Thanks Shorty81 for the offer, and thanks everyone for the tips. I tried the gentle/careful clamping with a giant C clamp, and it seems to be working! It's held up so far, so I'll keep my fingers crossed, and move on to the next item on the list. Thanks, -

Good stuff...I'll just add I used to be into old Air-Cooled VWs, so I have come across all kinds of things back in the day! Always the first thing I do with a new vehicle is clean front to back, never want to get in any trouble for some other idiot's "stuff" -

SNOOTS, thanks for the pic, but that's a different profile from mine. So to update, I went by the local dealer, they had one of the odd shaped clips as in post #4, but they didn't fit. A very helpful parts guy and I spent about a half an hour looking, wiggling, trying, etc, and no dice with... -

I pulled the cylinder out so I could see it better and that does indeed look like it. I will run by the dealer and see if they have one in stock, otherwise I found them on Ebay with a week or so shipping. Would like to have it sooner but we'll see...thanks! -
6.2 Factory Cruise Control removal?
Hi. My 87 came with factory cruise control. PO said it used to work but now doesn't. I don't use cruise even in new cars, so I figure I'll just remove the whole assembly. Hi. For the lock on the barn doors on my '87 Suburban, the key just spins back and forth. So I pulled off the trim, and found that the latch piece that flips the lock rods up and down has fallen off the cylinder shaft (if that makes sense). However, I can't see how it attaches to keep it in... -
LED Dome Lights?
Howdy. When the PO removed the headliner in my 87 Suburban, apparently they yanked it out and so both interior dome light fixtures had the plastic splintered. Ironically, the lights still work, just bulbs and wires hanging down. Since i have to get new fixtures anyway, I was just wondering if...- NCBurb
