    combo prop valve leaking hmm

I made this post yesterday. What do you know, This morning, helping out a friend, and his project at is up on the lift. There is a puddle under the car. Yup, aftermarket combination valve leaking. Another one to add to the failed list. The valve came in an aftermarket kit from a bigger company.

    combo prop valve leaking hmm

Be careful of the new valves. I have replaced 2 or 3 of the aftermarket ones because of the same thing (too common of a problem). They all look like they are from the same supplier. The best one I found was from Wilwood. A little more money, but American made and tested per their site.

Just to making sure this is gonna work!!!!

No, I was already going into the transmission, so I put in the 10 spline shaft and older adapter. It was just going to be easier and cheaper. I was a bit younger and and money was quite a bit more tight.

Just to making sure this is gonna work!!!!

Watch for the adapter. Even though both are round and for the 465, I believe the 208 adapter does not have the shifter mounting boss cast into it that the 205 adapter does. Mine did not.

    What do we have here?

I may be wrong, BUT you may not need the dually bed. C&C rear axles are narrower which means a regular bed may work with the wheel wells massaged a little.

    Rough low acceleration

Did you replace those parts for the hell of it, or was it done because of the smog issue? One thing that sticks out to me is the EGR. There are some “universal” ones that seem to be crap! It will give you poor part throttle response and it will stumble. Easy check for it - disconnect and plug...

    Master Cylinder Replacement

What size are the rear brakes and what is the brake code? I do not believe there should be a problem, but they differentiate between 11 and 13 inch brakes.

    Rebuild or replacment TH400

I have never been into a th400. With that said, I have put them in. Honestly, I would go with replacement. 6 to 7 hours to pull, clean, rebuild, and put it in is not much time. R&R would be the most straightforward and possibility the easiest. You also do not know what hard parts you might...

    Combination valve rebuild kit?

I would not take it apart. If you are getting fluid out of each port, I would reuse it. IF you need a replacement, you might want to consider a junkyard unit or Wilwood. They make a valve similar looking to ours, and it goes for $95. I have done a few brake jobs that required the addition or...

Help! What gear ratio is this ring gear...see picture

That looks like a 3.07 ratio - 14 and 43 are stamped on it. Not good for 35’s. Probably going to want to look at 4.11’s or 4.56’s. 4.11’s would be cheaper, as there is no carrier change. And put up some truck pictures when you get a chance!

Advice 94, Z-71, 1/2 ton Rear Diff locker install

Honestly, heard good reviews about Eaton True Trac. I would not go back with a gov lock. I run a Detroit Locker and love it, but it can be a little quirky and tires tend to wear faster. We replaced plenty of gov locks when I worked in a shop. I like saving money, but I would not want to risk...

From 1985 owner’s manual, NP208, but should be the same for NP241.

Anyone know what these numbers mean on my diff cover?

Looks like it is off an 85-89 P300 UPS chassis with a 70HD. Thanks Billavista! Basically, it should fit most 60’s or 70’s.

In search of opinions on gear change.

The nice thing about 4.10s is you will not need a carrier change. As you already know, those should be about perfect for you! Really wake up that engine.

    Driveshaft help

May I suggest putting a 1350 yoke on the rear end instead? Plenty of yokes available and you can then use the conversion joint. Maybe money/time ahead!

https://www.sneveysoffroad.com/gm_14_bolt_ff_6_lug_conversion_kit You can do it...but it looks pricey! I would suggest sticking with the 8 lug set up.

    PTO for a 75 4 speed manual

Sorry, forgot to check this thread. So the pto was originally pass side rear output. I changed it to be driver side rear, but it is basically a matter of flipping shafts over. This has 2 gears, so it spins the same direction as the counter shaft.

    PTO for a 75 4 speed manual

I might have a PTO available. It was a passenger side mount, but I changed it over to driver side output. I put some new bearings and seals on it (if I can remember correctly). It can be swapped back over to passenger side easily.

    Transmission Options

Just food for thought - a lot of fleets used the straight 6’s. UPS was one of the biggest and used the 292s and Ford 300 6’s over the V8’s. They were well known torque engines and were reliable and relatively fuel efficient.

    Transmission Options

Throwing my BS opinion in here. Keep a 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree in there, BUT build up a 292 for it! If you are cruising it, then a torque engine is the way to go! Okay, and throw at least a turbo on there.....

Could two power steering pumps be mounted to driver side?

Physically you can, but it might be better to either get a pump specifically designed for that kind of set up or run an independent hydraulic pump controlled by an electric clutch for the plow. I could see problems occurring with a power steering pump riding against it’s pressure relief spring...

Mounting a heavy belt-driven air compressor

I know it was free, but a York might be more compact and reader to mount. I have mine on the driver side of the engine with a bracket I made, running off the power steering pump (3 groove pulley). The York also has a clutch and can be turned off.
