    speedo questions

Ok. Question. It looks like this tail shaft is going to have to get resealed sooner than later. So I might as well fix the speedo. Is the gears for the speedo only dependent on final gear ratio? Does he cluster not play any part in it?

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Fuuuuuck me. Ok. 1. I'm retarded. I really am. I never though timing this damn thing would be so hard. It took two of us, but at least with another hand, I could actually find TDC of the compression stroke. 2. We tried multiple ways to get this timed at 16° but with the vacuum pod, my base...

    What is my ratio?

That looks like a casting number for the rear end itself. Now Im not a rear guru, but, the rear ends used to be tagged on one of the cover bolts, but it being 37 years old, thats not there. I think the only way you will be able to know is to count the ring and pinion gear teeth.

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Im having an old shop buddy come by tomorrow after work. This way I have another tech help me to make sure I get this timed. One I KNOW its in time, then I can verify the problem is somewhere else. If all else fails, we are going to jump the truck and verify voltage/amperage isnt the issue.

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

I did this, and there is a picture of it being right at TDC. And I have used 3 distributors. What are the odds all three are bad? I was told to not do this shit, as this is what I have done before. The day the wife gets on a car forum, actually reads anything, and doesnt glaze over, will be...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

compression and cranking sound normal. And it cranks strong. So I know compress is good and cranking is too. And I guess the part that has me scratching my head is that on the first crank, it could misfire but at least acts like its firing and going to start. Every time after the first time...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

This is what we have been saying. The oil pump shaft isn't lined up correctly and with my gut surgeries, I canNOT climb into the engine bay and lay down and turn the shaft. I can get a screw driver in the hole but without being able to see what I'm doing, I have no idea what it's pointed to...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

As you can see, the pink wire goes to the weird white connector. The other wire goes to a fuseable link buttttt since I'm only getting a 2 volt drop during cranking, neither of those wires are bad.

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Sooooo The only thing I'm wondering now is if the battery is bad. I guess I could take it to AutoZone and find out.

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Ok. So tonight with pictures. I put the engine at TDC and I assume on compression. Then took note of what would be cyl 1. Installed #1 spark plug. Wired up spark plug wires as to what would be #1. Tried to start and it sound like it was about to turn over but just misfired a few times...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

No. This happened with the original dist with a crank and no start. So I go the 1st reman and that started right up the first time and then I dicked up ever thing... I think. This problem could be intermittent. As in, it fires on a cold start but after cranking or running for a minute, it doesnt...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Dont get me wrong, Id rather do that too. But if its not too hard to depin from the bulk head, I have the tool for it. And I dont believe there is enough wire to get pinched down there or that it hangs on to anything. I just noticed the other day there is a pink and purple wire and they both...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Ok... so I havent worked on the truck in a few days. I have settled down and thought about it, I havent tested the voltage while starting. Im wondering if while starting I am getting a voltage drop in the wiring. I saw that some of the sheathing has been stripped or worn off the pink wire. I...

    Ignition HELP! [solved]

Ok.... So I took some time and looked at the wiring diagrams (thank god for whoever got them on this board, b/c the chilton manual is a mess). And it looks like, as told, that the power to the dist is just the #3 circuit. It goes from the fuse block to the bulk head, to the dist. And that's it...
