    A knock, maybe?

I did disconnect the wire before setting the initial timing. Not sure what the guy used for break in oil. I'm thinking he used regular oil, not 100% sure though. But, he did prime it he told me. The oil looked good, no shavings or anything like that.

    A knock, maybe?

Thanks everyone! As mentioned with timing, I have it on 0° according to the sticker is why. Seems as though the computer adjusts the timing anyway usually to about 12 or 14. I bought the engine from advanced Auto. The guy who put it in basically just replaced the engine. I always premium gas 89...

    A knock, maybe?

Thanks for your response. I've got the timing at zero. I have advanced it all the way to 10. I've tried different octanes of gas. Even put some non ethanol in it. Still does it. The sound or knock is annoying. The truck does run really well. I've thought about retarding the timing a little...

    A knock, maybe?

Need some opinions. Got about 600 miles on my new engine. Runs great. Idles great. It's a stock 350 TBI in my 87 Silverado. When you put a load on it going down the road it just sounds like it's knocking. When I say 'load' just mean when I accelerate, give it gas. I just feel if it was rods or...

No vacuum advance on my truck. I went back with the TBI. Thanks for all the advice. This is great.

Not sure what you mean...lol The old lines came out of each exhaust manifold. We didn't plug them good enough.

    New engine quirks

Thanks for all the advice. The chirping sound was an exhaust leak. I plugged up the emissions ports, just not good enough... Lol... Purring like a cat now!

I have learned to set it. I've seen a lot of different opinions on what to set it on. Sticker under hood says 0. Just getting some advice. Thanks everyone

    New engine quirks

My uncle set the valves according to a step by step in a manual he showed me. He's done this stuff his whole life. I'm just now getting into all this at 49, a little late to the party... Lol I was leaning towards an exhaust leak. May try some of the things you guys are advising to me. We had...

    New engine quirks

My uncle has been helping me along with things. We set the timing at ’0’. It starts right up, no problems there. Idles great, and we just changed the fuel pump this past Friday, now it really runs good. Just the noises are annoying as hell.

    New engine quirks

So, I'm new here, go easy on me...lol I just replaced my 305 in my 87 Silverado with a stock 350. Everything is good with the engine. I'm now chasing some chirps, some minor knocking, mainly when I accelerate. Idles like a boss sounds very smooth. All the rockers were set after engine was put...
