Please Help me save some paint. Wax coating, what to use,etc

I’m cringing posting this because I talk way too much about Vice Grip Garage- but he does have Shine Juice for this (like Poppy’s Patina) and also has some nicer more permanent patina protector products that are more expensive but you can choose your level of shine from matte, satin or gloss...

Just want to make shure im reinstalling new control arms correctly.

If you’re looking for new stock lower control arms, last time I looked, LMC had the license for them and that’s the only place you’ll find them. Upper control arms are easy to find. It’s one reason I went with CPP lower control arms.

    Chevy 305 heads

Cool find. Would those have been off of something like a mid-late 80s Iroc-Z or something like that?

Keep us posted. Your truck has a solid build so might not be so damning. Hey, where’s that canopy? Looks good without it too of course.

Thanks Craig! Taking the Family to Disneyland this weekend and working until then- I’ll get back after this topic soon. I’m definitely going to check out that website!

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

@bucket in re-reading your post, that makes sense and I’d bet there were some 4-bolt 327s. And since they used that same block (likely) for the DZ302, it’s likely that they were 4-bolt too for that performance application.

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Good question- block says mid 70s. But it is a four bolt main, saw it myself when I changed the pan gasket. I’m not sure if they ever made a 4-bolt 327.

    Hooker small block manifolds

@bucket I’ve never seen this on a GM vehicle, but in all my years of working on VWs they were extremely common and reliable. And they always came off easily too.

What have you done to your square lately??

Spent some time doing compression test on the cylinders, all turned out good 170-182. But left for a cruise to my buddy’s house and didn’t make it out of the neighborhood before I really it wouldn’t shift out of first. Sure enough, vacuum hose came off the modulator. Backed it up with some...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Yep, I hear ya. The true typical “budget” option would be vortec heads, but then by the time I got them machined for bigger lift, better springs, new intake manifold etc, there goes the “budget “ option. There’s lots of cheap junk aluminum heads out there that are Fleabay specials but I would...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

@Rickf Part of the reason of taking off the valve springs today was the hope that a machine shop could measure the spring pressure to tell me if they’re stock or not- he said he couldn’t because he couldn’t tell what the installed height was supposed to be. He recommended just getting a set of...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

They have a more budget line (I saw your suggestion as well) for 625$ a head without the bells and whistles. The only thing I’d have to do is change the springs since they’re made for roller lifters.

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Compression test done. Pretty good results- all are north of 170 with the highest being 182.

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Oh yeah, I’m aware of the different configurations. It’s entirely unlikely that someone would spend all the dough to convert it from a 350 to a 327 from a generic mid 70s 350 truck block. My money is on this guy was sold a “327/350hp” and someone put a set of camel hump heads on a 350 to give...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

But more to your point- if they start looking pretty suspect, I have no problem dipping into my savings and getting a set of budget line AFR heads for it. One thing I’m going to do is when I have the rockers off, put a straight edge along the top of the valves and see if they’re pretty even- if...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

That’s a wonderful question. I bought the truck with a rebuilt 327/350hp just put in it with nothing hooked up. Except it’s not a 327, block says 350. So I asked the guy I bought it from about that and he came clean that he didn’t rebuild it, that it was purchased already rebuilt. So at this...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

I found some of the Pioneer valve seals OS-450 that @Ricko1966 suggested on eBay in the stock size for cheap, they’re getting harder to come by so I ordered them up for 17 bucks and free shipping. I figured if they’re the wrong size, I’m out less than the cost of 5 gallons of gas. They kind of...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

That’s a good idea. I like that better than a flimsy rope. On second glance, those are just damper springs, I don’t think they’re true dual. Do stock heads usually come with damper springs? I’ve never looked closely, honestly. Lashed lots of valves, never looked close.

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Well @Ricko1966 I tried to get a camera in there to see if I could see any hint of a seal but the only thing I accomplished was verifying that I had dual springs. I’m assuming those would not be stock. I’m planning on getting a valve spring compressor (I already have an air compressor fitting...
