    Floor Stress Cracks

Although I didn't check the underside, I'm pretty sure they are a through crack. I'll double check though.

    Floor Stress Cracks

Sorry these pics don't show the crack in the overall space well. Found them in the floor, in the right rear corner of driver's floor pan, up on the hump to floor pan connection. Symetrical crack on passenger side. Is this a common fatigue point? If not, what the heck would have caused this?

    Tuff Country Lift Kit Experience

Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm even more sorry that it appears I'm about to fall into the same situation with Tuff Country. Wish I would have read this post sooner. More to come soon, I'll hold judgment pending on how they handle my situ.

    Trans/Transfer Case Combo Opinions Needed

Probably not enough rock crawling to warrant that, but Kyle and I did discuss that option. I have found a core 27 spline 205 and what is supposed to be a 32 spline 205. So I'm feeling better about that, as I had done quite a bit of looking for the 205 and hadn't much luck locating one.

    Trans/Transfer Case Combo Opinions Needed

I've had a number of conversations with Kyle at Offroad Design. Super helpful guy, I will definitely do some future business with them. He said they can take a 27 spline 205 and convert it to the 32 spline to match up the 4l80e. Just takes some machine work to the case. I thought that was a...

    Trans/Transfer Case Combo Opinions Needed

I spoke with Atlas. They were really helpful, and thought their "race" class transfer case would hold up to that torque level....but that's a whole lotta cryin up front, man! I have to believe someone out there has built a 205 to handle similar torque for a lot less than what an Atlas cost.

    Trans/Transfer Case Combo Opinions Needed

frankly I'm not locked in to a 241. The truck had a 700R4/208, which isn't going to work for this build. Maybe I should just go with a 32 spline 205?

Thanks, but I need a passenger side drop.

    Trans/Transfer Case Combo Opinions Needed

Targeting 700hp in a 496. Pretty sure I want a 4l80e for OD and can be built to handle that power. Looks like the NP241c is a unicorn and not likely to find. What do you guys think of 205 vs. 208 for this combo? 4.11 gears with 35 or 37" tires. Some trail and rock crawling, otherwise just...

rebuild 700r4 or 4180e for my carb-350 sbc

I am pursuing a similar setup with matching a 4l80e to np241c. Build will be about 700hp so I'm not sure there are any cheap options, lol. Regarding the gear question, though, if I'm running 35" tires and 4.10 gears, if that steep enough to overcome the downside to 4l80e's 1st gear?

    Fool me once…..

I guess it's probably my writing style. But honestly, I'm not uptight, upset, resentful, disappointed, or whatever adjective people want to throw related to the opinions on this thread. The only thing I was disappointed in was the quality of work, period. I have been around long enough to know...

    Fool me once…..

Sorry, I didn't think any of that was relevant. Now if I had called the guy out by name and address, that's a different story. I'm sorry you want all the juicy details. In fact there aren't any, so sorry to disappoint you. I'm expecting to have a great New Year, thanks for the well...

    Fool me once…..

You wanna see the text exchanges and hear the call audio where I shared how I felt about the work? Gimme a break. Other than getting the job done quickly, if you could call it that, there wasn't any positive interactions. Owner said he would take it back and clean up. I decided to fix it...

    Fool me once…..

Other shop's biz has grown (surprise, huge demand for quality craftsmanship, lol) and I wanted it done sooner than a month out. Again, I know the "new" guy, and had no idea it would turn out this way. ....like the post title says, right?

    Fool me once…..

Perhaps, but he didn't even use the right technique. Specified TIG multiple times. And he MIG'd it. Honestly, I don't know how you even let something like that out of your shop. If it were mine I'd be embarrassed as hell and not let it go to the customer.

Lifestyles of The Rich & Famous

I don't understand it, and don't like it either, but the high end restoration truck market has absolutely exploded in the last couple years. I've seen several restored bumpside Fords bring 6 figures on auction.

    Fool me once…..

agree, but its not a structural weld. I only wanted done on the truck axles to prevent oil leakage, which had started on the plugs. The 8.8 Ford is a different issue though, which have been known to spin in the center sections under high torque. That was a structural weld...and pretty too!

    Fool me once…..

I had an Explorer 8.8 center section TIG welded for another build, and it turned out beautiful.

    Fool me once…..

So I dropped off my axles to have the tubes welded and center section plugs filled. I specified TIG because it wanted it to look clean. I sent it to a young fella trying to get his fab business up and running. Mechanical engineer by trade, good guy. This is what I got back. It looks so...

    Pinion Angle

Anyone know the stock pinion angle on a K10 swb? I could see the spring perches had been replaced on the 14 bolt we picked up. Leveled the axle on jack stands and checked the angle. Seemed very steep to me. We removed spring perches cause they were roached out, and are going to use this as...

    Axle housing plugs

Cleaning up a 14 bolt and Dana 44. Both center sections were leaking through tube plugs. Looks like someone attempted to weld them. They look like garbage so going to have them cleaned up and Tigged. None of the welds fully penetrated or filled the plug hole.

    SWB/Lift/Driveline Considerations

How much is too much pinion angle? Is it possible to starve pinion bearings of oil if the angle is too steep? The spring perches on my 14 bolt are pretty roached out so thought about removing them and replacing with a new set at a custom angle for this setup. Anyone else done this?
