A decel valve has nothing to do with backfiring through the carb. It opens the throttle plate a little to let air flow into the engine and exhaust to burn the unburned fuel / rich mixture caused by the rapid throttle closure at higher rpms.

Like I said, it's part of the fuel evap system. It is filled with charcoal particles. I see these all the time while performing smog inspections here in California. If you remove it, you will fail the visual portion of the inspection. There is also a fuel vent hose that connects to...
It doesn't go all the way to the top of the air cleaner lid. It is glued to the air cleaner bottom and stops a couple inches short of the lid. It should not affect air flow or volume. Also, air flows through the charcoal particles. It is not a solid chunk that would block flow. This system...
It's part of your fuel evap system. It's filled with charcoal and absorbs fuel vapors when you are not running. If you look at the bottom of the air cleaner, there should also be a hose fitting to connect to the rest of your evap system. It works along with your charcoal canister. In...
I was looking for Ray and Samantha on Ebay but I couldn't find their listings. Is there a company name or link to their store? I'm looking to buy a spare tire setup for my 75 stepside.
I'm going through the votec cracked head issue now. I picked up an L31 Vortec that was running good and thought I would build it. When I took the heads to the machine shop, I found out they were both cracked. The machinist said about 9 out of 10 Vortecs he sees in his shop are cracked. I...
In California , it's in regulation that they they contact you for any increase from the original estimate. They have to document the phone call or conversation on the invoice along with the time and date. I would also file a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. They control their...
The articles I've read said to route the heater hose to the water pump instead of the radiator. I'm not sure why. Seems like it would not make any difference. I have the hose going from the heater core to my radiator. Maybe I'm just over thinking the whole thing.....LOL. I've also seen...
I'm building a 350 for my 75 Stepside. I've read and heard so many good things on the Vortec head and L31 that I started with that. I picked up an 880 engine core but when I took the 062 heads into the machine shop they were both cracked. I picked up a pair of Summit Racing Vortec heads for...
I have a 75 C10 Stepside and I'm changing the rear leaf springs. When I went online and purchased them from SD Springs, they only listed the 52" with a 4 leaf spring pack like I currently have. I "assumed" mine were 52" as all of the 56" had many more leafs. Okay, I admit I'm an idiot for not...
I'm not sure but the pins might be different for several years. I'm getting ready to do my complete cluster and when I go online and price the cluster backing plate, it appears there are wiring differences. LMC lists them as 73-75, 76-77, and 78-80. I know they will all "fit" but I "assumed"...
When I'm doing a head job, many customers do not want to wait for the turn around time. It can be 3 or 4 days for the machine shop to inspect and rebuild the heads. They would rather just exchange the heads and get back on the road the same or next day. I've never had any customers come back...
I put the mid length Hedman headers on my square and had issues with the plugs and wires too. I had to use the shorty plugs and go to the super thick Moroso under header plug wires. I was having trouble installing some of the plugs and found this pass thru socket set from Harbor Freight works...
I just did a 2" or 2 1/2" in the front on my 75 Stepside. They were Western Chassis springs. Western Chassis markets them as 2" drop but Summit Racing and other online vendors say it is 2 1/2". I measured it after I was done and it is closer to 2 1/2. Now to install the 4" drop springs in...
I love the BFG MT for both looks and off road capability. I've used them for years. We have the BFG AT tires on our SUV. It's mostly a street truck and they work great. The BFG tires used to have the thickest side wall and made them very stable. I believe it was 3 ply side walls. That's...
I may be going back to stock manifolds. I'll probably get them jet-hot coated prior to reinstalling them. We'll see how it goes. It's been a lot of work and money so far but I don't feel it was worth it.
