Anyone Ever replace a Firewall Insulation Pad ??

    What an absolute, royal PIA..........

    Replacing Firewqll Insulation

Ahhhhh, the classic "Reverse procedure to install." Won't exactly work in this instance...the old one is coming out in chunks, and it is difficult to get the replacement to tear in exactly the same manner as the original........

    Replacing Firewqll Insulation

Have any y'all replaced the jute insulation on the firewall? My '84 C-10 has the heater box and ductwork removed, and a new pad received from good ol' LMC So, how big of a job is it? Do I need to remove the fuse box, pedal bracket, and...................???? Or, are there shortcuts??

    84 C-10 w/Heater Box Defroster Door

I have seen pictures of the defroster damper door having a sheet of foam rubber pad on it. But in the excellent sticky of heater box photos, there is only a strip at the end away from the actuator. This would prevent a metal on plastic slap when closing, but not completely seal off the opening...

    Heater Damper Linkage

Thanks to that wonderful sticky with all the pix, I see that I have my damper door linkage correct. But, it is not terribly secure.....can I add any nuts to the rod to maintain its position in the clip, or is it designed to be a floating fit??

    84 C-10 A/C Evap Housing

Is there a company who can supply both pieces of the A/C evaporator Housing?? I may be able to salvage the half which houses the blower motor, but the one closer to the engine is gonna be a trickier fix. Are these available new anywhere, or will they be salvage yard items ??

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

Actually, I was incorrect on my tranny...it is a Muncie M-20 out of a 68 or so Vette The ID is achieved by seeing how many grooves there are around the input shaft spline. Other than that, dunno. The M20 is a tad wider in range, but not much. As for my choice of 4 or 5 speed, I want the feel of...

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

They used to was back in the 90's.......... Dunno if they are even still around. As for the transverse front spring....you had to cur openings in the cross member for the spring to pass thru, and plates to guide the spring and provide fulcrum points. It was pretty slick. Heavier f&r sway bars...

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

Tremec has TKO and TKX 5-speed trannys good to 600 lbft (ftlb?) of torque, and a reasonable 1st gear 2.75 or something of the sort.....close ratio anyway.....

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

On a side note, I installed kevlar composite rear leaf springs and a transverse kevlar composite spring on the front with tubular control arms and stiffer shocks all around....... It was kinda like riding on a brick, but you could slide corners with practically zero lean..... Suspension parts...

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

I would say the M-21 could handle everything except heavy towing. The 3.73 will ease the strain on the tranny anyway. they were in Verres et al back in the day and can handle the HP and torque, and, as the C10 is much lighter in the rear, I would have no problem with hauling a bedful...... but...

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

I had one years ago which I had planned to install into a '79 Z28, but other stuff got in the way and I sold it. It seemed like a good idea at the time........

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

I was in my heyday in the 60's and 70's, when the close range 4 speed was the way to go fast.... Never really left that behind. Benefits are purely subjective. Poppin' an M21 into the C10 was no biggie...remove the TH350, change flywheel, install pilot bearing, clutch & PP, bell housing, and...

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

Not up on the AR5. Will need to research......Thanks. AR5 has way too deep 1st gear, at 3.75 or 3.95. Makes 1st gear useless....and turns it onto a wide ratio 4 speed......... Tremec TKX may be the ticket, but probably gonna be pricey....

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

Clutch is mechanical linkage, but converting to hyd would not be all that difficult....

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

Nope. No "truck" things,,,just toolin' around, but may need to do some highway driving.... I had heard thet NV trannys are not too good for quick shifts.....

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

That has been my philosophy. I'm afraid I'll see sub 10mpg, but really have no basis for that. Truck originally has 3.08 open diff, and I installed 3.73 posi

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

I have already replaced the TH350 with a Muncie M21 4-speed in my '84 C10. But, I fear that mileage is gonna suck with 3.73 rear ratio. I have always wanted a 5 or 6 speed with OD, but they are not cheap these days. Gonna have to handle about 400HP What recommendations do y'all have? Is the...

Stepside Fender to Bed Seam Sealant

They were all bolted together, then a seam sealer/caulk applied, then painted. But, I'd need to verify thet there is not color paint under the caulk. I'm fairly sure the critter has been repainted at least once.... Fenders to bed sides, and step plates to fenders and bed sides The original stuff...

Stepside Fender to Bed Seam Sealant

I'm getting my 84 C10 Stepside ready to head to the body shop. I have removed the rear fenders and steps. What seam sealant should I use when re-assembling? As this will be applied after painting, how noticeable will it be? What is the common practice?

Tilt vs. Non Tilt Ignition Switch Wiring

OK. I twisted the plugs around and reconnected. Cranks and runs just fine! Thanks, y'all..... But....I have found that the steering itself is a bit off....in order to go right, I have to make 3 lefts......

Tilt vs. Non Tilt Ignition Switch Wiring
