    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

I can't speak specifically to the pickup truck frames, but the suburban frames definitely differ from 2wd to 4wd. You are probably best served by looking into the companies that have been previously suggested: Offroad Design and DIY4X. Also take a look at Cut Brothers, LLC. They have not been...

GM NV4500 Bellhousing, Release Bearing and Clutch Kit

    NV4500 Swap - Clutch/Hydraulics Dilemma

I hear ya. If this was a farm/woods/trail truck, I would definitely leave the stout SM465/NP205 combo in it. I would actually really like to keep the 205 in it with the new transmission. But another $600 for an adapter is not in the cards. I got a low mileage, good condition NP241c for a...

    NV4500 Swap - Clutch/Hydraulics Dilemma

Awesome. I will give them a call just to see if there is anything else they need to sell me. Then I'll probably search around for the best price on those kits. Summit has traditionally done me right on price, free shipping, and because they have a warehouse in ATL, I usually get my order next...

    NV4500 Swap - Clutch/Hydraulics Dilemma

Ahh, so you would drill/tap the front of the transmission to match the existing holes in the SM465 bellhousing in lieu of the other way around...yeah, I don't want to do that. Just to make sure, this is the bellhousing kit I think I need 712576 : Chevy V8 & V6 to the 1996 & up GM version...

    NV4500 Swap - Clutch/Hydraulics Dilemma

I'm glad you guys chimed in! I knew you both were working on this recently. As much as it pains me to say it, you're both probably right about the AA bellhousing. I tried to avoid going that route for the simple fact that I think AA is WAY too proud of their stuff. It definitely seems like...

    NV4500 Swap - Clutch/Hydraulics Dilemma

Best I can tell, they were put in GM trucks up to 2007. But I'm no expert on the history of the NV4500. I just knew that I wanted a 96 and up version.

    Optima Batteries worth the cost?

I've had good experience with Optima batteries, newer and older versions (now they'll probably all crap out on me tomorrow!). I currently have 2 yellow tops in my suburban, 2 red tops in my rock crawler, and 3 blue tops in my boat. My suburban and rock crawler both have dual battery isolators...

    NV4500 Swap - Clutch/Hydraulics Dilemma

I've talked about doing this for a while, and am finally getting around to putting an overdrive transmission in my truck. I know there have been a number of NV4500 swaps done over the years, and I really didn't want to start a whole new thread about this, but I couldn't find my specific...

    "The Highway Hauler"

The biggest "problem" I've had with my 454/sm465/np205 combo when towing is the wide range between gears, especially on hills. I have 3.73 gears in my axles and have run 33" and 35" tires. With no trailer, it runs the highway and all over town perfectly. I'd even say on flat highway, it pulls...

3 speed manual with Low gear, hard to shift into low gear

And just so we're on the same page here: This is the shift knob. It designates L-1-2-3-R. I use L and 1 as interchangeble terms for the 1st available gear. Then I call them 2-3-4-R

3 speed manual with Low gear, hard to shift into low gear

Do not rev. RPMs will not help you here. This is the sequence I use: (all done at a complete standstill) Push the clutch in and shift into 2. Keep the clutch pushed in and try to shift into low. If it doesn’t immediately go into gear, keep a little pressure on the shifter, and take a little...

    Exhaust for tbi

Mine's a 454 TBI. I just replaced my old cracked and leaking factory manifolds with new replacement manifolds. I have the factory y-pipe with a simulated catalytic converter (because no emissions testing on pre-96 vehicles in NC) and a flowmaster RV style muffler. She idles nice and low, and...

3 speed manual with Low gear, hard to shift into low gear

What they all said. Low (1st, granny gear, whatever you want to call it) is a straight cut gear while 2, 3 and 4 are all syncronized gears. You must shift into 2, 3, or 4, and be at a stand still before shifting into low (or reverse).

    Suburban Bucket Seat Bracket

No clue. If I had to guess, I'd say probably not. The suburbans have a hump in the floor that may or may not be the same in your truck.

    Tires and Beadlock Wheels

Couldn't figure out how to edit my original post, but I wanted to update this thread. I still have these. They are just sitting in my shop taking up space, and I would like to get them out of my way. The Iroks are actually 39.5x13.5x17 (not 15" wheel). Also, I removed one of the Allied...

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

Bringing this back up. Did you ever find something to work on the rear barn doors? I'm going to get some pex for the 4 doors today, but was wondering if anyone has done something similar to the barn doors.

Is there market for used winches?

Where in NC are you? I'm in Charlotte. Depending on price, I might be interested in it. I currently have 4 Warn winches. I sure I could find a use for another.

35 inch tire with 3.73 gear

http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html Play around with this spreadsheet. For what it's worth, the setup you have is essentially what I'd like to end up with for towing purposes (minus the 5.3...I'll stick with the big block). If you don't tow, I think 4.10 would be a comfortable ratio for...
