    4l80e leaking and draining

New pan came yesterday, excited that it looks truly NOS, made in America. Seems like it was shrink wrapped and sat on a shelf since ‘95

    1991 v2500 rear driveshaft length

I’ve got what you’ve got and I’ll try and remember tonight to measure. But it’s in the vehicle. I think yours is stock though - it sounds like what mine looks like with about 1/2” to 1” of shine.

    4l80e leaking and draining

Well it's kind of too late since I already bought a AC Delco gasket for $30+ but I haven't installed yet. I'm waiting for a NOS pan from eBay that I thought was supposed to arrive today. Are the lube lockers worth it over the OEM Delco? I googled and they look pretty good - I would have gone...

    4l80e leaking and draining

Yeah, I feel dumb after my last post. There was a filter seal in the box - it was buried under the flimsy gasket that I won't use and hadn't taken out of the box yet. Seal even has the metal ring around it like the last one. Thanks.

    Brand new quadrajet untunable!

Check out Cliff's High Performance. I'd call him up and order a rebuild kit from him. His are set up for ethanol fuels and they should be able to help you out on metering rods and jet sizes, probably right over the phone. I'd order his Q-jet book, too. I've rebuilt two Q-jets in my life...

Fair price for 1987 TBI engine?

I got $500 from the one from my ‘91 v2500 (4-bolt). Unknown rebuild history. I advertised it as running in the truck but when the guy came and looked at I couldn’t get it started - flex plate had finally given up. The guy was a mechanic and knew exactly what was going on and he still agreed on...

    4l80e leaking and draining

Yep, crawled under there tonight and it looks like that spring is missing from the park pawl assembly. Just going to find one close in length and spring constant and put it in there. Thanks.

    4l80e leaking and draining

Thanks. I took a look at mine and it's almost exactly the same as the one in the ebay listing I posted earlier. Some of those showing up on Rock Auto for later trucks show a ridge that I'd be worried would conflict with the filter. I think I'm going to buy the ebay one, seems like a fair...

    np 241 tranfercase

Man, I parted out a '90 Burb a couple years ago - listed the 241 on CL with a bunch of other stuff and a dude from New Mexico ended up contacting me for it. I thought it was a scam and was pretty skeptical but he said he was having a really hard time finding one down there. He paid me thru...

    4l80e leaking and draining

Because of this I've been thinking about a new pan, but not sure that's feasible? After stopping at 2 parts stores today, one being Napa, and scrounging around on Rock Auto - seems like the OEM steel kind aren't available anymore? I'm guessing the pan design changed somewhere along the way...

    Found a np 205 at pick-n-pull

Learn something new every day - I always thought that one stick was high/low and the other was 4/2. So your comment about front wheel drive confused me until I looked it up. One stick is front, the other back, and there’s high/low/neutral for both. That is pretty cool! I do wanna do that...

    Found a np 205 at pick-n-pull

It’s a 4L80e/241. AFAIK the only rigs that came with 205 from that era were the V3500 crews.

    4l80e leaking and draining

Thanks guys. Good info on both. I'll be checking the park pawl spring and try to figure out the best seal. I may give the Delco gasket one more shot.....

    4l80e leaking and draining

Awesome thanks. I’ll take a look at that park return spring. Seems like an easy fix if that’s it. So on the pan, you use gray rtv only? No gasket? I always hear that those rigid oem gaskets are the best, but this is my second now so not sure about that. I know for sure I won’t use the...

    Found a np 205 at pick-n-pull

Damn.. y'all are going to make me feel guilty. I'd love to go get that thing but I don't think it's going to happen. thinking of the logistics required to get that heavy-ass cast iron 205 out from under that truck in the rocky salvage yard gives me the shivers. Fall is just about the busiest...

    4l80e leaking and draining

Cool, wasn't sure if the not-running level was above top of pan or not. Good to know that it's supposed to be. Seems weird that the gasket would fail all at once like that. It leaked when I first put fluid in after I got the engine running, but then after I started driving it and got fluid...

    4l80e leaking and draining

I noticed a lot of fluid on the floor about a week ago, haven’t driven it since because of that. Kept leaking the whole time and noticed it was dripping off the the back of the pan gasket. Last night I finally got to draining the pan (it has an aftermarket plug), but I didn’t drop the pan...

    Found a np 205 at pick-n-pull

was at the yard today looking for some TBI parts and saw an 70s or early 80s ( a lot of stuff was missing - couldn’t tell) 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4 square. Crawled underneath and saw a th400/205 combo. Meant to get a quote on the 205 when I was paying but forgot and they were wanting to close up...

    four headlight truck?????low/high beams

Do you need to use a diode? I've had mine wired for years with just using a relay in between lows and highs - when highs are on, relay is triggered to feed the lows. When just the lows are on, relay acts as just an open switch. It's worked well for a couple of years, no diodes to mess with...

Homemade TBI adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Yeah, I had to abandon the idea of in-place adjustability. I had already taken out the thumb screw and replaced with an allen head screw, but the problem was it was too long and I didn't know it was running in to the rigid vacuum port right underneath there. It completely closed off the...

    350 water temperature issue

You might want to check out my build thread, starting at post #207. With vortec heads I ended up having to put a bypass from my intake to the water pump. I don't think this is your issue, since you say it's still a problem even with the thermostat out, but thought I'd throw it out there...

Homemade TBI adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Bummer, I was a little worried there'd be some sort of conflict like that, but some of the aftermarket options use a similar design so I thought I'd be OK. But I just googled it and there are definitely others that use an allen head screw instead. Well, I'll give it a shot with the way I have...

Homemade TBI adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Thought I'd share my take on the adjustable FPR for the TBI crowd. You can buy one online that replaces the factory regulator, but they're like $70. There's also lots of variants of the homemade style online, and I'm sure someone has already done what I've done, but the writeup many refer to...

    383 Vortec/TBI Build Thread

New exhaust! Custom y-pipe with o2 bungs in both sides in case I ever decide to add wideband (he didn’t quite understand what I wanted - just wanted one second bung after the banks come together, not one on each bank, but that’s ok not sure I’m ever going to go the wide band route anyway.). I...
