    Trailering your square body

Have hauled my K30 twice in the past couple weeks on a tandem trailer. It was under power loading both trips. Engine forward. You can take a quick measurement of the hitch height unloaded and loaded to give yourself an idea of what your tongue weight is.

K30 8 stud (lug) Wheel PCD & alternative wheels

If buying new rims anyways, you may want to look at going larger than the 16". It will open up more options for tyres since you are looking at them down the road anyways.

1987 SBC 350 TBI long block build question

If you can dry fit (without gasket) the pan and it contacts the block without stud interference, I would not worry about it. The holes in the pan's windage tray are likely there for that reason. Not all pan designs have them. The trays on those are mounted separately on the studs.

1987 SBC 350 TBI long block build question

Some applications (like marine) use a separate windage tray for their oil pans. For those, it fastens to those studs. Not sure if they will fit with your pan. You will have to check it's clearance with a dry fit.

    TH400 Temp Sensor Location

Makes sense @Ricko1966. The serpentine set up on my truck does have a clutch fan on it. Will be interesting to see what the trans fluid temp returns at from the 4 core rad up here in the north. It's a big reason for me wanting to monitor it before adding anything additional. Seems like the norm...

    TH400 Temp Sensor Location

Thanks @dragstews! Looks like a nice set up you have there. I am thinking that monitoring the trans operating temp is more important for me than what the outlet temp is at this time. It is currently only plumbed to the new 4 core radiator for cooling. Hoping that knowing where it is now while...

    TH400 Temp Sensor Location

Have the truck mobile again after sitting since 2005. The last fluid to replace in it, is the transmission. Wanted to wait until after all was circulated good and the new radiator installed. It sounds like the consensus for best location for a transmission temp sensor is in the side of sump pan...

diagnosing mystery rattle/ flex plate clearance

I just went through this a couple months ago with a '97 Vortec in front of a T400 in my '86 CUCV. It was relatively fresh in my head. I went with a 168 tooth TCI (HD) flexplate and ARP mounting screws.

diagnosing mystery rattle/ flex plate clearance

Someone will chime in and correct me if I am wrong here, but it is my understanding that it is your starter that dictates which tooth count you go with. The diameters are the same with both, which effects the clearance you are concerned with. If the starter has a staggered bolt pattern you want...

diagnosing mystery rattle/ flex plate clearance

Does the gap change with the engine barred over in different positions? That could indicate there is a runout problem with the crankshaft. I don't believe the overall diameter of the flexplates really changed if that is your concern. There was differences with them, with 1 and 2 piece rear seal...

diagnosing mystery rattle/ flex plate clearance

If you know the flexplate is warped, questioning clearance to t/c or anything else, would be moot for me. What ignition system does it have? I ask because some will adjust timing to try to smoothen out the idle. For those, you could lock them in base timing mode to eliminate it from contributing...

Wiper washer motor replacement. Who you buying from?

I got lucky finding an '84 model (w/ built in pump) at one of our local mom and pop shops a couple weeks ago. Sorry, not going to help you, but was a bit surprising for both of us that it was in stock. Small town and only a handful of squares left in it. The box was really dusty, but the...

    hei distributor

A distributor is not something I would pinch money on. Losing spark is one thing, but a failure under the manifold can get costly real quick. Have you looked at their reviews?

    edelbrock avs2 650

Interesting theory and makes sense, but doesn't the mechanical pump have a check valve on it's outlet? Just curious.. I am getting the same characteristics with my Edelbrocks whether fed with a mechanical or electric vane.

    edelbrock avs2 650

Have run 3 and currently own 2 of the 600 Edelbrock marine versions on 5.7's with dual plane manifolds. They were/are similar to what you describe. They don't require the bump up for choke though as they use a fixed throttle. Hot or cold, they get 2, 1/2 throttle shots and are started at about...

    Overheating? Bad temp sensor reading?

Just a follow up. The cluster I have is of the correct vintage along with the AC Delco sensor purchased. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ADO-213-4585 Gauge and circuit confirmed to be functioning correctly with a few of the resistors (67,80 and 99 ohm) I had in my collection. Sensor also...

    Overheating? Bad temp sensor reading?

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Replaced the cluster in my truck with one from an unknown year. It was a bare cab at a salvage yard. The gauge will not noticeably climb with the '86 sender (@150 F) but will start to peg if momentarily grounded. The '74-'78 would make sense. Time to pick...

Question on where to get a 6.2 fuel line feeding the lift pump?

That was a real common combo with CUCV's. I bet someone at https://www.steelsoldiers.com/ could help if nobody does here.

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

The FOB thing is kind of what I had leaned toward when rewiring my truck and will likely add down the road in parallel to the ground cutout toggle for the start and FP relays. Lots of cheap looking offshore options out there. Figured a guy would want an override option if it ever did quit.

    Fuel sending unit

The only difference is likely to do with the ports. Size or possibly number. The sender itself has the same resistance range. I just swapped over to gas from a diesel that had been in storage since 2005. I also switched the gauges as well since I had both and didn't want "Diesel Fuel Only" on...

    83 K20 GEAR RATIO

I have the 4.56 gears in mine. It is my understanding the carrier also requires changing if going to 3.73's. Something to include in your thoughts if you haven't.

    Oil dripping around starter

A fresh engine is always nice, but it will likely take a fair bit more time for a new engine swap than a pan and rear seal replacement. It would depend how complete your new engine is. You may want to check into that if it is a concern for you and wasn't included in the 5k price you were given.

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Hmm. It's probably been 30 years since I have been into an auto diff and only kind of remember playing with side shims. I do remember struggling with getting the crush sleeve to start to crush though. Every diff since, including the one I am currently building for a 45T Volvo rock truck, have...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Agree with @Blue Ox. You will want to check the backlash before disassembly so it can be put back to the same if reusing the ring and pinion to match the wear pattern. A mag base and dial indicator is relatively inexpensive and will be a handy tool to have in the box down the road.
