What is a Beau James Edition?

Ran across this CL ad. Is this legit? https://fargo.craigslist.org/cto/d/1979-chev-1-2-ton-beau-james/6543834139.html

Where do you buy your parts

Seems to vary for me. Not sure if it's my location or not. The business I work for ships thousands of small packages annually so I'm in tune with shipping rates. I buy everything from powersport parts to truck/car stuff, depending on what project my son is working on. Sometimes I'll run...

New trucks are no longer trucks

Methinks there is certainly a tradeoff. I've put so much money in my 2004 I would have been WAY ahead to just buy a new one and take my chances with all the electrical baloney and creature comforts.

4WD High Hump Trans Tunnel Attachment

My 78 has a solid bolt in hump cover. All self tapping bolts. Its been removed before but there was some kind of sealing strip or insulation around the edge.

Where do you buy your parts

I would be suspicious of a part that looks that same and is twice the cost between two sellers. I try to buy from trusted sources and forum supporters when possible, which include all of whom you mentioned. Many online retailers (not referring to anyone specific here) will "hook" you with a...

What new tools have you got lately?

That's true, but it took many birthdays of socks and dress shirts to get to this.

    84 swb fleetside box

Thanks for the pics. I'm not in a huge rush either so let me talk to my son. Yours is in a lot better shape than the one we have. Only difference is the fuel filler. New style is square with a door. I'm sure the box could be modified though.

    Picked this up today finally.

Man that brings back some memories. Growing up my buddy had a trail 70. Rode the crap out of that thing.

is the factory brake proportioning valve tunable?

I used the Summit PV with my rear disc brake conversion. I took me a while to get everything bled but they work great now.

    84 swb fleetside box

I think the only difference might be round hole vs. square hole on gas tank covers. pictures would be great.

    84 swb fleetside box

As the title says....anybody got a clean one? Doesn't have to be perfect, but obviously no filler and minimal rust repair needed.

New trucks are no longer trucks

We are one of the fattest and most unhealthy of all industrialized countries. Where's the mini-winch and harness to pull the driver up into the bed...God forbid they have to climb in and unload something.

    Full Coverage Insurance

Probably depends on the state and carrier. When I had my GN insured as a collectible I had driving age kids in the house and it wasn't a problem. That was State Farm in both SD and MN.

    Gear/Tire Size/Motor/Tranny Combo

I see your point. But why not just build up everything behind the crankshaft? From what I can tell the 14 bolt won't be a weak link, so what would be? The driveshaft and TC? When I look at the gearing/rpm tables, it looks like a 4.10 gear puts my cruise speed at about 2200 rpms, which...

    Gear/Tire Size/Motor/Tranny Combo

Help me understand this part. I thought third gear on a Th400 was 1:1? In the calculator that results in 2037 RPM with 3.73 gears and 40" tires at 65MPH.

    Gear/Tire Size/Motor/Tranny Combo

That's precisely what I'm wrangling with in this equation. I expect 500+ lb./ft of torque so I think a guy can give up some gear.

    Gear/Tire Size/Motor/Tranny Combo

I often see parts of the above addressed, but I'm trying to determine a rear end/tire size combo that will fit the engine/tranny combo we plan for the 84 swb. Engine will be a BB for sure, likely a stroked 427T mated to a TH400. Tire size will be either 38 or 40. I'm going back and forth on...

    1st TBI Conversion Help Needed

Changed out the MAP sensor...no change in symptoms. Probably going to replace the coil next. Yep, just throwing parts at it now.
