Will this cluster backing plate fit my 73?

I don't know the specifics of how the wires are arranged(pinned) in the cluster plug but I do know that the 73-75 clusters with gauges are pinned different than the 76-77, 78-87 as well as the clusters not equipped with gauges are pinned different. If you were installing a tach cluster 73-75 and...

Will this cluster backing plate fit my 73?

Will it physically fit in your dash...yes will it work with the way your plug is pinned....no will it work with your wiring harness....no... you will have to repin your plug plus ad wire for what will be an electrical oil pressure gauge instead of mechanical. You need to do a lot of research...

    I would buy stock replacements.

    2/4 drop wheel sizing

If you are only going to drop 2in in the front you really dont "need" drop spindles, you can save some $$$ and just cut one round off the stock springs. Below is a before and after pics of a 2in spring drop. What diameter wheels do you want to run?

    Compatible rear end for 73

LOL, yeah my van knowledge is lacking at best.

    Compatible rear end for 73

A Ferd Astro van rear end? You should look for another 12 bolt truck rear end that will bolt right up or fix the one you have then do a disc brake conversion. I think i read somewhere that a impala or caprice rear disc set will work.

    19 inch wheel question

What front crossmember and control arms do you have? Your going to be digging up pavement at 7in on a stock front suspension.

Does the kit come with rear shock extenders? Western Chassis makes the best shock extenders, make sure you get those too.

Cool! You should have 2.5in clearance after the flip....no notch needed. Your not a pita. Lol....thanks Cob.

Picked up 2 brand new OEM door panels.

If they are nos and havent ever been installed they are worth over $300....probably more.

Close but not quite accurate, one round cut yields a 2in to 2.25in spring drop, that combined with a 2.5in spindle will be 4.5in to 4.75in drop. You need to cut 3/4 round for a 1in spring drop but it is difficult to get the spring to go back in straight.

The WC 3.5/5in kit is a great choice, its a quality kit, goid for dailydriving too. You need 5.25in from the top of the leaf spring to the bottom of the frame. To break it down that is 2in suspension travel, 3in for the axle tube, and 1/4in for the flip bracket. I stated this in the past post...

This is my 82 before I tubbed it. 5in flip with no c-notch. You need at least 2in minimum clearance for suspension travel, as you can see I had 3.5in at ride height. My 78 daily driver has a flip kit and no c-notch with about 2.5in clearance for susp travel.

NEWB with lots of lowering questions.

You need a minimum of 5.25in at ride height between the bottom of the frame(not the bottom of the bump stop mount) and the top of the leaf spring to do a 5in flip without needing a c-notch. Anything less will I would recommend a c-notch. A 5in flip kit is easier because its basically less work...

NEWB with lots of lowering questions.

    1. Yes, you can use 3in drop spindles with wheels larger than 15in. 2. Thats an inaccurate measurement because the fender lip is higher in the front than the rear. Use the body line instead. 3. You will have to cut the rivets that hold on the original spring hangers and you will have to notch...

Advice on drop before I order

Western Chassis, Bell Tech, CPP, McGaughys are all good kits. Me personally I like CPP spindles and Western Chassis flip brackets(with gussets) and shock extenders. You don't have to notch with a flip kit if you have at least 5.25in between the frame and the top of the leaf spring at ride...

Advice on drop before I order

I would do a 2.5in spindle and 1in drop spring and a flip in the rear, that will give you a 3.5/5in drop and it will reduce the factory "rake" from 2in to .5in. It might cost a little more but well worth the money. FWIW, a 4in drop in the rear is a pita if you dont have the right tools to get...

    Adding a tach question

I believe these clusters are from a 76-77 because of the hole for a mechanical oil pressure gage and the three prong volt gauge location. The lower left gauge position appears to be for a brake warning light. Your cluster may be different in that spot if equipped with a clock.

    Adding a tach question

The plastic case (cluster housing)for a tach is different than a cluster housing equipped with gauges(large fuel and small gauges/clock) and is also different that a base cluster housing with warning lights. You also need to verify that your pin out on the cluster plug is correct and compatible...

77 Chevy c20 picup electrical problems help please

Where did you get the new printed circuit? You either have a poor/bad ground connection at the back of the gauge cluster or somehow installed an incorrect printed circuit. That's my guess.
