particular application base timing is zero.

I bought a Bosch model 7529 and am happy with it. It was around $100.

Are you using r44ts or r42lts? I pulled a couple plugs and they are reading very rich.

    Transfer case trouble or transmission

That sounds like transmission slippage. You said the fluid is at the correct level. How does it look? How does it smell?

    1st TBI Conversion Help Needed

When testing MAP voltages I left the Mityvac attached for about 10 seconds at each level. It held perfectly. I didn't specifically check the throttle shaft, but for as much ether as I've sprayed on the topside of this engine I would think if it were a serious vacuum leak I would have detected...

So for this project I shouldn't view the transmission as anything other than a core for a future rebuild. We like stock transmission destroying torque.

Dumb question here, but how do I know? Of course I can crawl underneath and look, I'm more curious on knowing from the outside by looking at it. I don't have a grasp on the V's, K's, R's and all the other crap nomenclature used on these generations. Certainly willing to learn.

Some background first. My son and I are looking at a 91 Chevy 1500, mainly for the snowplow that is currently attached to it. Owner will not separate the plow and truck. Owner says both engine and trans were "rebuilt", but you know how that goes without any paperwork. Anyway, he currently...
