Help with sudden engine knocking and clanking

Update -- I took it to the trans shop who rebuilt my transmission. It was just the flexplate cover come loose and something there contacting the flywheel. Prob happened when I jumped in like a paratrooper to get at those #6 and #8 spark wires It's not FIXED -- they are moving to a new shop...

Help with sudden engine knocking and clanking

All, My 350 SBC (TH350C trans, just rebuilt 2 months ago) has a steady RPM-based tick/click that starts after about 30 seconds of startup/idle. Putting it in gear makes it worse, applying throttle it becomes a very loud horrible clank-clank -- but the sound immediately backs off when I coast...

1987 TBI tank in a 1985 with a carb? Will it work?

Did you install the '87 tanks? If so, what sending units did you use? I have a replacement '87 tank, and the sending unit that works for a carb, three ports, 0-90ohm signal, the float gets down to 1/2 fulll tank then stops, resting on the baffles, gauge stuck at 1/2 full. I haven't found one...

What have you done to your square lately??

Apparently Kia's are so easy to steal, this fact has driven the normally peaceful, law-abiding citizens of St. Louis to CRIME! CRIME! in St. Louis! OMG!? Why? Must be those darn Kias! St. Louis has actually tried to sue Kia Motors, Inc., for *causing* a crime wave in that shining city on a...

    New Member From Southern Illinois

Hi Jeremy, I originally hail from the 618, a place with so many oil refineries that our HS teams were the Oilers, and the next town over, the Shells. We grew up hating the constant smell of tar and the fact the sky glowed orange at night. I was 30 years old the first time I saw the Milky Way...

Ticking after shutting off engine, 350 sbc

All, After I recently did some work on my truck (detailed below), I am hearing a distinct loud ticking from the engine area after shutoff. It is about 1 tick/sec, and goes on for about 10 seconds maybe more. Occasionally in the past I would hear this, sometimes double-time 2/sec but never...

    New AC Delco water pump

Hi, I'm installing a new water pump on my '81 350 sbc engine. Why does the new AC Delco water pump have weep holes on both the top and bottom of the casting? Anybody else install one of these?

    All in the family

That white/mint is a sweet look and I've never seen it elsewhere. How does it feel to have a truck that is bright and bold not grey or black? Amazing interior, too. Yes, longbed is the only bed. Awesome! BRetty

Dumb down headlight relays for me.

The single best headlight accessory you can get is a .22 to keep in the truck and shoot out the lights of all the A$$HOLES driving with their brights AND fog lights on and aimed at a point 6' above the road. Like is this the jungle, pythons gonna drop from the trees? Are you jacklighting deer...

    Sticky thread for lowering C10s?

Some days I wonder how I ended up driving a 73 C10 low-rider. It can be a PITA. I mean, yeah, I have a real truck bed unlike the rolling cribs with a 5' cargo capacity... but I can't drive passengers if we have a job on site cuz she's a deathtap, CA has declared war on gasoline, etc.she's hard...

    Sticky thread for lowering C10s?

All the advice above is sound. I'll add a couple notes from three years aof driving a '73 10 that was lowered by the PO -- I recommend an aftermarket transmission crossmember that has the "bat-wing" design like above, so that you can route your exhaust more directly and don't end up with...

    Headers

it seems that headers are a total dark art. The only manufacturer I have ever seen tell you the ******* DIMENSIONS of their product is Sanderson. It's like headers are a secret, if you have to ask you will never know. With that out of the way, here is all I know: -- A guy on another forum...

What have you done to your square lately??

Aha! That is what the rattl-ey little flap/valve there is! I just discovered it when wrangling all my extra a/c and blower wiring. Good to know, thanks.

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

Ah, that's entirely possible. Tank is PO replacement, I never deciphered the upside-down yellow paint marker notes on it from the parts yard. Might also be why my filler neck is squished and kinda choked. I'll look for a sending unit for an 87. Thanks!

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

So I have found the problem I think. There's a vertical baffle in the tank right where the sender drops in. The float rests on it when level gets to ~half. this pic shows the black float and the ridge in the tank: There's no way to rotate the sender, there are locking tabs and slots. I...

What have you done to your square lately??

When I first got my truck, it had lots of electrical problems. Being naive, I thought it was the battery, so I bought a new one. (The problems were dirty wires and poor connection/terminations, which I finally fixed....) Being a doofus, I did not consider what physical size battery I needed...

What have you done to your square lately??

I finally took my crusty radiator in to the shop. Julio said he would clean and rod out all the crusty rust. Well, it's a lot better, but no way he took off the end caps and "rodded" it in <18hrs. And for this he charged me $300. Cheaper than a new one I guess, and back the next day. Now...

Thanks for the replies, I'm gonna take the sending unit out this aftn and check the travel on it.

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

All, My fuel gauge has been wonky since I got my 73 C10. (A 73 that actually has an 81 dash and engine/trans) It reads correctly above 5/8 of a tank up to full. Below 5/8, it just sticks at 5/8. I've run out of gas a few times, mostly because I was in denial about my gas mileage being...

Trying to ID this hose fitting

All, We bought some surplus aerospace hose assemblies that we used to make a prop for a commercial (an espresso machine that was "supercharged"). I'm thinking of cannibalizing the extra ones for my truck. It's great, barely used PTFE hose, steel braided and some nomex covered. I will need to...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks for this valuable advice. Info on PS pump particularly helpful. I just got my can of trans cooler flush from Summit, so don't have to track down inverted flare fittings to make my own rig. Unfortunately, ckeaning the reolacement rsdiotor I discovered a leak....I'll put up a thread...

I have a scary list of things I need to do on my 73/81 C10. I have today and the weekend off, nobody at the shop, just got paid so I can blow $$ on parts, but ... I am procrastinating b/c lack of knowledge, and confidence... I don't want to start a new thread for any/every question I can't...
