    Crazy Air Compressor Idea

I rebuilt two 1957 Ingersoll Rand compressors, for a combined cfm of 40. One was 17 the other a 23. I ran a hose from one to the other with a check valve in it. It ran my blaster with a 3/16 nozzle good enough but another 10 or 20 cfm’s would have been best. There’s a company in Cal. that...

    Crazy Air Compressor Idea

That might have been a Smith. I used to have one, it worked really good but I couldn’t find a carb for it so I scrapped it. Now I wish I had it, as it really was reliable. Had a Ford 289 I think. I might just see if I can find one on EBay. I thought it was too complicated to fix it if...

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Ricko, I did follow Grit dog’s advice from # 7 and 8. # 5 was my post. Sorry I misunderstood your post # 11, which #14 clarified, but I decided not to check the amount of wear on the lobe because (a) That plate was glued down too good and (b) it was too darn cold. And I didn’t need to use...

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Rusty Nail read my posts. I said I heated a brand new pump. It had no fuel in it. Your other false assumption was that heat caused the leak. If you had read my post you would know the leak was around the threaded line going to the carb. I only heated the other two ports. Don’t make...

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

For the record: putting the timing mark on the balancer up can put the cam in either of two positions since the cam only makes one revolution to every two the crank makes. So if the mark is up and the pump isn’t close in, turning the crank one more revolution will put the cam where you want it...

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Hey Rusty Nail, you’ve been putting out BS on this. I tried your “ force it” method long before you suggested it because it has sometimes worked on other motors. However the fact is that when the cam lobe is high on the lever the bolts don’t even reach the holes. If you used longer bolts...

    31 gallon tank conversion pictures

Nice. My 79 had no spare tire hanger. Would have grabbed the Z struts the tank on the 75 burb had hung from if I would have put it there. Might later. Where did you put the spare?

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Thanks! I forgot there was that plate there. I’ll see how worn that cam is. Ordered a Delphi 3 line pump from Summit. Part # DFP-MF 0002. 20 bucks

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Do you know about that bolt in the block that’s 1” long? If you take it out you can put one of the pump bolts in that hole and finger tighten it to the pushrod. I tried the pushrod but it wasnt stiff enough. Maybe because the oil is so thick at 0 degrees.

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Thanks for the great tips. I have installed it three times now. First one I took off and exchanged for one with a return port. That one had the ports pointing towards the chassis rail making it impossible to connect the hoses, (3/8” not so flexible). So took it off, and turned them about 30...

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

Just opened the picture. Thanks again but I’m looking for an electric. Altho I’d consider trying to install my mechanical one more time if it could be done easier. I’ve done it 3 times but haven’t been able to get the cam on tdc yet. I see the mark on the harmonic balancer but no indicator...

Need a inline fuel pump for Carbed 350, what brand/ part?

My mechanical new pump on my 79 with original 350 is not working out. I’ve read several comments on the unreliability of electric pumps so would like to know if there’s a good pump I could use. I’m planning on mounting it after the tank. Inside the rail. Also, it seems to me those pushrods...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

This is all great info, very helpful. I do know one guy who put a LS in a 83 and he pretty much agrees it’s not so much for mileage or power but just for the added reliability and to extend the life of a good old simple truck. The 350s are getting old. Some guys just hate to scrap them. I...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

Thanks, not quite. I’ve been talking about 4x4 2500. this is the site that I sourced to get the specs for a 02 2500 4x4 with a 6.0 I saw on Craigslist. That was listed at 11 mpg highway.

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

Thanks for clarifying. No argument, ( not that arguments are bad things) I’ll clarify my comments which agree with yours. I meant that I won’t cause an accident because I don’t drive drunk, for one thing. I could’ve added I won’t be without insurance, either. On the two tanks with transfer...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

It seems to me, but I am no expert, that fire is maybe less the risk than an explosion. Fumes in a container with a little gasoline with a spark is more like a bomb than a fire. I should probably google about the risk on the Chevy trucks. Pretty slow Internet here tho. As to liability, yes...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

Thanks. I’ve watched a few YouTube vids on it and with that kind of help plus this forum it seems not too difficult. I have a decent machine shop for it. Also considering just buying a early 2000s 2500with a 6.0 and a five speed. But the drivetrains aren’t hard to come by either. I will...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

I think the Suburbans also came with a 40 gallon rear tank. I may end up getting one some day. They’re available from LMC etc. Probably what I should have done. Just like having my spare there. Not many good alternatives for spares on a flatbed. It was in front of the engine but that’s a...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

Thanks, agree all around. There are pros and cons whichever. I am not so averse to using two. I’d prefer a manual valve but if they’re not available, yes just replace them often enough. But you don’t mention safety. I’ve been rear ended twice and sideswiped once ( parked). One rear...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

I know I need overdrive, just don’t know which engine to look for. Or which engine/tranny combo, that is. I need lots of torque. Not that worried about mileage, but it’s preferred. I like to blast throo snow drifts with four chained wheels. And I’m tired of trying to start diesels below...

Yes, this tank is way away from the axle. And about 6” above the driveshaft. Thanks for the heads up
