So water IS flowing through the core all the time, regardless of where the heat control is set? Oh well, all I know is the intake to WP bypass solved my problem. And I’m going to do it on my Vette just in case.

OK, now I see. That valve must be behind the firewall on our trucks? I just assumed the coolant always circulated, even if HVAC wasn't on heat. Guess that explains it......

Thanks. I understand what you're saying but some on the net say just the act of the coolant flowing through the heater core is enough circulation to get that hot water out of the heads. Definitely not true in my case. And for my Corvette, I don't even think I'm getting that circulation...

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

I had a Tonka truck with this paint job when I was a kid! And it was an early square, too! https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/d/1973-chevy-truck-4wheel-drive/6707695171.html

Got my bypass put together tonight and it seems to solve the problem. Let it idle for a while and then took it on a test drive - cylinder head coolant temp never went above 190. Before I just had to let it idle for a few minutes and gauge would be well over 210 and still climbing before I shut...

    Dual Battery Isolator Wiring

@kickdeez: sorry you probably didn’t get much out of my two posts above - I saw that you already posted on my dual batt thread back in august!

    Dual Battery Isolator Wiring

So my ‘91 burb has a dual batt setup that is factory “style”. I say style because i took all the parts and wiring from my ‘90 burb parts rig and my install may not be perfectly factory. The wiring on the factory setup is super simple. All it is is a big relay mounted on DS fender well...

Thanks a lot for the pics and great info. Yeah, your last pic is pretty much where I'm going. Only difference is I'll probably use the port on the top of the manifold (you show a black plug in yours) since my ECM temp sensor is in the front position. Or I may switch them around, whichever has...

Thanks much for this info - really helps. I was having the same frustration as you - so many different accounts on the internet of what to do and what worked and what didn't. All I know is I have a heater bypass and my dash temp gauge is still showing hot and that's with two different head...

Cool, thanks for refreshing my memory - when I put vortecs on my 76 vette years ago I think I looked into this but it’s never been a problem (that I know of). But the block is original so I’m thinking it has the internal bypass. I guess maybe I’ll consider drilling the t-stat but some other...

Yeah, the starter is what I'm afraid of. It's a high torque unit from an early 70s truck, cast iron nose. I rebuilt it with new drive gear and brushes, but there definitely could be an intermittent problem. I have a more modern unit with aluminum nose and enough parts to rebuild it as well -...

Working through some issues still, besides the tune. Some solved, some still lingering. 1. Leaking coolant at thermostat housing - SOLVED, upper rad hose clamp was just a little loose. 2. Binding accelerator cable- SOLVED, accel cable was hooked to the cruise control post on the throttle...

Maybe, but every time I've talked to him about fuel pressure he insists that stock pressure is sufficient for what I'm doing. I've been looking at my data logs and I'm actually on the rich side by quite a bit, but I haven't gotten anywhere close to WOT. I talked to him on the phone yesterday...

How to switch to roller cam?

If you're swapping engines another option is to start with an 87-95 TBI SBC. The truck engines didn't have rollers (but the cars like Caprice did) but the majority if not all were prepped to accommodate rollers, i.e. the holes are drilled and tapped for the spider plate and the cam retainer...

Aluminum Wheels for 8 Lug Hubs

I'm in a similar boat. I have the later model steelies (you see them on base models and delivery vans and such) but the PO painted them black and it wasn't a great paint job. Been thinking about some old school aluminum - centerline style with small holes or the directional triangles. But...

    Why is This Blue?

I'd second that. The last week or so I've been looking on ebay for the regular, non-diesel hood ornament and and seems like it'll take at least $50 to get a good one. I saw a decent one for $29ish buy it now a couple days ago - kicking myself for not jumping on it right away cause next time I...

Got her on the road this weekend! Running good, driven less than 10 miles, but no driveability issues so far. Working on data logging so I can get the tune going. I'm working out a deal with Dave W of Old School EFI. I'll do my own data logging and burn the chip (I bought a Moates Burn 2 and...

Thanks, I might try that - seems like a good spring to use if I go adjustable. One other question for you, since I think you have a similar setup.....my throttle cable seems too long. It has to loop up by the firewall before it connects to the throttle lever and I think it's causing it to...
