Hmm, that’s a good question. I wish I knew what all they share. Yours talks to you or no? They both should have the same transmission, but that’s too big. That one’s a 3.8, right? What color is the interior?

    Show your daily driver

I would classify two as dailies: My ‘90 Olds really gets taken to the cleaners. I take it to work, and I usually put about 120 miles a day, which I’m sitting at just over 209K. It’s a 3.1/440-T4. I’m about six years pre-Dex, and the intake gasket design is supposed to be better one. Either way...

    Garage Cleanout

Ugh, I want that A833 and t-case. Bad. I hate to be the little bitch that couldn’t, but do you know anyone who comes down southward who’s trustworthy that could mediate such a transaction? Also, that console comment went grossly unappreciated. Maybe one day I can just come get it.

    Spark Plug Question

Oh, cool. Mine’s a 1949 just outfitted with the regular Woods belly mower. It’s been upgraded to a Delco-Remy 10si alternator, points, and 12V. There’s a 1959 with it that my dad bought that was once a nice tractor, but it was mutiliated by him and my brother. Just another clear cut case of some...

    Is a 85 700r4 ok?

Jeez. I had more miles than you for a little bit; you must have just passed me, but I didn’t drive the old gal much this summer, but it was all I drove this past winter and spring. I guess it goes like that when you have multiple rides. So you just checked the amperage on the switch, and it was...

    Is a 85 700r4 ok?

No, not at all. Shifts perfectly, doesn’t leak, fluid maintains normal color. The torque converter lockup can be screwy when there are drastic temperature changes, usually in the spring and later fall, but I don’t count that. @CorvairGeek is in the same boat. He’s probably in the mid-low 270s...

1985 k20 Long bed. I need a Trans crossmember. Repop? used? Who has one??

Check out Ray and Samantha’s. If they don’t have it, reach out, and he can try to get it for you. https://www.ebay.com/str/classicchevygmcparts

    What do y’all think?

I like both. Hope this helps. Personally, I’d let it boil down to the truck’s role. If you find yourself in positions where the lift and winch are needed, and you don’t have them, switch back. If it’s not operating on that serious level of utility, leave it as is.

    yep - finally got one! 87 V10 - long bed - 350 - auto

Definitely check universal joints and trans mount, but also don’t misconstrue a trans clunk for rear end rotational slop and pinion slop. I’d look out for that, listen for an audible ‘woo’ sound coming from the rear while coasting in like third or OD, see if there’s back/forth and side/side play...

    Is a 85 700r4 ok?

I don’t know about towing and spending a long time behind more than stock motors but my daily driver, right now more of a long haul driver, uses a 700R4 that would have come off the line in around October 1985. I drove a thousand miles in it this past weekend, and I’m at 288K with no rebuild...

    Starter Questions

Appears to be a settled issue, but I just take the heavy direct drive Delco-Remy starters that came on these old V8s to a local guy to rebuild when they go out. Works well for me!

Lets give the 6.2 diesel some love

Compared to what was available at the time, I tend to agree. The 6 bbt Cummins has a pretty rough sound, especially when running straight pipes (yuck), and the 6.9/7.3 IDI are less rough IMO but not as smooth as the 6.2. The 7.3 PSD is technically a contemporary of the 6.5, not the 6.2, so I...

Aftermarket Ring and Pinion/Diff. Who do you buy and why

I’ve had good luck so far with Motive Gear ring/pinion/master rebuild and will continue using that until it burns me, but rear end shops I’ve talked to also say that’s the brand they use. Shop around for the best price, but National Drivetrain’s eBay store seems to be that depending on your...

1986 C10- Is it reliable enough for a daily driver?

Agreed. Something used fairly often on the highway but not beaten to hell is a safe bet. A vehicle that has sat will be hit or miss. My Jimmy was only driven a handful of miles between 2000 and when I got it in ‘15, and while it wasn’t horrible, that gave way to a lot of bugs that I don’t see on...

Hello! A huge fan of 73 to 80

Looks like a 73-80 cluster with an aftermarket tach, and that fuel gauge looks like something out of an Elco or something, but the font is very 80s GM.

1986 C10- Is it reliable enough for a daily driver?

A few thoughts from me. Price was way too high. I grew up with all the antiquated tech in them, which is a big part of the romance anyway, so all the fancy schmancy does nothing for me whatsoever except tell me to run faster. I didn’t do the work, and unless you know the person who did (or know...

1987 TBI intake and heads on early style block

It’s certainly an option if you’re swapping in an older short block but keeping TBI. If you’re doing carb for whatever reason, I think almost any older casting will be better than the swirl ports

1st Annual N. Texas Square Body Forum Truck Rally

I’d like to go, it seems feasible. It’s about 475 miles, seven hours to get there. I’d plan to go in the ole Jimbo, of course. It looks like I finally got all the ignition bugs sorted out, and she’s doing better these days than she has in the past two years.

Any of ya'll rebuild your own water pumps?

I would definitely look into this in situations where the OEM impeller is cast iron, the aftermarket is some kind of stamped aluminum or something, and a new one with a cast impeller is just ridiculously priced. I just came across this with a 3.1 water pump. The impeller on the old one had like...

    Questions on TBI

I think you should have met it in the middle and installed the corresponding 94-95 454 fuel pump. I believe it runs at 30 psi.
