What have you done to your square lately??

Finally got new trim pieces put on today after I washed/polished it up. I sure wish my truck looked as good up close as it does in 6-8 foot away pictures.

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

Hit the nail on the head. I tore that thing completely down today and found that second part in c10's picture was scared up like like crazy. Ended up just chucking it all in the trash. I'll edit my post above to not spread bad information.

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

I was thinking that too and they are very small and tight. Not like any spot weld I've ever done. I do remember it working when I first plugged it into this engine. I do hate assuming the worst of that garage. I'll just go with, it broke and its fixed and working now. I suppose it could be...

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

@Matt69olds thanks for that awesome link! That explained a lot. You sir are a fountain of knowledge. :favorites13: @75gmck25 and @C10MixMaster I am happy to say that I have the new distributor in, and dialed in quite well. At idle with the vac advanced plugged off I'm seeing 18°, then 39-40 at...

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

New Dizzy should be arriving this Friday. I ended up going down the timing rabbit hole when I couldn't sleep last night and found this "How To Set Timing". 1. Plug vac. adv. line. 2. Hook up timing light 3. Read the timing while you increase RPM's until it stops advancing...record that RPM. 4...

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

@C10MixMaster That's exactly what I'm looking for. By the looks of the internals on this one I would not be surprised if those shafts are seized up in some fashion. I did try twisting things in there and got nothing to move free. @75gmck25 I did manage to snag the part number of the...

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

@C10MixMaster and @75gmck25 I got some solid numbers on this thing. Numbers on the balancer are accurate. Idle 700rpm with vac adv plugged = 30° 2500 and 3000 rpm with vac adv plugged = 30° Idle with vac adv plugged into the manifold port = 39° By these numbers I'm thinking weights and springs...

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

Big thanks to you both! I did leave my initial post a little vague mainly because I don't know what specific questions to ask, all of this has me second guessing my wrenching/tinkering abilities and knowledge. The engine is not stock, I built it and installed it October 2019. I'm not sure if...

Some timing questions (experiencing some spark knock)

I'm feeling pretty dumb here so please forgive my ignorance. A short recent backstory: I just had my 700r4 rebuilt again. The builder wired my Torque converter lockup to my 4th gear solenoid. So whenever the truck is in 4th gear, the converter locks up. It would also appear as though he...

    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

Falken and Whiskey here. The ATW3 have been a great tire.

    Running Rich?

@Bruce Wingate Sounds like your harmonic balancer either spun (happens) or someone put on a different and wrong balancer (also happens) The idle adjustment screws not having any effect is a red flag to something not being right with the carb. Too much fuel pressure is where I'd start looking.

Question on tire size for an '85 K20...

Thanks. They measure out to be 32.8 overall so a 33 just wider then a 285/75r16. When I bought these, I was trying to get the narrower 285s but the tire shop had these on hand and the 285s would have been a 4-8 week wait. Side note: these Falken Wildpeak ATW3 have been a fantastic tire.

Question on tire size for an '85 K20...

Thank you sir! Of course it was just washed in that picture. Almost sold it a few months back TBH. Glad I didn't. But now the trans is making some awful noise (I've been expecting it to) so that's going to need addressed this month or next.

Question on tire size for an '85 K20...

@7900_Blazer My 83 k20 has 305/70 r16s and is on a 2" lift. The front springs are either aftermarket or have been re-arched by one of the previous owners. I also have ORD's HD shackles up front which give it 3/4 inch more up front. I have not yet had any rubbing even offroad. But I'm sure its...

Problems with lift kit (ORD) install...

Upon another look at these pictures.. That passenger side sway bar bushing was not replaced... to me that screams they never bolted on the new bracket. I'm also going to side with bucket about that rear upper shock mount being a pre existing problem. That should have been seen. As for the...

Problems with lift kit (ORD) install...

@Giant Rock they also didn't shave your U bolts down.... looks like the sway bar bracket didn't get tightened at all, nor did it get its keeper pin and worked its way loose. Or it was never installed. The sleeves for sure need to be in those bushing on the bottom shock mounts. And I'd say it...

    Cracked windshield

Just my experiance: I had mine replaced by a safelight location or maybe speedy glass... I don't remember. But they used the incorrect gasket. They glued the gasket to the truck and then glued the windshield to the gasket (how newer vehicles are done I guess). It basically rained inside the cab...

Carb sprays gas into the air?

Just looked through my stash of random parts and couldn't locate the stock carb bits. I must have tossed them out during the move. It is a pretty simple system on those and honestly I'd be suprised if it's broken. You can pull the three retaining screws off that choke cap and inspect the spring...

Carb sprays gas into the air?

@jfrancom101 it sure looks like it'll fit the bill. Yours already has the rod and other bits so you should be good to go with that kit. Grit dog also makes a good point about being able to go back to the manual choke but you'd have to convert that carb back to that. Probably need to get a kit...

Carb sprays gas into the air?

Isn't OP using an edelbrock? If so this is the kit you'll want to rebuild the electric choke. If OP is using the other carb disregard this post. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1478 Side note: The edelbrock 1405 normally comes with a manual choke the 1406 has the electric choke, so the...

What have you done to your square lately??

@Goldie Driver that looks correct. However, I've never had much luck with buying those kind of hard parts from Amazon (always seem to get cheap parts) Summit lists a few options that "fit" our trucks but they also list the threads so I'd try getting one from them with the correct threads. For...

Good luck! If you can, let me know what you find out. I'll be repainting some spots on my floor boards this summer.

how to mount an amplifier behind behind front seat

In my searches for an angled truck box, I ran across this site. They claim to have a custom made box to fit our trucks along with amp mounting. Might be worth a look if anyone is interested. Definitely takes up the space behind the seat which I'm not a huge fan of, and from the picture, it sure...

What have you done to your square lately??

@Grit dog for our lighter blue (assuming yours is also 21 LT blue met, like mine is) it should be this color of can. TBH I have not verified this personally. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00407V3KA/

how to mount an amplifier behind behind front seat

The sub is a 12" shallow kicker personally I'm not a fan of the shallow square box. I just placed an order for an angled truck box that I'm going to try out. I'm really hoping to reclaim some rearward seat movement but we'll see how it goes. Here is the other side. Don't mind the junk.
