Reverse lights on 85 1 ton that was converted to auto

I've been there too, lol. Assuming the factory switch is on the column, it should be same amount of effort to wire it up as it would be to wire up a toggle switch...and you cant forget to turn them off if you use the column switch.

    14 bolt-dana 70 dually axle differences

crazy4offroad is right, there are a ton of differences depending on what vehicle the axle came from. But if you can fabricate brackets/tab/mounts, then really the only criteria you need to concern yourself with is the WMS - WMS dimension (Wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

I have used different types of grease over the years. During my most recent axle rebuild I used a generic "wheel bearing grease". I usually lather some grease on the spindle, pack the bearings, and slop a bunch into the hub. I wouldn't sweat it if you get some grease on the threads of the...

    Shifter retainer sm465

I swapped from the cast iron top cover to the aluminum top cover, and my original shifter retainer parts worked. I think you'll be fine.

    79 k30 steering rebuild

I have run 2 different axles under the front of my suburban, neither with a steering stabilizer, and I have not had any death wobble. I never had an issue when I was running my 10 bolt on worn out stock springs. Now I'm running a Dana 60 with new 2" springs and don't have any wobble. I...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

My mistake! I misread it on the first post of your build. Definitely can't rule out a stretched chain then (unfortunately). Also, I re-read your build and noticed that you had some extensive work done to your rear diff due to worn out bearings. Makes me wonder if you have similar wear to...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

Don't want to speak for the OP, but it looks like he had some pretty good work done on both drive shafts this year (judging by the photos on page 3 of his build thread).

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

Just read through your build thread...impressive work so far! Ignore my question from before. It looks like you have put plenty of miles on that truck in 4wd, so I am assuming your gears are matched front and rear. That being said, if it were me, I would put the truck on jack stands, all 4...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

Do you know for a fact that your front and rear axles are geared the same? Have you used your 4wd before? I bought my burb with mismatched gears (unknowingly). Never had a need to put it in 4wd until the first snow rolled though. I found out real quick when it started bucking and jerking...

    79 k30 steering rebuild

Balancing your tires is definitely a good thing to do at this point. It is very possible that an out of balance tire, or worn out tire could cause this wobble. I hope this fixes the problem for you. If it doesn't, the next thing I would check would be wheel bearings. Lift the truck up, and...

    Off road carb setup

Just kidding, kind of. Propane may be a little unnecessary for the average person and the occasional wheeling trip...BUT, you could go with a dual fuel setup like this: http://www.gotpropane.com/p539.html. I run propane on my dedicated rock crawler, and there is no substitute at extreme...

    79 k30 steering rebuild

^ Agreed. I have bought a bunch of stuff from them also. I have found their website to be a good list of upgrades to do along the way. But if you search around, you can find very similar products and kits for considerably cheaper in some cases.

    Pricing out a paint job

I guess my comment was meant to be more general in nature, to convey the point that labor costs considerably more than material, and that when it comes to painting anything, it's all about the prep. I have no doubt that material prices have increased, but so have labor rates. When you're...

    Pricing out a paint job

The cost isn't in the tools or materials to actually paint the vehicle. The cost is in the labor to do the prep work. If you're going to do all the body work and prep yourself, it doesn't matter where you take it for paint, the cost should be relatively similar.

    Pricing out a paint job

The average body shop makes their living doing body work and paint for insurance claims. Your average Joe doesn't typically wake up one day and say "I should go get my truck painted today". I had a shop tell me that all they do is insurance work, and they wouldn't even pull my suburban into the...

    from 4wd to 2wd

I second this. You are talking about a big headache to try to get the 2wd front suspension on a 4wd frame. Dimensions will be slightly different where the motor mounts and engine crossmember are. Nothing is going to line up identically from 2wd to 4wd frame. There will be a lot of figuring...

    Steering hydro assist

The factory push-pull steering setup seems to work okay for stock ride height and tire size, but once you start to lift it and put bigger tires on it, the steering leaves a lot to be desired. I know you have sunk a good bit of money into new steering parts, but if you really want to improve the...
