That sounds fun. I just did a compression calculator assuming stock bore and stroke, 64cc vortecs, 12.5cc dish pistons, and a .041 compressed gasket thickness and il be squeezing 10.6! Is there any way I could bump it down a point? Id be open to running different heads with larger 76cc chambers...

Yikes, yea lol that sounds a bit counter productive to 75% of the work I've done to the truck

That's great advice thank you, would you recommend running a stall in a daily c10? Ive never played around with cams and stall converters, my stock converter in my 700r4 is a 1400 stocker

I love the cam suggestions, defiantly some good stuff to look into, I probably won't go with anything over .45 lift, @4WDKC makes a good point about the cost to build a set of heads from scratch, so il probably just keep an eye out for some decent vortecs for now

I get that. What are some good companies to look at for bearings and such? I figure now il just save all the money I can over summer and start stock pilling basics like bearings and gaskets while I search for a block

You make a really good point there about cost. Il probably end up doing vortecs, a 5.7 rod (or 6 but I don't want to get fancy with the cam). But that's why im starting it now rather than when the 350 goes out. What should a machine shop charge for a basic refresh on a block? I've never had to...

Il decide on those rods once I find my short block. Defiantly something to think a out but I don't think il really need it for what il be using the truck for. Its just a cruiser. I checked out the "retro roller cam" and its not too bad a price! Would those lifters work even without the spider...

    Coolant wtff?

Its worth a shot, mine just stays right at 180, im using the stock gauge tho

    Coolant wtff?

Yup, get a 16 pound cap if this one blows, that's what works for me and I've done all the same

    Th400 bracket ???

As long as everything is well supported I wouldn't worry too much, maybe try looking through some old manuals for that year and see if you can find it, this site has a great collection of them

    Th400 bracket ???

A pic of where it went would help, I've never seen it before

Ah that makes more sense, would I get a bigger displacement with 6" rods?

    Worst rust?

I love the rusty headers, really completes the look

I have 2.5 inch dual exhaust coming off my manifolds, so if I do headers I should be good there. And I like that rpm very much. 400s were made from 70 to 80 so I'm not sure if they have the bosses for a roller cam, but if it does il look into it. I think if i don't skimp on oil i should be ok...

    Worst rust?

Poor thing, at least its been used well. We don't get much here in as but if you're handy with a welder, lmc sells all sorts of patch panels

High teens! Im very interested. I have 3.08s with 31 inch tires, and a 700r4. And il be sure to drill those steam holes. Headers are the last thing I want to do to the truck before I ditch the 350 lol

Nice read, I'll have to find a good machine shop here in az first and price stuff out, and find a short block lol

    Planning summer small block build

I figure il just haunt craigslist and the local yards until I find a 400 block and assembly. Hopefully I can resuse the stock assembly, and MAYBE try to ballance it myself. Im in no rush since the 350 in the truck is still running reliably. The name of the game for me is cheap, and since I have...

    Fan Blows went switched off

Its normal, my 78 does it too. I didn't know why until I went through the wiring, its just set up so it always runs really slowly to keep some air circulation

    Planning summer small block build

I just dropped a 700r4 into my 78 c10, and now that its working like a dream(thank you to all that helped), I'd like to turn my attention to my motor. I've got a reman 350 that has smogger heads and 15 psi of oil pressure when hot, so I figure while its ok to daily, there's room for...

Hmph, that may explain why my a.c. isn't always 100%, could you find me a picture so I can try to find one?

Do they go between your manifold and the vacuum resovior? Is it required? I don't have one
  25. Obwonkonobe

    Whistle noise

Vacuum leak, try spraying carb cleaner very lightly around common leak places and see if it accelerates, if it does that's your leak because it sucks it in. Just be EXTREMLY careful and watch for flames, have an extinguisher. Also be sure all the little outlets on the carb are plugged if they're...
